RE: Got enough truck?

My dealer said my truck could easily handle it.

RE: Self adjusting brakes

I also changed to larger, self adjusting units when it was discovered that the previous owner kept adding grease to zerk fitting on the axle and eventually greased all the brake parts - pads, etc...
I love the idea of not having to get under the trailer to manually do it....and the cost difference wasn't huge (between manual and self adjusting)

RE: Another question about the Pullrite Superglide

Mine has always been easy to hitch and unhitch.....I love the positive "click" you hear when you are locked in.
But I'm not sure I'd buy a sliding hitch if I had a long bed truck!

RE: Air Bags

I run PacBrake bags with an in-cab controller.....I actually need it to get in and out of my drive way without scraping the heck out of my 5vr's bumper (even after I removed the stabilizer jacks).

RE: (Scary music: du-DUH! ) JAWS! (but not the movie)

We have a Pulrite Superglide which would (according to your description) have the single-wrap-around-that-must-be-opened first type. I don't have much experience with other hitches - but I can say that this is a very positive engagement when hitching up.....there is no mistaking the sound when you "are in". I like it!

RE: The best investment ever!

Make that two things..... RV registration and prescription medicine..... If you had nice weather in the winter it'd be a perfect place to retire!

RE: Sell as is or repair?

I had the exact same dilemma - except I was quoted up to $5K for a new roof (it was only a 4 year old unit, too!). I ended up trading it in at the dealership for a used 5th wheel. I paid too much for the 5th wheel but I got too much in trade for my TT....in the end the difference in price was within my budget and it worked out. We love the 5th wheel compared to the TT. Naturally, there were additional expenses I had to absorb to get the TV ready....sliding hitch, pac brake, new South Bend Clutch, air bags, new bilstein shocks, etc...
Life is better now in the 5th wheel with a properly prepped TV.....and no leaks!

RE: Change which slide-out opens/closes first...

Like stated above, the smalled, lightest slide will be the first one out and the first one back in. You can shut off the valves to stop the slides from moving at all, but you can't change the order.X2
If you stopped a slide from moving, then you have changed the order.
Actually I would argue that you didn't really change the order, but rather you eliminated one of the selections. The order is still the same: the remaining slides would continue to open in the order smallest to largest and then close in the order smallest to largest.
I suppose you could manually manipulate EACH valve to force a different order......so maybe you are correct....hmmm Is this like going back in time and accidently preventing your grandparents from ever meeting? ;)

RE: The best investment ever!

drats! and I thought you had a money making scheme going to happen to get yourself rich!
Not worried about getting rich- I'm totally covered there. I know a Nigerian Princess who has promised to directly deposit a few million dollars in my bank account - she just needs a little up front money to get some diamonds out of somewhere first. It sounds like a failsafe investment to me! :)

The best investment ever!

I live in North Carolina and we are billed annual "personal property tax" on our vehicles seperately from our annual registration fee. The tax is based on the value of your vehicle. On the bill they print the assessed value of what you are being taxed on.
I just received my 2012 tax bill and was shocked to find out that my 2008 Cedar Creek Silverback is (according to the state) now worth $20,000 MORE than last year! Whoo, hoo! I'm going out to buy ten more of these things. I'll be rich! :) :)
Of course the downside is that they'd like to tax me more money on the higher value....rats. Guess who gets to go spend a few hours in the tax collectors office today trying to clear up this mess.

RE: Hensley TS-3

I mounted an electric hoist (from Northern Tool) in the cieling of my garage. I also mounted extra rails in the cieling to better distribute the weight over 6 beams while it stored long term. I used to use it to remove and store my camper shell by myself. Now I use it to remove and store my 5th wheel hitch and my '72 Corvette hardtop.
In fact I removed the hitch in about 10 minutes and picked up abot 1600 lbs of river rock just this past weekend.

RE: North Carolina weight.

I have live in NC for 10 years. From what I understand - when you register your vehicle (assuming it weighs enough to earn you a "Weighted" license plate - which I think is 6900 lbs?), you are supposed to estimate the weight of the vehicle and the trailer (and/or equipment) you will be hauling. For example if my truck weighed 7500 lbs empy and I regularly haul a 4000 truck camper, I am supposed to put 11,5000 lbs on my registration. Your registration fee will be based on that weight. Should you get pulled over and be hauling more weight than what is printed on your registration - you could be subject to a fine (although I don't think this is common).
It sounds like you now don't need to add the weight of a recreational vehicle to the total weight of what you will be hauling - so that in the above example I could just put 7500 lbs on my registration weight.....is that correct?

RE: Urgent - which folding bike do you recommend?

I also saw a beautiful folding bike the other day at R.E.I. (an outdoor gear shop - you may not have one in your area). The bike was very nice, but pricey.....I want to say in the $500-600 range.

RE: Washing the 5er

Hot water and Dawn are a great way to wash dishes, but not painted surfaces that you'd like to keep wax on!
I use a Blue Corral NanoWax and Wash, Wax-As-You Dry and a chamois. I also use a wash mit, the same extenstion pole as pictured above and a soft small brush for the wheels/tires and undercarraige (if I'm feeling it).
After a rain - there isn't a spot on my rig....and unfortunately it sits outside year-round.

RE: Considering a 2nd roof air

Dang - now I really want a 2nd AC unit!! We went to the S. Carolina coast last year and the temp read 106 in the truck when we arrived. With one AC unit (non-tented) The AC didn't cycle until later that night. I left the fan running for a week straight just to keep the unit from freezing over!

Just missed out!

RATS! I was all giddy becuase I had agreed verbally to purchase a used TrailSaver TS3 hitch for just $550. The person selling it said they coudn't show it to anyone until Monday (yesterday) and I couldn't get a hold of him to get directions....(I left messages, though).
I called him back this morning and it was gone! Rats, rats, rats!
This whole "gotta be at work" thing is really getting in the way of my camping fun! Otherwise I would have driven right over there with cash in hand the first time I talked to him last Thursday.
Oh well....back to work - just had to vent at the missed opportunity!
