RE: Brake Controller -Cheap vs. Expensive

Yes, Look into the prodigy or the p3. Prodigy will run under $100 and the P3 about $140 Prodigy is sufficient but the P3 is pretty darn cool. check out etrailer.com

RE: Do you think a Tahoe can pull our 26 foot TT?

3500LBS does seem very light for a 26ft TT even without slides. I had a 23' hybrid that was "advertised" at 3800lbs dry. Get the TT weighed. Make sure you know what you are dealing with here. That said. If you had a 26' TT that weighed 3500lbs you should not have any problems with a 5.3L. Make sure you have a strong WD hitch capable of handling your gross max weight and a strong sway control system (you can kill two birds with one stone and get an equalizer or others similar to it.) If you have the appropriate hitch than get an aftermarket dual cam sway control system. You don't want to pull a 26' TT with a tahoe using a friction sway bar! I pulled my 23' hybrid with a 5.3 Silverado and it handled great. That was at 4500lbs loaded. We upgraded to a 26' TT that weighed considerably more so we had to jump up to a 3/4 ton.

RE: Do I need to chock my tires?

Oh, yes you do. One of these times you'll unhitch and the trailer will go for a ride by itself. Trust me on this one. Yup! Happened to me. It's a no-brainer now...CHOCK!!! Why not!! It's so fast and easy!! First thing to go down before you unhitch, last thing to come up once you're hitched again. I remember once when I was a kid a bunch of us were playing in an old pickup truck bed converted into a utility trailer. One to many of us walked to the back the of trailer lifting the tongue and the whole trailer rolled about 35 yards down a hill with us in it!! Great ride but nothing I'd want to happen again!!

Sat Dish setup....Man I suck at this!!

I have a Dish network 500 Dish Pro "PLUS" on my house running to a dual tuner receiver: The dish looks like this: http://www.freetoairdish.com/lnbs/dp_plus_lnb_big.jpg I recently got a Dish network 500 Dish "Pro". It's the previous model to the DP Plus and I have a single tuner receiver that came with it. I would like to use this dish/receiver in the trailer under my account. I know how to activate it but I need to figure out how to get it set up first. It looks like this: http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/images/DishPRO%20Twin.jpg I have one cable coming from the dish Pro Plus into the house. On the older Dish Pro there are two cables coming out of the end of the mount. One goes into the 110° and the other into the 119°. My main question is do I need a switch for this? something like this: http://www.satellitedishmontreal.com/store/images/sw-21.jpg If so, does it freaking matter what switch i get? I see these all over ebay and they all look the same but range from $4 to $30!! I get a different answer from every search I do on the internet. I see things that say if you hook up wrong you can blow it out, and that makes me nervous. What's the difference between the two. I looks like that extra LNB may just be to run in another sat if you choose to do so? On Edit- I see alot about using an SW21 (as seen above) and also alot of places that say to use an SW21X (as seen below). And now i'm also seeing some websites that have images that make it look like you don't need a switch at all and can run each coax to a different receiver. Am I correct in thinking that the two coax cables carry a different signal from a different sat and need to be combined at some point? http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Switches/JVI-35-SW21X.jpg I'm hoping that someone has this setup and can tell me how theirs is connected!!

RE: Satellite Dish Mounting Option

Nice idea but wouldn't work on my aluminum sided (corrugated) TT :( Les I was just wondering the same thing...but ya know, I bet it would stick to the sides or roof of our slideouts!! Glass handling tool at Amazon.com. It has a 360lb weight capacity

RE: Help selecting sway control

Go with the Dual cam! MUCH better than the friction bars. http://www.etrailer.com/mErchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/2/6/26000.jpg Etrailer has it for $165 It's not hard to put on. just takes an angle grinder and a hour or two. You need to move snap-up brackets. The chain should be vertical when in position. You can raise the propane platform with spacers and have you brackets under it. You will most likely need to do this with the dual cam setup anyway.

RE: How much would you pay for this truck?

Mine is very similar to that one...except, mine is: 2005 2WD 6.0L Bucket seats Power/heated Leather Ent. System in the back Mine had 35K miles on it when I bought it this spring for $16,000

RE: 8.1L MPG?

