I also took some videos of each stage of this process which I'll post on youtube once completed.Sweet! Can't wait to see them.

RE: Eco-worthy 20a MPPT controller

BTW, I'm up the coast from you in Goleta. Today is a great sunny day to run solar tests. Will be looking forward for further results. Refugio? Just got back from Point Mugu SB. AWESOME weather, perfect for solar.

RE: How Do I Charge, and Maintain 2 New 6 Volt Batteries???

You can leave everything hooked up in the trailer. Alternators put out lower voltage than most converters anyways and most appliances are good to 15V.

RE: New RV'r - Batts + Chargers + Inverters = clueless

A 90 amp IOTA requires a 20 amp circuit. So does the 75 I think. The Powermax Boondocker 100 amp only requires a 15 amp circuit.

RE: New RV'r - Batts + Chargers + Inverters = clueless

Like donn mentioned, change your converter out for a 3 stage unit. Two, 1500w inverter is too much for just TV and sat and not enough for most microwaves (unless its a small one then maybe). Also, go for 4 6V batteries if your going to be boondocking a lot. EDIT: just saw your requirements. You are correct, 1500W for all that at the same time.

RE: How Do I Charge, and Maintain 2 New 6 Volt Batteries???

If you're wanting any kind of decent life on those batteries, you'll need to make sure they are well and fully charged. Leaving these on float hoping they'll be charged up for the next beating won't work in your case (or any case IMO). I'd really be inclined to do as smk suggested and get some solar so you're not taking them down to flat dead all the time. Depending on what kind of rig you have, I probably would've gotten a pair of L16's (370-435 amp hours vs 232 amp hours for GC's) instead of the GC's. Get yourself a Black and Decker VEC1093DBD portable charger, you'll need the equalize and recondition functions it offers.

RE: Charge controller recommendations

Hi, While MPPT is less cost effective it does extract more energy from the panels. If you can possibly wait for the new Rogue I'd do so.I wouldn't spend $300 on a controller for 3 75W panels. I'd get a bunch of cheap one's and replace them as needed and have money left over.

RE: Charge controller recommendations

Wire them in parallel and get 15A PWM controller for a fraction of cost.X2 Your panels won't benefit at all from MPPT. Get a decent, cheap PWM controller.

RE: Costco vs Sams Club 6V Golf Cart Batteries

Let us know what happens when one of your 12v "goes bad." I'm dying to know not only what really happens or if it EVER happens.I hear this a lot but a bad battery in parallel doesn't automatically take the other out. Last year one of the two 12V's that came with my rig took a crap. When I bought the rig, I never checked that batts because I was replacing them anyways. I kept them in parallel sitting in the garage until I could figure out what to do with them. When a friend asked for them, I went out to check them and one was a little low in voltage from full and the other was MUCH lower (like 50% SOC). I charged both separately until "full" then ran one equalize charge (BD1093) until "full" again. The good one was 1.285 and other was 1.260 plus the voltage was dropping (wasn't holding full charge). Who knows how long that one battery was bad.

RE: Small Solar - Inexpensive

Also alternators taper voltage and current the hotter they get.

RE: swap 5k lbs hitch to a 10k lbs hitch

I know cops and every one of them has said that unless the vehicle LOOKS unsafe, they don't care. I don't know about Texas but here in CA the mfg's sticker on the MH does not determine legality.

RE: How many batteries?

Thanks Mex. BTW I have taken a picture of Mena's sister, who has been visiting up and down our campground sites lately (while on shore leave moulting)LOL! I TOTALLY missed this one! Oddly, the resemblance is striking.

RE: 12 Volt Outlets

Don't! They suck. Use the socket for stuff you would normally charge in your car/truck. Maybe a small inverter (definitely under 300 watts)X2, they usually put REALLY thin wire on those and the sockets themselves are not rated to handle much power. They expect it to be used like one's in your car, for charging phones and such. Marinco does make a 15 amp socket and you could wire up some properly sized wire to that and run heavier duty devices from it like old 12V tube screen TV's. http://www.marinco.com/files/img_main/products/12VRC-CMYK-99.jpg

RE: Converter not charging gen battery in trailer

Some MH's don't charge the chassis batteries from shore power. Who knows why the mfg decided this was a good idea. You could hook some jumper cables from the house batts to the genny starter batt.
