RE: Tv to run while driving minnie winnie...
i am def going with the inverter.... man this trip is gonna be sweet!!!!! 6 hour drive just got a whole lot better!!!! xbox360 and dvds make the time fly
Costco had a 1000W inverter for $40. If you are planning to use the xbox, you need a good inverter because ut has a huge start up load.
RE: Tv to run while driving minnie winnie...
I have found that if I prop open the bathroom door with the mirror on it and set the rear view mirror just right, that I can view the overhead TV just fine while driving.
bumpy
Bumpy, dose that reverse the closed captioning?
does
don't really remember. I just crank the volume up really high.
bumpy :)
Then how do you hear the person on the cell phone? :)
that is why I text instead.
bumpy
You two have it all wrong. I text my son, who is in the bedroom, to see the number calling my wife's cell phone, so I can do a reverse phone look-up in my laptop, so I know who calls, so I can interrupt my current phone call and call them back, with the TV in mute, so I have to read the close captions, pay attention to the TV, talk on the phone, watch my GPS, keep a line of communication with my son, see who calls my wife, and when I have a spare minute, make this post in RV.net.
By the way, every so often I change the picture in the widnshield with this big round thing with an airbag in the middle.
RE: Any negatives about eternabond tape
I had an RV tech tell me to clean it with "mineral spirits", but then I read that it would cause problems because of the petroleum. Something about not sticking as well.
What did you clean it with?
anthony
They sell a special cleaner with it. Comes in a spray can, works really well.
RE: Any negatives about eternabond tape
On that dicor self leveling lap sealant, do you scrape off the old before applying the new?
thanks,
anthony
They recomend that you do, but I never did. I just cleaned it really good.
RE: Michelin LTX Tires
That's good to know.
Time for rubber on my dually and I'm looking very seriously at the LTX's
The general experience of folks on this site shows that LTX's are not really suitable for MHs. They seem to fail early a lot of the time.
XPS Ribs are what Michelin shows for this use, and they are excellent, but expensive.
Someone mentioned that Michelin is coming out with an LTX2 (or somethiung like that), I wonder if that will be better?
For now, I'd put LTXs on my SUV or pickup, but not my MH.
Not quite what Michelin says. I called them, and they told me that the XPS are better, but the LTX for the weight a class C carries, it is good enough. I have had LTXs in this and my previous MH, and never had a problem. The issue on this tires is not related to weight capacity, but to weathering cracks.
RE: Any negatives about eternabond tape
Hi map40,
What type of sealer? My old RV was almost more eternabond than siding LOL! It did look ok initially--but then got very shabby from the dirt accumulation.
Hi all,
The only downside I know to eternabond is that the edge of the tape is sticky--dust and dirt will stick to that.
Yeap, but if it bothers you, you can put a small bead of sealer, and it is done.
Regular Dicor lap sealant, not self-leveling. Just small enough to cover the sticky part.

RE: Is a class C for me?
Towing the Grand Cherokee would be good, but you can only do it 4 down, not on a dolly. You need a class C that can tow 5000#, and the tow setup. I tow my Wrangler Unlimited, and my tow setup was less than $650, with brakes and everything.
Contrary to popular belief, the 460 could be fine, the tranny, difficult to say.
RE: Any negatives about eternabond tape
I bought 2 40 feet 2" wide for the seams, and 1 37 foot 4" for the rest. I lest the antena, the vent cap and ladder with dicor.
RE: Any negatives about eternabond tape
I asked 2 different dealers, they said they didn't know what it was, but the best would be Dicor lap sealant. They said they should reseal every 2 years (600 to 800 each time). I was thinking about it while in a campground I saw the tech of my dealership, who didn't know about it, and guess what he had in his roof? Eternabond. They don't recomended because they make less money. I have had 2 MHs and in both cases, it worked great. Only bad side? Once is set, it is there forever. No mistakes allowed. You need to clean the are real well, scuff it a little bit.
RE: Chateau
I got the 31F, 2007 in the 06 chassis. I'm happy with the quality and the design. Besides minos problems, I only had 1 issues, a blocked furnace hose. Nothing big, got it fixed right away, no problems. Even when it was at the dealer, they identified a few more issues that I could have had done, and Four Winds would have paid for them, but I didn't want to, because they where not warranty items, but small things my kids did.
Design, assembly quality and service it really good. If you have a Jayco, I would say it is just as good. We are very happy.
RE: which car should I get ? ?
Stay under 3000 LBS or you will need about $1,650 worth of brakes and breakway cable as require by state laws.
Not quite. The Ford chassis requires supplemental brakes on anything over #1000.
Not according to my owners manual. I have had good luck towing the following manufacturers; Isuzu, Chrysler, Ford, Chevrolet. What realy matters is if the manufacturer has certified the vehicle for recreational towing. This can be found in the owners manual of the vehicle you would like to tow. Good luck with your search.
I'm sorry, I meant that the Ford Motorhome chassis can't tow anything heavier than 1000# without axiliary brakes. Or at least, on my 2006 Ford E450, My 1997 F53, my friend's 2004 E450, and my brother's 2001 E450. All of them from their respective manuals.
RE: which car should I get ? ?
I have had a lot of different vehicles (Dodge Neon, Minivan, F150). The best, by far, are the jeeps. The one I like the most in particular are the Wranglers.
I did my setup with a little over $500, including braking system and towbar.
When I had a 2 door Wrangler TJ (2006), I could not even feel it. I had to put a backup camera to verify I still had it there.
Now I have a 4 Door Wrangler Unlimited. A little heavier, but still a breeze to tow.
I think they are so good because they where designed to be towed. No extra stress in the front end, problems with the tires, nothing.

RE: How did your first rv trip go?
In my first trip we had a COachman Mirada 30Q, bought used from a not-so-reputable dealer. As the brakes where shot, they disconected the brake warning light. When I picked it up, the parking brake was set, but the light was disconected. As I left, after a few miles, the burn smell was killing us. Once we got there, I went to put the parking brake, and it was gone. Burn smell, spongy brakes, and close to $3500 to repair. While they did that, the shop told me the tires where rated D, not G, and they where WAY under the weight of the coach. New tires, (another $1000), finally back on the campground, but... no more vacation days, we have to go back.
RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos
I put an RV gutter arround the window, and a small one over every marker light. This should avoid any water to drain directly into the opening, avoiding one of the biggest sources of water damage.
my water/moisture input seems to be coming from "underneath" the cabover...will those rain gutters work upside down?
Sure, but only for the rain that goes downside up.
RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos
OK, let's see if you like this one.
As my RV gets older, I keep trying to avoid problems. As I have a window in the cabover bed, I decided to directly avoid water from going over any of those openings, by putting an RV Gutter over everything in the front of the cab over. Here are the pictures:

RE: Ask & you MAY receive..?? New Michelin Tires..!!
I started a thread here in April this year when the Michelins on my Winnebago showed cracks early in their life. The dealer I went to would do nothing for me so I replaced the Michelins with SOB. Could be that Michelin is realizing they do have a problem and trying to make it right now. Maybe I was not forceful enough. Congratulations on getting something done.

Sorry to hear that. To be honnest, I called Michelin. When I got to Discount tire, I explained the situation, and they where familiar with the process. I wonder if the tire shop you went to just didn't want want to bother. I have had claims to Michelin before, and I always got an answer.
