RE: Navistar RV is gone.......Hello new owners

Hipower stated:The Navistar engine line would seem to be well proven in their OTR truck products and if the HP/torque curves fit in an RV application it would seem to be a good alternative to Cummins, Cat and Detroit. I don't know where you got that information. Those engines are far from proven and came very close to killing Navistar's engine mfg.! The truckers hated the engines and finally Navistar smartened up and is installing Cummins. Neither Cat nor Detroit are supplying engines to RV mfrs. Cat does not sell any OTR engines other than something for specialty uses. Detroits may be used in some bus conversions. If the new owners expect to sell any units they will have to dump that ridiculous excuse for a powerplant. I do hope they continue with the Roadmaster but the last link sounds like that too will be history. I bet most in this forum do not know that the Roadmaster chassis was designed by Chrysler just before they went bankrupt. Moisheh

RE: ULSD in Baja

Mexicowanderer: I ma certainly no expert but the only way to "clean" the DPF is via a machine or by regens. Switching to ULSD would not help but infrequent usage of the high sulfur fuel should not cause any problems as the DPF will be cleaned with a regen. Just maybe a little sooner. I don't know what happens if you continuously use ULSD. Porbably plugs the DPF. The on vehicle cleaning is done by injecting raw diesel into the filter and lighting it on fire!!! ( A dramatic explanation). When Cat was still building OTR truck engines they had an access door on the DPF and sold a kit one could use to clean the filter. Moisheh

RE: Do you have a Good Sam Rand McNally RVND-7725-Lm GPS

The Rand is one of the worst RV GPS ever to hit the market. There are so many info bands on the screen that it really is only a 3.5 inch screen. The sound is like a crystal radio. The voices suck. I returned it and bought a real GPS Garmin 760 DEZL. Moisheh

RE: Toyo vs Hankook Tires

Hankook are OEM on both Navistar and Freightliner trucks. That should tell you what you need to know. Moisheh

RE: Norcold 1200LRM fails to power on.

If you do a search there is a way to reset that box with a magnet. But first you have to lake sure there is no leaks in the system. Moisheh

RE: Border Agents rude and difficult at Nogales

Nogales quaint??? I have heard many descriptions of Nogales but quaint has never been in the converstaion. Maybe you can find a quaint border town in Maine or North Dakota but not in the Southwest. Nogales,az is a dirty crime ridden drug tunnel filled hell hole. Just slightly better than the Mexican town with the same name. When CBP agents get transfered to Nogales it is considered punishment. RE: Canceling A 10 Year Permit Part Tres

Thanks to Mexnut's advice I called Mexico City this morning. The lady I spoke with did not speak English but she "dumbed down" her Spanish and spoke clearly. Yes all I need is a letter from the DMV stating it is registered in Mississippi. I wrote the buyer and am sure I will get the letter. Isn't this fun? NO! Moisheh

RE: Canceling A 10 Year Permit Part Tres

Mexnut: Thanks for your story. My MH is now registered in Mississippi. I called the Sec. of State and they will do the Apostile for $2.00. I think the copy of the actual registration should be bullet proof. I do not want to do this twice. But I will call them on Monday for clarification. BTW: For all those who think your TIP is linked to a passport. They found the file by using the last 5 digits of my VIN. I suspect that the database is sophisticated and will find you by multiple means. I just reread this thread and one would think we were terrorists with an evil plot not tourists! But I forgot that terrorists just drive across km21 with no permits! Moisheh

RE: Canceling A 10 Year Permit Part Tres

Mexnut: You may be correct. I will check. The new owner is a great guy and he will notarize the registration and send it to be Apostiled( I dont think that is a verb!). Here is what is in the letter: Original o copia apostillada del documento emitido por el departmento de motores y vehiculos del Condado ( I think that is a typo?)o Estado de Union americana, en el que se hace constar que la casa rodante maraca xxxxxxxxx con de seriexxxxx se encuentra registrado a nombre de otra persona;lo anterior, en virtud de que el documento que usted vendio es el contratao de venta de la casa rodante. Then there is a bunch of nonsense about calling them if I have any questions. I can easily get the new owner to go to the DMV and get that letter. But it would be in English and they might reject the document? I think a copy of the registration might be better? Did you send them the letterhead? I can call them on Monday for clarification. It's only $2.00 for the Apostile. This should be a lesson for anyone who is selling his unit without canceling the sticker. Make sure you get that letter from your DMV when you sell. This could be difficult for Canadians . The new owner could get the document but our DMV's have strict privacy laws. I should have read the whole document but saw red and got all excited. This has not been fun. I was justb trying to followm the law. I doubt I will really need the permit canceled as I don't have any vehicles in my name that are in Mexico. But should Sonora lose the no hassle zone I would have problems. Thanks Mexnut. Moisheh

Canceling A 10 Year Permit Part Tres

Some of you may remember that I was having a problem getting my permit canceled but it came back. I had sent it to the address that was on the web but they moved the office. I resent it to the new address. One poster told me of doing this multiple times as they kept asking for more paperwork. Well today I received a letter from SAT. They also need a copy of the new USA registration showing the new owners name. But it has to be apostiled. That is a real problem. The person whose name is on the registration has to request the Apostle . I called the SAT office and spoke to 4 different people. They would not budge. BTW: No one speaks English , the phone connection sounds like 2 Tomato Juice cans and they spoke so fast I could hardly understand anything. I will need extra BP meds today. I have contacted the buyer and hope he will help. I think I will take up drinking! Moisheh

RE: Dash cams

For $30.00 you are going to get a child'd toy. Truckers spend upwards of $1000 for a real system. But good old Ebay and some sharp Chinese Entrepeneurs have some great deals on quality units. Here is a link to an ebay seller that is highly recommended. This is one of the most popular units but you have to be careful as some companies are selling knock offs of this baby. ebay seller There is a forum devoted to dashcams dashcams Moisheh

RE: Border Agents rude and difficult at Nogales

Actually we have noticed that this past season the USA border personnel have been great. Polite, efficient and even showed some humor a few times. Methinks there is more to this story than what was posted. The only female we have ewncountered does the Ag inspection. She remembers us and always talks to Sally Mae ( the cat). Moisheh

RE: the famous article 106

106 Of course an American would find us a link to something to do with wars and spying. Linda: This is in Spanish but it is the latest. Still no mention of the new Immigration status. We could get a Residente Permanente but too many problems with foreign cars. Moisheh
