RE: extreme propane usage

A pound of propane yields 21,622 btu's. A 30 lb tank filled to 80% would have 518,928 available. Your furnace, if it is a 20,000 btu unit, would run about 26 hours continuously on a tank. Given that your furnace cycles on and off, you could approximate your usage by determining how long between cycles (how long is it actually running per hour). Also, figure in any other propane users like water heater, stove/oven, refer if on gas. They usually have a usage figure. Stove burners 3000-5000, oven 5000, etc.
The simple answer is figure 3 to 4 days under your conditions.

RE: Fithwheel cook stove

I use the Wedgewood oven all the time. The trick is temperature control. The oven control dial does not agree with the interior oven thermometer. Once you have established the true temperature to the dial setting, the oven works very well. The other thing that happens is waiting for the oven temperature to stabilize. It will bounce usually over the desired temperature and finally settle down and maintain the set temperature. I also use a pizza stone, which evenly distributes the heat and keeps rolls, cakes, and breads from burning the bottom.

RE: How can I fix a Fiberglass stain?

Go to a marine store and ask for FSR Gel (fiberglass stain remover). There is also another brand of the same stuff. I works great to remove fish blood and oil like stains from gelcoat. I have used it for years on boats. It looks like green slime kids use to play with. Brush it on, let it sit a few minutes till the stain is gone, then wash off residue.

RE: Running gas grill from onboard tank - slow output

Bring back the old style tank valves and stop protecting us from ourselves. I got to be this old running with scissors and playing in the street long before child proof caps on containers.

RE: Running gas grill from onboard tank - slow output

The original question was about the Coleman Roadtrip Grill. It does not work well with a bulk tank. Even the owners manual indicates not to use a bulk tank. Still, I tried various start stop, open slow, all kinds of suggestions and it will not handle the bulk tank. I get the same results as the OP in his question. I have concluded the original Coleman regulator can not handle the pressure from a bulk tank, it simply shuts down.
My next attempt is to fabricate a hose from the bulk tank to a aftermarket grill regulator and connect that direct to the Roadtrip Grill, thus bypassing the Coleman regulator. The Coleman regulator does unscrew from the supply pipe. if this does not work, I'm going to a Weber-Q when the Coleman rusts out. Until then I'll be held hostage by the disposable bottles.

RE: Bicycle Carrier

Same here on the Swagman XTC-2. I have had two of them. Gave one to a friend as I didn't need it where I lived for a while next to a 40+ mile bike trail. When I moved further away, I bought another one and use it weekly. They will fit either size receiver. Another friend saw mine and had just purchased one of the racks that hang the bikes on a single pole leaving them to flop around while traveling, and without even using it, returned it and bought a Swagman XTC-2. No I don't work for them, it's just a great product.

RE: Corrosion Preventative Compounds (More Nerd Stuff)

On the Boshield. Used it to prevent corrosion in tail cone of my airplane. Good stuff. Great in salt water environment. Leaves a wax like residue. Another one is Corrosion Block. Perfect on firearms and fishing gear.

RE: camping site

Busch Gardens is more than 20 minutes away. It is about 40 miles and a good hour in no traffic which is very few daylight hours during the work week. Great park, but a long way from Busch.

RE: Water in Diesel

From owning diesel powered boats for many years, water in the fuel is a common problem. It's not always a bad load of fuel, but can be condensation accumulated by going through many hot cold temperature changes. That said, like boats, you have a large amount of fuel to contend with and if any of that water gets through to your injectors, bye bye injector tips.
There is another way to get rid of the water. There are fuel services out there that will "polish" your fuel. They basically circulate your fuel through a series of ever smaller diameter filters, typically Racor filters, and return it to your tank. Check with a marina servicing diesel boats or Google up the service. Having as much water as you are seeing will take you forever to eliminate it by driving and checking your fuel/water separator, although you can do it that way. Just check it frequently and don't wait for the idiot light to tell you that you have water. Good luck.

RE: pull down shade for door

Yep, Reflectix foil, I have one cut for every window and place them in and out to block the sun and heat. Some I used Velcro tabs, others fit the groves in the window trim surround and stay in place just fine.

More info needed. Brand, do you have a city water back flow to fill the tank, are you just filing the tank with a hose, etc.

RE: Price on ac installed

I paid $850 for a Dometic Penguin 13,500btu installed. I was pre wired for the second air so install was as simple as removing existing vent and dropping AC in, bolt it down, attach the wires, screw on the inside air box, and turn it on. No dual zone or remote thermostat to deal with either.

RE: black bugs inside, very small

I too have just recently been infested with the sewer gnats. They are the tiny flying bugs that are not only in the bathroom, but soon decide to explore the rest of your rv. Two weeks ago I began to notice them, a few at first then enough to irritate you when you're just sitting around.
I set off two Raid bombs and closed the RV up for a week. I can't imagine anything would live through it. But, after returning and using the rv a few days they were back. This time I noticed them being more prevalent in and around the toilet. I dumped about a quart of Spectracide insecticide down the toilet and waited a day or so. Returning this weekend to the RV, and they are gone.
For good measure I dumped insecticide down both grey tanks and again the black tank. I thing I got them all, but we'll see a week from Friday.

Now that you have purchased a Montana, it's a good time to join the MOC Montana Owners Club. It's free and with thousands of owners comes plenty of information about your new unit.
