RE: Question for Ford 7.3 owners?

#1. Get a performance tranny. (Not some Billy Bob "I do those" rebuilder) But a REAL performance tranny and TC. When it breaks. #2. Buy a "good" programmer and give it some fuel. These engines can handle a good bit of HP and not blow up. IOW's they were way underrated at the factory.Leave it stock #3. Buy a good set of gauges and hang them on the A pillar. Yep #4. Buy a CPS and throw it in the glove box along with a 10MM wrench. Yep #5. I don't know how good the exhaust was on these trucks but I would buy a good exhaust also.Unless something is wrong with it I would leave it alone. Boom, you're done. You have a great truck; and this from an LBZ D-max owner. They don't put out a ton of power but that can be fixed. They can be fixed cheaply and are easy to work on compared to the later model Fords. Best of all, they run forever! BTW it doesn't take a new truck to run good or to have fun!

RE: Opinion on TV for my TT - Ecoboost Towing?

I love my Tundra with the 5.7. However the Ford Max tow gives you more payload.

RE: 3/4 or 1 Ton Truck?

We are in the process of looking at Truck Campers & Trucks. The weight of TC's we have liked so far is between 2300 to 2800# dry weight. If I am figuring 1000# additional weight for gear ect, is that correct? The dry weight + 1000# = a payload of 3300 or 3800#. The payload of a 3/4 ton 2500 HD Chevy SB is 3100#. The 1 ton 3500 HD Chevy SB is 4100#. Are we into a 3500 HD due to payload capacity? I just want to figure it right. I'm not certain some of the salespeople I have spoke with know either. Thanks, Bud99 You're in 1 ton territory for sure. A SRW with proper tires will haul that camper.

RE: Need Good Advice on a TV (which make & is stick ok?)

If you want a stick you'll have to buy a Ram. If you decide on an automatic buy the one you get the best deal on.

RE: 6800lbs. and 31 foot long

Yes you can pull a 6800 pound trailer safely with a 1/2 ton truck.

RE: Towing an Arctic Fox

I have a Nash and pull it with my Tundra. I have zero issues pulling it fully loaded snow skiing for the weekend.

RE: TV Advice

Expedition/Suburban or 1/2 truck is what I would go with. Why couldn't you put your dog in a crate in the back of the truck? Our lab loves her crate.

RE: I think it's upgrade time....

How much do you tow a year? How many miles are you going to put on the new/used truck? A new/used diesel is allot of truck to have sitting around just to pull a trailer a 6000 pound trailer when a newer half ton would work. 75mph pulling a trailer is to fast no matter what truck you have.

RE: Why does the market demand Diesel??

Years past you could make up the cost of the diesel engine because diesel was allot cheaper. Now gas is cheaper by 40 to 50 cents which eats up the better fuel mileage argument. Diesel trucks are only getting 3 to 4 miles per gallon better on average than a gas if that. Have you done the math on that statement? Assume diesel is $4.00 per gallon, gas is $3.50 diesel is 12.5% more costly. if towing with gas and you get 8 mpg, all a diesel needs to get to be even cost of fuel per mile is 9 mpg, in reality the difference is more like 3 to 4 mpg with the same or heaver load. So it does take longer for pay back, but the true cost difference between a diesel and like equipped gas is usually less than $7,000 sticker price. Then add to that the higher resale value of a diesel on the used market, and the cost goes down. I strongly believe that many of the nay sayers in this thread, have never towed with a diesel, ot towed with a bad Ford 6.0! Many time's have you? The 3 diesels that I have pulled and driven with all get the same mileage day to day as the gas trucks I've driven. Diesel trucks where Ford 6.0, 7.3 and Dodge 2006. The gas trucks are Chevy 3/4 ton 6.0 and Tundra 5.7. The diesels get 3 mpg better pulling. The thing you have to remember is most of the time the truck wont be hooked up to anything for most people. You can only use the diesel get better mileage when pulling and that is only 10% of the time for most people if that.

RE: Needing a stronger tow vehicle?

Since your looking in the 10 to 15 grand area and Ford 3/4 with a V10 or a Chevy 3/4 with the 6.0. Both are gas and both will do great pulling that load.

RE: Why does the market demand Diesel??

I've had F350's diesel's which couldn't stay out of the shop and our current Tundra which is a great truck. I have a bunch of friends that have companies that are swapping from diesel 350 and 450's to Ford 6.2, 350 and 450's. Keep in mind the trucks tow heavy every day. Gasser's are made to rev high.

RE: To EcoBoost or Not...

Why not get the EcoBoost and a smaller trailer? That being said our fuel bill last month was over $800.
