RE: To Fifth wheel from Class A with toad

We went from TC, to 5er, to Moho, to TC, and are settling back to a 5er. IMO...if your a sitter, a 5er. If your a traveler, a Moho. We like to sit for a while and with the Moho....they don't like to sit. Its a vehicle with a drivetrain, sitting is not good for them. The 5er doesn't care, there is no drivetrain to deal with and the TV is your driver when parked. I've always owned at least a 3/4 ton truck, so its no big deal to use it for around town errands.

RE: We are Coming to the "Dark Side"

Enjoy the hunt, while mine isn't fully before the electronic era, I do like it and it pulls great. I think you would still be save with an up to 07.5 Cummins/Ram, Up to 03 Ford 7.3 Corn Binder, and up to 07 GM Duramax, good hunting my friend. We have decided to keep Red for now, she is in REALLY good shape with 118K on the clock. We know it well and its already setup the way we want it, and I just rebuilt the whole frontend on it including new tires. When the ol'460 gets tired..........I think I'll retro-fit a 5.9 Cummins in her!

RE: We are Coming to the "Dark Side"

OK I have done a little reading and correct me if i am wrong. If your group has truck campers and you buy a fifth wheel you have gone to the dark side. If your group has gassers and you get a diesel you have gone to the dark side. If every one else uses wood blocks and you start using lynx levelers you'd be going to the dark side. Basically when you upgrade above your peers you go to the dark side. Like when somone becomes a cop and you never see them again cause they always hang out with all their cop buddies. I think I got it!? It has nothing to do with tech, if you go from a truck camper to any other RV............you went to the darkside......lol. The TC is just not big enough, we will be going fulltime soon.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Ruthie spent the weekend painting the kitchen and the over-dinette storage, while I made load spreaders for the front jack brackets and went over the whole jack system in prep for the selling.

RE: can someone please explaing this

I've always spun the wheel and tighten to about 10-15lbs. Then back it off to the next hole in the castle. Never had a problem.

We are Coming to the "Dark Side"

We went the full gambit.....TC, 5er, Moho, TC, and we are going back to a 5er. We have been doing a truck camper for a while, and it worked for us, for the RVing that we did. Times are changing and the way we RV are too. We will be taking the TC out one last time over the holiday weekend, then the whole setup will go up for sale, since the truck is setup for the TC and to tow behind it with a Torklift Superhitch. We will be buying a pre-electronic 3/4 ton diesel tow rig to pull the Alpenlite and add a hitch to flat tow our Scout behind it when needed. We spent hours yesterday sitting in the 5er and re-designing it to our needs......and I have to say that we are kinda excited to start the project. We've had the Aplenlite for a little over a year, but haven't done anything with or to it. We bought it, because it was a great deal and had the floorplan we liked. I will start a build restore thread in a few weeks, when we start the tear down.......cant wait!! ;)

It's been fun, but going to the "dark side"

With the failing health of both our moms, we have had to re-think our RVing needs and use. We are trimming down the Scout herd to 1 and will be selling Red and the S&S, hopefully as a set, but we will separate if we need to. We will be keeping the Alpenlite and buying a mid to late 90's non electronic 3/4 ton diesel truck to pull it. With a GVWR of 10K and a max pin weight of 2K a 1 ton dually is a little over kill and I'd like to get the better mpg when unhooked. Next weekend will be the last outing of the pair, then they will go up for sale. Will still be throwing my .02 cents from time to time, and may go TC again in the future. But after the Moms pass we will be traveling back and forth between the kids houses and living full-time in the RV........and the T is just to small for our needs.

RE: Spray on Roofs

Interesting..........The ol' Alpenlite is needing something done to its roof. The PO did a coating on it, but must have prepped it wrong, cause its peeling back off.

RE: Jealous of the turning radius !

I saw one the other day on youtube, it was a large 5th wheel with a huge skinny front bunk area, being pulled with a similar hitch idea on a chevy suburban. Found it Burb 5er

RE: Chalet's TC Washer and Dryer pictures

Awesome concept, but in the real world its made for a single person. 1 chair, no couch, the dinette might work with a flip-n-fold or a "U" shape, like they put in the toy haulers. Probably a bit pricey.

Anyone Know About Landau Moho's

Found this add for a 1973 Landau Motorhome, its kinda like a Travco. Steel framed and full fiberglass body. 25' rear bedroom, Dodge chassis with a 440 and 727 auto trans.

RE: 1968 GMC

What is an S&S?? trying to figure that one out. Or get an older DP Vogue another great RV. An S&S is a 4 season basement Truck Camper, VERY well built units. I like the old Vogue's! http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/Photo04191459small.jpg

RE: 1968 GMC

Yup.....gunna pass on that one, there are a few others around. Think I would do better to sell what I have and buy one out right.

RE: 1968 GMC

I would love to see pics if you can get any. It sounds kinda neat but it would all depend on the condition of the bus and your skills. I've seen your thread on the s&s rebuild and am impressed. Also would depend on what type of camping you have been doing in your truck camper and if going to a full size rv will keep you from going places. Didn't you have a 5th wheel that you sold because it wasn't getting used? I will be interested to see what you do as I have a truck camper and am considering selling it and buying a friends 1977 26ft class A Apollo motorhome. Fiberglass over steel frame plus a newly rebuilt dodge 440...we'll see. Still have the 5th wheel, gunna do some work on it and sell it...............IF we go with a motorhome, haven't decided yet. We have found that where we end up boondocking with the TC for our off-road stuff, a motorhome has no problems getting there. We have also found out that the TC doesn't have enough tank capacities for our needs, great for 3 or 4 days, but that's it.

RE: 1968 GMC

Got some pics today...........from what I can see its like 40% done. Its an ex-school unit. 35' "fishbowl" bus. It looks like the interior really hasn't got much done, but that might be a good thing. The windows have been filled on both sides. I may have to go take a look at it............up close. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130507_004a_zpsa65c66ae.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130507_005a_zpsb59eb5e9.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130507_006_zpscf03d74b.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130507_002_zpsb637bcca.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130507_001_zps3ea6f90d.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130429_003_zpsc1ff3d5c.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130429_004_zps3b97ecd3.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/130429_005_zps78e56291.jpg
