RE: Dumb Question re: outlets

Thanks for the quick response :) So if we stop at a rest area or Wally World for the night I guess I'm out of luck to make coffee in the morning lol I prefer using an old fashioned percolator, but Coleman does make a drip maker that sits on your gas stovetop - we have one and it works well.

RE: Lacrosse or Sprinter?

Don't know much about the lacrosse (but it sure looks pretty!). We have the Sprinter 300KBS 2009, and we LOVE it!! It was our first foray into TT land and we have zero regrets. Other than the microwave zapping out in the second year, we've had no issues at all. The front kitchen is glorious with all it's counter space, cupboard space, and functionality - couldn't ask for a better set up. The huge king bedroom is really well thought out, and has plenty of storage space for lengthy trips, as well as the vacuum cleaner and other supplies I like to keep indoors. The extra door is great for when we have overnight guests, allowing them to truly have their privacy as we have ours too. The bathroom is clever too, again allowing for private access from either the bedroom or the living area for when we have overnight guests - plus I really like the private "loo room". :) The fact that pretty much every space can be fully accessed even when travelling and the slides are retracted is pretty handy - had to park it at Walmart overnight once, and they didn't want us extending slides - no worries... EVERYTHING could be accessed... bed, fridge, stove, bathroom. ;) As you can tell, I'm a fan of the 300KBS... the things I would want changed are things that have been adapted in the newer versions, including more lino from the entrance to the kitchen, and the enclosed propane tank area at the front. If knew how to post pics of mine, I could show you the decor... it's very tasteful and not that "cheapo barn look" :) Regardless of which brand and model you go with, you're likely to find people who are pro or con, so keep researching and eventually go with the one that appeals most to you. Good luck and happy camping!

RE: Rear Kitchens

I never even considered the extra "bounce" a rear kitchen would get... but in theory I guess it makes sense. When we bought ours (it's a full front kitchen, and we LOVE it! model in signature), we were also looking at a couple of models with rear kitchens too and almost got one by Jayco. All we knew for sure is that we did NOT want a "mid-kitchen"... they NEVER seem to have enough counter space or storage space.

RE: Travel Trailer too big/long for driveway

Couple solution.. Smaller trailer (one that fits on driveway), or deal with transporting stuff. I also will be moving to a new house that doesn't have room for me to load/unload out front. My solution will be to install a solar panel system, so battery and fridge are ready for use (in storage lot), and just park at a nearby park. That's really my only option at this point. As far as water, I will be filling at the CG's. Although most of the CG's we stay at right now are full service. And YES.. we really do love camping that much to deal with all fuss.. "And YES.. we really do love camping that much to deal with all fuss.." :)US TOO!!

RE: Travel Trailer too big/long for driveway

Hey folks... let's keep in mind here that the OP is asking for suggestions in reference to handling the issues associated with storing the TT away from his primary residence - in Calgary it's VERY rare to get a place that will accomodate a larger unit like his... we know this from experience. Telling him you'd only buy a house that will accomodate your RV isn't much help, but offering ideas on how to make his adjustment to off-site RV storage is helpful. Let's keep our eye on the ball here. Just sayin'...

RE: Travel Trailer too big/long for driveway

Welcome to the forum! We're in Calgary as well and also have the same issue that you have - we're in a cul-de-sac in Royal Oak (NW) and have to park the TT out at CWC (the old KOA next to COP) Enough acronyms for ya?? HAHA! Anyway, it's about 20 minutes away and it works out quite well for us - we usually go pick it up a night or two before each trip and park it, still attached to the truck but hitch locked, on the road along the field at the end of our 'sac. Calgary allows RVs to be parked on the street up to 36 hours without citation. This gives us time to load up what we need and then pull out of town on the morning we're camping. We generally fill up on potable water when we get to wherever we're going (Mount Kidd, Beaver Mines, etc.) Most campgrounds have potable water fill-up as well as dumping stations... but a few only have the potable water. In that case, we dump at CWC, or at the Co-op in Pinchercreek when we camp down that way. Ours is a bigger unit too (technically 30'... but 34' bumper to hitch), but on a couple of occasions we've even backed it into our cul-de-sac (we have a key-hole crescent style with the big grass median running down the centre for extra car parking) and filled up on water right there - but hubby prefers to fill-up on water nearer our destination. We bring home the battery and put it on the trickle charger between trips if it's a long time, otherwise it re-charges nicely on the truck on the way out to camping. Happy Camping!! :)

RE: Power tongue jack --Why ?

We had a manual crank for the first 3 seasons with our TT, and I didn't mind using that (and I am the wife!!:B), but then my hubby bought the electric jack last summer, and what a big difference! Not to the actual process... I honestly didn't mind that... but what a big difference to the height (and lowness) we can acheive with the electric over the manual jack! We sometimes end up in sites that have a bit of a slope, and that electric jack allows us to properly level everytime without worrying about digging a hole or adding tons of blocks.

RE: Trailer with side bed slide AND L.R. slideunder 29' ?

Sounds like you're looking for our unit! :) However, it's 30 feet. BUT... it's incredible!! I'm never sure how to post pics and the link, but go to the KeystoneRV website and look at the Keystone Sprinter 300KBS - it's everything we ever wanted in a TT... full king bed slide (Storage space coming out the wazzoo!), superslide for the couch and dining areas, MASSIVE front kitchen (again, storage space AND counter space galore!!) We've had ours for 3 years now (bought new) and I can't think of anything we'd change. The only issue we had was our microwave crapped out last year, but we bought a new one for $60 at Walmart and installed that. Goodluck! Celine

RE: Mice

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever found that putting traps baited with peanut butter or other food actually attracted mice to your RV? Just wondering because I don't have a rodent problem but the class c next to me in my storage garage has had mice. I'd hate to give them a reason to come in mine. And that's how you can continue to be mouse-free: spread a little peanut butter on the other guy's axles :B Just kidding... we've not had any issues yet in 3 years of owning ours(touch wood) and we don't use any preventative measures other than to NEVER leave food in the RV during storage periods.

RE: Master bedroom/bed size questions

My husband had the same concerns when we went TT shopping - so many models out there are the short beds... so we ended up buying the Keystone Sprinter 300kbs - full king slide out walkaround bed - LOVE IT!! Don't know how to add a link, but if you look it up, you can see the floor plan and see what I mean. The bonus to this model is that it also has the huge front kitchen - full width of the trailer with oodles of storage space and counter space. Goodluck TT shopping!!

RE: Wife's first setup on her own, am I forgetting anything?

In the real world your wife wont have to lift a finger. Just drive up and get out of the truck and just stand there. There will be ten guys there in a heart beat offering their help... Haha, this is awesome. I'll tell her to make sure she does her hair before she leaves. :) Where is she camping next weekend? Mount Kidd by chance?

RE: How Many Seniors are Out There Rving?

I am currently at a campout with fourteen LoW's (Loners on Wheels) and if everyone under 65 left, there would not be anyone here. Some are over 75 and they are making plans to head for Calgary next month. We'll be here to welcome them!! Amazing how many people make their way up here for the Calgary Stampede :) But be sure to tell them to make their reservations ASAP if they haven't already. The best place is right on the edge of the city - the old KOA off 16th ave... but it's called CWC now (Calgary West Campground). We store our TT there during the winter months, and they're a good place to be, easy access to everything and even a shuttle bus that runs to major attractions in our city. Happy RV'ing everyone!!
