RE: Tarp to cover camper

I used a blue tarp to cover mine last winter. I can probably use it for one more winter. I spent a total of around $60 to purchase it last fall.

RE: Finally a new truck.

Wow the Ford blew it with 6.0 and they know it. You probably could tell by your trade in value. But congrats on the new truck. I don't like to see you leave Ford but Dodge is a awesome replacement and ya'll look really happy. Thanks for the post it's a beautiful truck and family. Happy Camping TecheMan I've got 231k miles on my 6.0 and it's still pulling like a champ. I would say that a Dodge w/ a Cummins would be a serious contender for a replacement someday.

RE: Custom Front Hitch

Wow, that's a great idea. I've been struggling with an idea for this. You may have the answer. I have a plow mounted on my truck during the winter. Was trying to come up w/ a way to use that to mount a front hitch. I've got tow hooks too and could use those instead since they don't interfere w/ the plow mount.

RE: Truck Camper on VW Pickup, Dusseldorf RV Show

I sure wish they would sell those VW pickup here in the US. That TDI engine would be wonderful. My TDI Jetta gets 49 mpg highway and 38 city. I would imagine that an unloaded pickup would get at least 30 mpg.

RE: hawaii

I visited Maui and stayed in Lahaina. Some places were very commercial with lots of restaurants and others were off the beaten path. Also did the "Road to Hana". Now that was a trip. A very curvy road with lots of picturesque places to stop to take pictures. The drive is mostly on two lane, sometimes single lane with multiple bridges and waterfalls. We spent the night in Hana and really felt that we were off the grid. No tv, no radio, and just a very nice room with a view of the ocean and a nice black sand beach. It was fun to watch the local kids go out and surf after school. It really gives you a feel of what it must've been like 75 years ago. I still use the pictures I took then as wall papers on my computer.

RE: Loading a camper without enough space between the jacks

Once you get the camper close to the bed, remove the jack, use a wood post to support the bottom of the camper a few feet back as you remove the jack. Once you get the front of the camper over the truck bed your danger of tipping over is gone. The worst that could happen then is it sits on the bed of the truck. I have 2" to spare between my jacks and do it regularly. I also don't jack it up very high over the bed just in case I bump one of the jacks and it tips.

RE: Very concerned with Sandy!!!

What's really amazing is that I live 700 miles away from where Sandy came ashore and I am getting 50 mph gusts today and tonight.

RE: Front mount hitches

ticki2 - Thanks for the pics. Now I just need to hang around the Western dealer and see if I can snatch up a discarded mount.

RE: Front mount hitches

This may be a little off topic but has anyone used an old snow plow mounting to attach a front hitch? My truck has to work to earn it's keep during the winter. Was thinking about finding an old plow mounting and welding a receiver to that.

RE: 2500 LP Onan

Joe B, I' ve owned three of the gas versions of the same Onan, the 2800. Onan sells a resonator that can be welded into the tailpipe that helps the noise a noticeable amount. Post back if you're interested, and I'll dig out the part number. Jim, "Mo' coffee!" Jim-please do provide the part number. I have the 2500 version. Very rarely do I use the gen but it would be nice to tone it down a bit. I guess the AC can drown out the gen but neither of those help the neighbors.

RE: Working on the road

I have a job as a consultant and work strictly via my laptop. I very rarely need to make site visits so could theoretically work from the moon if I had an internet connection. I have a truck camper and have been tempted just to take off for a week and sit near Lake Michigan somewhere and work from the beach just because I can.

RE: Out of state sales tax

Indiana BMV requires that you register your TC. Don't know why since it doesn't have wheels. You are not required to register your truck cap. It's just Indiana's way to tax you since they think you are rich if you own a TC.

RE: Ford Diesels 6.0, & 6.4 Looking to buy heard problems?

I have an 06 with the 6.0. 228k miles and no problems. I do change fluids religiously. My truck works. Pulls a lawn trailer in the summer. Plows snow in the winter and hauls my TC in between.

RE: DRW in snow & Mud???

I have a DRW flatbed 4x4. Not only does it carry my TC, but it serves as my plow truck in the winter. Must note, does not do both at the same time. When plowing, I have a 1/2 ton of sand in the back and 1/2 ton of plow on the front. I've not been stuck at all. Two winters ago, plowed a 39" snowfall with no problems other than the snow coming over the top of my plow. I do think that tires and driver experience is 90% of the battle.

RE: Mounting bike rack

For all you guys with a front hitch, does anyone have a plow receiver on the front also? My truck doubles as my plow truck during the winter.

RE: is this considered a TC?

I think that's more of a class V, almost a class W.

RE: Thank you Indiana State Trooper

My neighbor is an Indiana State Trooper and he is just as helpful around the neighborhood also. It's nice to have a state trooper car parked in the driveway across the street. I'm sure that they are all trained to to do this but some do go out of their way to help.
