RE: dumping fresh water question

So are these LEOs pulling over every boat that just came out of the water? Boats drain water for miles after being pulled out of the water. At least the water from a fresh water tank is clean. Who knows what kinds of bacteria is being spread by draining boats. -Michael

RE: 110 power

Do you know how big the inverter is? Our Jayco Greyhawk came with a small 400 Watt inverter that is connected to only one outlet. It's the outlet over the cab that powers the TV outlet. A larger inverter will most likel be wired to more outlets. -Michael

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

We have two RVs with Sidekicks. Both RVs came with them. I've used it under the awning on both. On the MH, it sits right under the window by the dinette. It can get smokey inside if the window is left open and the grill is smoking a lot, but the smoke detector has never gone off. On the HTT, smoke hasn't gotten inside as the nearest window is small and off the side of the grill. Only once did I get little black grease blobs on the side of the MH when I cleaned off the grill. They came off easily enough. To avoid that, I just let the grease burn off the grate before scraping the grill grate. That being said, I wouldn't buy one if I had to replace the grill. I love the convenience of hooking into the RV's propane supply, but for the money, there are a lot better grills out there. -Michael

RE: >L

Brought my trailer to Dixie for some warranty work. While there I had a long talk with the service dept. about me and others who are dissatisfied with the service received there. That second sentence begs the question: If you were "dissatisfied with the service received there", why would you go back? -Michael

RE: Sidekick Grill Cover?

We love our sidekicks. Our last two RVs came with them and have cooked all kinds of things on them. Have even smoked on them. I don't believe they make a cover specifically for the sidekick, but you can probably get a small universal one that will fit. Just know the dimensions you need and find one that matches. -Michael

I knew I was not blocking anything but I asked him what I was doing wrong. If you weren't in a marked parking spot, you were in the wrong. -Michael

RE: To old to pull that big rig.

Your eyes are weak, you are slower, the hearing not so good anymore. Sounds like it might be time to end the driving days altogether. I don't care what you are driving, if your eyes are weak and you are slower you shouldn't be driving. -Michael

RE: eating lunch at the fuel pumps

Hmmmmmm - Doesn't happen???.:S Very astute observation, "bigdogger"!.:W The VP says . . . what?? ...:@..:@..:( . That's quite different from what bigdogger was talking about. Not giving companies rebates that are owed is different from skimming at the gas pump. -Michael

RE: Brake controller

On our 2009 Greyhawk 31FS the pigtail is tucked under the dash near the steering column. -Michael

RE: Typical emergency road service?

The basic problem was the initial representative was located in the Delaware region and should have transferred me to a representative in the Tidewater region where I was located. Instead she had a tow company from 150 miles away contact me. The last time I required a tow and was out of my region, my region took my info and had someone from the AAA region I was in to call and followup and then arrange the tow. -Michael

RE: Typical emergency road service?

We had an incident where our TV failed 70 miles into a 150 mile trip. At the time we had AAA Plus and Coachnet (was free for 1 year with RV purchase). Both companies contacted the same tow truck company to tow the TV, HTT and family of 4. The big difference was that AAA Plus allowed us to get to our destination 80 miles away while Coachnet would only take us to the nearest service station (for TV) and campground for us and HTT. I even offered to pay the difference, but they would do it. We've been with AAA for 15 years. We have used it many times for our vehicles as well as friends and family. I don't expect immediate service and the only time I've had to wait excessively is when I needed to tow both the TV & HTT. The first time was early evening on a Saturday and the other was mid-day on a Sunday. I like AAA because lots of stores, restaurants, theme parks, etc. offer discounts for members. We've had it in 3 different regions and have never had issues getting service when outside our region. -Michael

RE: electric step out when headllights turned on...

A few months after we bought our new 2009 Jayco Greyhawk, our step started doing weird things. It would go out as expected, but often times it would not retract, even when the key was put in the ignition. At the same time, I could not adjust the side-veiw mirrors with the controller. We took it in to a dealer fo that and some other warranty work. We were told that the steps were wired improperly. After it was fixed, the steps worked properly and the mirrors could be adjusted too. Bad grounds and short circuits can cause all kinds of goofy things to happen. -Michael

RE: On-board grill

I basically do the same as WoodGlue. It's hard to get rid of the odor completely, but I haven't had issues with it attracting bugs. It is stored in an outside storage compartment, so the odor doesn't get into the MH. -Michael

RE: What kind of Florida snake was this

Instead of killing it, you should have relocated it. It's obvious from the shape of its head that it isn't venomous. -Michael

RE: Kemah,Tx

I wasn't too happy with Kemah RV Resort and it definitely wasn't kid friendly. There was not much to do for the little kids when we were there last. That was a few years ago, so it may have improved. We wouldn't go back. -Michael

RE: Home from our trip to Disney

Glad you had a great trip. It's definitely worth the drive. We try to get to Fort Wilderness twice a year, usually once in the spring and once in the fall. We usually just go for FW, since 2005 we've only done all the parks twice. It's only a 3.5 hour drive for us and in the early spring and fall, it's not too expensive and it is always quiet (except weekends). -Michael

RE: RV parking in St. Augustine, Florida ?

There is an RV & Bus parking lot in St. Augustine. It's about a 5 block walk from the heart of the downtown district. It's next to Augustine Francis Field. You can see it on this map. We used it once and there was only one other RV and bus in the lot. Plenty of parking even for larger rigs. I hear it fills up when they have events at the field. When we were there last it was a free parking lot. -Michael

RE: Greenville-Spartanburg SC area

We like Paris Mountain SP as well, have camped there a few times. It does have a few pull thrus, 2 of them are nice and long. The sites aren't very level, so for an overnight stop, it might not be a great place. Haven't stayed anywhere else in the area. -Michael

RE: Road Side Ass. Plans

We had Coach-net for 1 year free when we bought our hybrid travel trailer. We also had AAA at the time. On a trip when our tow vehicle's fuel pump died, we tried using both services. Called AAA first, told us for a truck that could handle TV, HTT & family of 4 we'd have to wait 2 hours for a truck that was on another call. Coach-net told us the same thing. The big difference was that Coach-net would only tow us to the nearest campground for the HTT and nearest Chevy dealer for the TV, which was about 60 miles from our destination. Since we had AAA Plus (100 mile tow), AAA was able to tow us to the campground we had reservations at as well as take the TV to a Chevy dealer local to the campground. AAA and Coach-net both contacted the same tow truck company. So the tow service experience would have been the same, except for where we weould have been towed. The one nice thing that Coach-net did do for us was contact the State police to let them know we were disabled. We've had AAA for 15 years across 3 different regions (South Jersey, Mid-Atlantic and South) and have been happy with their service every time we've used them. We've used them several times outside our region and have not had issues getting coverage. -Michael