Well, I'm with Sport45. You'll lose a little, but not too much. Unloaded, highway miles (including Vail Pass) and I'll get 14.5-15 MPG. Around town I get around 11. Towing I get between 9 & 10. I did have a recent trip where I had a problem with my mass air flow sensor...mileage dropped to 6.5!!! Great drive train...as you've heard many times before...it will pass anything, except a gas station! Happy Towing! Glen Just out of curiosity, have you ever calculated what you get without the cap on the back? Looks like that thing does a pretty good deflecting some wind over the TT.

RE: How long does your Suburban furnace run off of 12V?

Luck would have it, you don't run the fridge off of 12V all weekend do you? I don't think mine would run 3-4 hours without running down to almost nothing. The fridge runs off of propane but uses a small amount about power as well.

Buying a used satellite receiver

I'm looking into getting a used Sat. and receiver to take with us when we are camping. We currently have Dish network. If I buy a used receiver, what is involved in getting it to work under my account? Thanks!

RE: First time camping with our 1 year old; any advice????

Hmm....We started camping with my son a few weeks after he was born...just once and then it was fall but we started right back up again in the spring at 8mos old. He did great. We used a pack-n-play. That may be a solution for you as well if it will fit in your van. Should stay warmer than the pop-up roof. If you are camping in place with elect. then just get a portable elect. heater with a thermostat. I don't think it would be a good idea to put a one year old in a sleeping bag....maybe it's just me but with all of the cords and the chance of getting wrapped up in the bag...just seems like a sad story on the news waiting to happen.

RE: Wheel Chocking

We had a BAD exp. with our first TT on our first trip about 6 years ago. We had the chocks but did not put them down first. It was a wet memorial day weekend and our site was on a hill sloped forward. We unhitched, had the tongue jack AND the stabs down when it rolled and slid the stabs off the boards driving them into the mud about 4 inches. We had to support the tongue and get it back on the truck so we could get it back in place. We were verrrrryyy lucky. We always chock now. First thing down, last thing up. We were camping for the 4th and saw a guy back in his 25' TT. He unhitched, PLACING THE POLE OF THE TONGUE JACK ON A LARGE SEMI-FLAT ROCK!! He NEVER chocked and he had no stabilizer jacks....oh and he had to families of friends that were visiting and all hanging out inside the TT.

RE: How long does your Suburban furnace run off of 12V?

We go mushroom camping every spring for mothers day. Using the battery for the Furnace, lights, fridge and water pump our single battery will get us through the weekend with the furnace running much of the night....55/60° at daytime 40° at night.

RE: Speedometer Problem

Common problem with the GM trucks around this time frame. Many of them have been recalled and can be fixed free of charge I believe. I got a letter in the mail regarding my 2004 silverado half ton back when I still had it. Do a quick search on the net. My current truck has an Tac issue. The tac will goo from 3000rpms when driving and then when I stop it will drop off past 0. When I speed back up it will never read past like 1500-2000rpms...After I shut the engine off and restart it's fine again.......BUT I LOVE MY CHEVY/GM TRUCKS:C

Old dish Sat. with newer receiver??

I'm hoping that some of you can offer some advice with the little bit of vague information that I have. Forgive me for my ignorance. While I consider myself to be a pretty smart guy (or ass as my wife would label me), I know nothing about Satellites. I have a Dish 500 on my house paired with a, single box/dual TV, DVR receiver. My wife's Aunt gave us a Dish net. satellite. When my wife brought it home I could tell by glancing at it, as I ran out the door to work, that it was an old model Dish. It only has the single "bulb" on the end of the arm where as most I see have two. (Is the second for local channels?) It also is not labeled as a DISH 500. Will this dish work with my current receiver? If not, I see on craigslist that a person is selling a dish 500 with a single box receiver for $15. What is involved in getting that receiver adding onto my account? Thanks for not laughing at me....... aloud at least.....:h

RE: Help - Need a hitching tutorial

Is he giving you the Weight Dist. Hitch as well or just the spring bars. It seems in most cases he would get you the whole unit but I could see a situation where he bought a new trailer and kept the hitch but had to upgrade his bars so he would include the old ones in the sale. It's hard to say anything for sure without known what kind of trailer we are talking about. Please post the specs of the TT. Most likely, to get by for now, you will need a Weight Dist. Hitch with spring bars and a brake controller. After you get the unit home you can investigate into the proper sway control for your rig.
