RE: Looking for campground on beach in Florida

Emerald Beach RV Park in Navarre just a short distance west of Destin on Hwy 68. Has its own private beach and a mile away is the HUGE public beach of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. They are pure white beautiful sand, clean, safe with lifeguards every 50 yards, rental chairs, umbrellas, restaurant on the beach. You can't go wrong. We stayed there are week this past July.

RE: I-75 in Kentucky Campground

I travel that route frequently when we rv and I usually pull off at one the popular truck stops so family can nap for a while and there is always fuel, nice place to eat and well lit for safety. Then we sometimes stay at the Wal-Marts you can see from the interstate. Lot cheaper than rv parks.

RE: Coast to Coast

Once you join you're in for life and have to pay a membership fee due monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. You do have access to some really nice parks around the country but if you don't travel widely forget it. We've belonged since 1997 and only been to our home park twice.

RE: Anyone used "Undercover Tourist" to purchase Disney tickets?

Have used them a couple of times and they do save money. We were there for a week on both occasions and bought the one park a day package and visited Epcot, Safari, Magic Kingdom, etc. You take the mousesavers newsletter and they will update prices every month so you can compare thiers with other online deals. Mousesavers was the best choice for us: 4 adults and 1 child and we stay at Fort Wilderness in our motorhome. Shop mousesavers and pick the package you want for your family and the number of days/parks you want to visit according to your budget. Good luck. You'll enjoy every minute of it. We're going back soon with our grandson.

RE: Florida Panhandle Beach Camping

We go to WDW and stay at Ft Wilderness frequently but this summer we wanted to do something different. We went to Navarre Florida and stayed at the Emerald Beach RV Park. It has its own private beach and you can also drive about a mile to the Gulf Island National Seashore across a magnificent bridge to huge free public beaches that are as beautiful as I've ever seen. My wife and our grandson went to the beach every day while I played golf. I can't say enough good things about the beaches in this area. PS I rode my bike from the rv park every day across the bridge over to the beach area just for the exercise. It's a good workout if you're into that sort of thing.

RE: Clunker Program - Check My Math

I live in an average size town in southern Kentucky and most all the local dealerships are practically out of new cars. The Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai lots are almost without new models. Only the GM lot has a LOT of cars left. There do seem to be a lot of USED cars on most of these lots however.

RE: How do you know what high mileage is on an RV?

Wow Kirk. I wish I lived close to you when I have MH problems. There is NOBODY and I mean NOBODY near me in southern Kentucky that knows squat about motorhomes (If there are, I can't find them). Especially when it comes to the simplest servicing ie: change oil/lube like that. The local Ford dealership won't touch my E-450 with a 10 ft pole. Their excuse was "Our door is too small to fit your rv into our garage." Last time I checked, all one had to do was crawl under, drain oil change filter and bingo, you're done. That has promted me to become a weekend MH mechanic and I've learned a lot from guys like you on this site that actually care about the rest of us. Thanks for being there.

RE: Knoxville, TN to Destin, Fl ~ Any Route Suggestions

Just made that trip this July. West on I-40 then south on I-75 to Chat. Take I-59 south into Alabama to Birmingham then south on I-65 to Montgomery. Stay south on 65 to Evergreen, Alabama take exit 93 onto Hwy 31 south to Brewton, Alabama. Secondary road but quality travel time. Hwy 31 becomes Hwy 41 and crossing into Fla it becomes Hwy 87 which goes into Milton, Fla. Watch for I-10 east sign in Milton and take I-10 east to exit 56 onto Hwy 85 south. This will bring you into Fort Walton Beach at Hwy 98. Left turn on 98 and 12
miles to Destin. I know this sounds like a lot of turns, country roads and dipsy-do driving but it really isn't. I plugged data into my gps and had a very pleasant trip in our MH. You also avoid the mess in Atlanta and in Tallahassee by taking this route. There are places to refuel all along hwys 31, 41 and 87 and some nice scenery without the interstate hassles. Safe trip...

RE: How do you know what high mileage is on an RV?

Ron Butler is so right. DW and I rented a MH for a couple of seasons to experiment, get used to how to travel in a MH, drive one and how to load what we needed, and finally how everything worked. We then felt we were old timers but we were wrong. We shopped around for some time and ended up with a beautiful MH but we let the salesman influence us a bit too much and purchased a MH larger than we really needed. The extra room is great but with that larger size comes more operating expenses and purchase price. Don't get in a hurry. Stay on here and listen to these people. They will steer you in the right direction.

RE: toilet bowl gasket

Sounds like the same Thetford model we have. We had the same problem with ours. I disassembled the toilet (a couple of screws holding the cover and a hose clamp holding the remaining parts together) and removed the seal, examined and cleaned it. It was printed with something like "This side up." Flipped it over and reassembled. No more leak. That was two years ago. If it starts to leak again I may just flip it back over. It seems the "ball" tends to reshape it leaving a bulge in the seal. By flipping it over it puts the bulge upside down and seals just fine. Just make sure before you reuse it that it is clean and isn't cracked anywhere along the internal edge. That is a useful piece of information. I'm always forgetting to leave water in the bowl and I'll probably have the same problem one of these days. I'm printing this and keeping in my rv repair file. Thanks for the info.

RE: Garmin Nuvi 265WT - What POI's should I load on it?

I have my grandson push the buttons when any of us need or want to make a stop at important POI's like food, fuel, etc. and it works just as fast as pre-entering the data.

RE: Handguns into Canada

Sinterior is correct. Being an American and having travelled to Canada, (I can't wait to go back), is a privelege and not a right. I carried a sidearm legally for many years on the job. Before I made my trip to Toronto, I checked Canadian weapons law for civilian and law enforcement officers visiting Canada and made the right decision. We can all take a lesson from this thread and research the law if we have concerns about visiting another country. I've been to Mexico too but I'll never go back. I may go back to Canada next summer and take my grandson.

RE: Syracuse NY to Fort Wilderness

81 to 95 and hammer down. We made several MH vacation trips with time limitations exactly the same number of days as you. This is the best route if all you want to do is get a little rest going to FW. BTW be sure and go in the old "secret route" mentioned above once you get to Disney.

RE: mice

We have the ultrasonic devices in our garage and home and they do the job. I had mice in my car several years ago. It was parked in our garage and seldom driven so the vermin moved in. I got boxes of D-con and put them on top of each tire. No more mice.

RE: First time buyer

Before doing anything and I mean anything, check everything and I mean everything inside and out especially if you have the expertise. That's an old MH and it may have issues you can't see till you inspect it personally. The first thing I would do is ask to see ALL the maint. records. If the owner has been conscientious about this MH, he will have all kinds of documentation showing he took care of it. DW and I bought our first MH 5 yrs ago without any help and ended up with a really great MH but one a lot BIGGER than we really needed. Of course, the salesman sold us the most expensive MH he could. Buyers must always beware. Good luck. PS We spent a week this July in Navarre and had a wonderful time!!

RE: Oil Change

I have changed oil/filter on my E-450 since new. Only has 24K on it but I change it every 3K. My grandson and I crawl under it with no trouble and can move around to check everything on the undercarriage. Unscrew the oil filter a few turns at a time so the hot oil can drain slowly into your catch-basin and you won't have to worry about splattering your driveway or yourself. Easiest vehicle I've ever owned to work on.

I've had the Garmin for about 3 years and have bought no updates and it gets me everywhere I want to go. Has lots of other info besides maps: restaurants, hotels, etc. Works for me.
