RE: Disappointed in Cummins Engine

I think for the most part the op got it right when he said after removing the manifold the problems started--and not with Cummins nor the owner or his maintenance or choice of fluids. With ALL the problems that suddenly started occurring as the work progressed does anyone believe the unit even ran to the garage.Too bad,I hope the workmanship is top notch.

RE: Repair or replace roof?

If you need a larger unit,do it but not based upon the damage. Was there structural damage that needs repair, or membrane only?I have several comments I could make about my thoughts on the dealer, but I am sure you have your own.

RE: Jackhammering water pump

Make sure you put parts of a foam noddle between hard lines and the floor,I used 24" long flexible water lines on both sides of the pump and mounted the pump up off the floor with soft rubber feet,no screws into floor, glued to the rubber.

RE: border-crossing fee for Canadians ?

OK if the cost of border security is being a burden what is the alternative?Less security, close border crossings, shorter hours.Where does the money come from?Every problem has a solution, what is it.Personally I am still in favor of user pay,oh I guess you could impose some kind of fee on every business doing business with a non US citizen!!If it wasn't for the money savings no one would spend the money on gas to cross for shopping.

RE: border-crossing fee for Canadians ?

I can't believe so many people getting there shorts in a knot,if a few bucks is going to stop you from going shopping or vacationing across the border by all means stay home. You planned on a shopping trip to save all that money across the border and now a few bucks has got your hair up and you won't go,must not have been much of a bargain what with the cost of filling up on cheaper gas etc.You don't even know what the cost might be,what if it is only $5.00 per person and you can still save several hundred??????

RE: border-crossing fee for Canadians ?

Like all things users pay,if it helps provide better security, good. It will not stop people from crossing the border and vacationing or shopping.Wonder what the fee will be?Make it worth while and meaningful,do a seasonal for long term, some sharp minds will come up with something.Nothing is free it gets paid some how,by somebody. If it benefits me fine I will pay.

RE: Keeping A FW From Being Stolen

A friend of mine once told me that the best theft deterrent was a copy of his rv loan payments taped to the hitch.Must work he still has it.

RE: Got bad news today, now depressed!

Well it sure keeps the skeeters under control.Looks like our lake will be iced over until June 01 according to the locals.Should have a couple of days of summer sometime in early August then straight into fall.

RE: Maybe found my diesel.

Hey looks like my old truck except I had 4x4.I bought new and had it for 4 years easy miles. The problems I had were trans.,turbo bolts, radiator, body rattles, front end alignment, transfer case shifting.Sounds terrible but really wasn't,most were done under warranty, still like the sound of that old Navistar.

RE: Siping tires

$90.00 gross profit for the tire dealer. I would use the money to purchase fuel. That fuel would put me about 210 miles farther down the road. randy Yup, long as you stay on the road, there is an expense to have it done labor and more expensive equipment,do you know how it is done or have you seen it done,of course not you are to far down the road. You are way ahead of us poor winter drivers.LOL.

RE: Siping tires

If you haven't tried it where the temperature turns the all season tires into frozen round castors don't knock it.I much prefer it to studded winter tires,it is much quieter and you bet all those extra edges help grip on slippery conditions.

RE: New and Clueless!!

I agree with all the above. This forum is all about RVing, camping, routes, destinations and RV life style, and if I understand you correctly, you plan to purchase a brand new camper just to park it all the time in one place so there is not to much you could learn here except maybe how to maintain your camper which can also be done through your dealer. I truly believe that this forum is not the one that you are looking for. I took the liberty and searched for a mobile home forum and found few, they are not campers but it is closer to you life style than the Open Roads RV forum. You are of-course more than welcome here but again -how can I/we help you? Well now I really am interested in what length of time in one spot determines if you belong on this site or not.Does a snow bird who goes south for 5 months and LEASES a spot qualify for this site,do I have to move my unit once a week, how long can I stay still with full hook ups.So many questions. Can I have a seasonal site and use my tent fishing to be ok?Can't seem to find any rules or regulations against seasonal RV's,and I am one now after almost 49 years of rv'ing.Maybe I don't belong either.

RE: New and Clueless!!

I think leasing close to home to start with is a great idea to start out.You will have less stress and find more time with the kids, also probably use it more often, easy to run out to for the evening fire when working.I agree with buying used to see what you think will work best.At the end of the first season I am sure you will be ready to venture out.Have fun and enjoy.

RE: Two problems with Good Sam here in Canada.

Good tip in the scotch tape - thanks! I have to agree about the shipping. I was ready to order the GS atlas but cancelled my order when I saw the shipping costs. Be careful about your comments regarding UPS and CW there was a post just shut down because of critical comments and attaching blame or fault.

RE: NOT IMPRESSED

UPS charges are killing across boarder on line shopping.I went to order a filter from a USA company and the sales lady told me that I should buy it in Canada because they only use UPS.She even sourced it for me in Canada and it was not an associated company but a competitor.Border fees etc. do add to the price but very little as NAFTA items are pretty comprehensive.

RE: How did you purge?

We did not have estate or garage sales as we did not want tire kickers pawing through our stuff and debating prices. My life, my stuff, gone, not for nosy neighbors.

RE: How did you purge?

We are in the same process and this is what we did.Asked if anyone wanted the china, furniture etc. If you do come and get it by a certain date,or it goes to charity.Any clothes not worn for 6 months is given away.Sold some furniture at carry away prices, decided what the price should be then cut it in half.Asked new owners what they would like left behind and did it.Upgraded new clothes, new furniture to fit now rented condo, pictures are all in several boxes and will be sorted into families for pickup if interested. We have pictures we haven't looked at for 40 years, why would I keep all this stuff and and leave a burden for my daughter to do when I fall off the perch.Took some of the money and bought a new set of golf clubs for the grandson and a camera for the grand daughter.Gave all my tools to a nephew for him and his son.No regrets and stress looking forward to move and new places and friends.More time at the lake.

RE: Customs

I cannot remember the exact amount from the cruise we took last year but there is X number of Oz. that are allowed. I think, but could be wrong, it is equal to about 3 standard size wine bottles Is that American customs?

RE: Customs

We used to declare the volume of the different bottles and then decided that at the cheap price of giggle juice we just gave it to whom ever wanted it and didn't have to worry about customs."Make someone happy" you know the old song.
