Save us a good spot. We'll be there on Tuesday 4/23. First time at the park and really looking forward to it.

RE: Looking for a Good CG near Washington DC?

We loved our stay at Pohick Bay. Quiet wooded setting and a great location. We had our own transportation to the metro station and Mt Vernon which worked out well for us. No issues with traffic.
We didn't need all the pricey amenities of cherry hill and handled our own sightseeing so those services weren't needed for our stay either. So decide what is important to you and your budget and have a great time.
A search will return my complete review of Pohick. I have no connection to Pohick but it was recommended by someone on this site and worked out perfectly for our needs.

RE: Washington DC- April vacation - Help?

Check out Pohick Bay regional park in Lorton,Va if you don't need the pricey amenities of cherry hill. We used Pohick as our base for a week in April 2011. We had our own transportation to the metro station and for us traffic was a non issue even though you'll read about how bad it is. couldn't have been any better for us.. Would definitely go back.. Also convenient to Mt Vernon which was very nice.

RE: Any Birding enthusiasts here?

Thank you, thank you for all the great responses. I knew this was the right place to ask.
I never even thought of apps for his Iphone/Ipad. He's a tech geek, too.
What do I look for in a scope? Is it the same as a hunting scope?
he has a tripod.
What is the advantage of a scope over binoculars? Are there specific features I should look for in "birding" binoculars although these may be outside the budget for this new "hobby". His hobbies tend to come and go frequently.
Now I can go to Amazon and Google search engines with all the right buzz words.
We have a Bass Pro Shop very near us, never thought about searching there either.
Y'all are the best !!

Any Birding enthusiasts here?

I'm looking for gift ideas for a friend who has become interested in Birds, their habitats, different species, etc.
He's been watching web cams of eagles, herons and osprey to give you an idea of the direction of his interest, but he likes them all.
Need ideas from recommended binoculars to books or other accessories, locations for bird watching in the southeast, favorite websites, etc.
I have no idea where to start or what questions to ask. Hopefully, some fellow RVers who share this hobby can help me.
Thanks!

RE: Savannah, Ga. RV parks/ places to vist

Just got back from Savannah yesterday. Route from Montgomery through Macon. Stayed at Skidaway 4 nights. Sites are spacious and ours was very private. Well pleased with our stay and easy drive to Savannah and Tybee Island for tourist stuff. Staff was friendly and bath houses clean and in good repair. Unseasonably hot, humid and rained alot during our stay so we were inside more than usual - cable TV was a little lacking with only a few basic channels.
Water and electric only. Would go back.

2012 vs 2013 for Same Model/Floorplan

Same Rockwood Model and both trailers have the same floor plan and amenities. My preference is toward the 2012 because I like the interior cabinets and upholstery better, as well as the outside graphics but both trailers are acceptable.
2012 is located 300 miles away, 2013 is located 100 miles away. No local RV sales in the area for this model. Published price is approx 21,500 & within $400 of each other. Both new on the lot.
Where should I land on negotiations for these trailers. How much difference should I expect just for the model year difference? Which one would be the better buy?
No trade in issues to consider.
We expect to keep it 5+ years.
Please Help me decide.

RE: The House that Jerry Built

Thanks so much for the quick responses. TreeTops, The Vineyards and Traders Village do not currently have any available reservations - at least online - I have the direct numbers and will call to see if anything is available directly through the office numbers.
Cedar Hill State Park has availability in Loops H & G. Anybody have suggestions about preferences for one Loop over the other. From older reviews posted on RVParkReviews.com, site selection takes lots of patience. Please give us any pointers if you have experience with sites in this park. The online map indicates tight and packed loops.
We don't require pull throughs but easy access in and out would be a plus.
Office efficiency was also identified in some of the reviews as an issue. Anybody have any current knowledge of whether these issues have been resolved. This probably won't keep us away this trip, however it is something I'd like to be prepared for.
Thanks again for the people of RV.net Keep those suggestions coming.

The House that Jerry Built

After a late decision, we're trying to make arrangements to see the Alabama vs Michigan kickoff game at Dallas Stadium on Sept 1st. Any suggestions for camping arrangements in the area at this late date? Need Friday and Saturday nights only.
Traveling from Montgomery AL with 21' travel trailer and diesel dually. Prefer full hookups. Experienced sisters traveling together but safe and secure is a must.
Prefer state park style camping, not RV parking lots if we have a choice. For this trip we might compromise.
Any route suggestions welcome as well.

Recent Flooding in Alachua, FL ??

An RV dealership in Alachua, FL has posted a new Travel Trailer online that I'm interested in. Before I make the 300+ mile drive, I'm curious to know if someone familiar with the area has knowledge of whether this area was flooded during the recent TS Debby that drenched so much of Florida. Could these trailers have water damage that might not be visible 2 weeks later? Is it likely this dealer will be honest and forthcoming with accurate information regarding this? Thanks!

RE: Camping - Wash DC Area?

+ 1 Pohick Bay Regional Park in Lorton, Va. We camped there for a week as a home base for our touring in DC. Sounds like what you're looking for with spacious sites, water and elec and we also camped in a popup. Was perfect for our needs. I don't recall if they have a pool but a quick phone call is all you need. Customer service over the phone was great, people were very friendly and helped me decide on the perfect site for us. Easy access to the metro and we had NO travel issues at all. We were there in April of 2011. Just ask if you have questions. I have a previous review on this site if you want to search the forum.
I think you'll like it.

RE: Washington, DC and Metro

+ 1 for Pohick - we couldn't justify the cost of Cherry Hill and all its amenities that we weren't going to use.
no problems driving to nearest metro, and quiet safe campground. We stayed there a week as a home base for our touring in DC.
