RE: smallest pusher

Although I am unable to back-up what I'm saying with authority, I recently read on another forum that Tiffin is going to begin building a 27' RED in its Allegro Open Road series of pushers. It will have a 300hp Cummins engine on a Powerglide chassis. These are scheduled to build in 2010. As always, oRV

RE: Patio Rugs

I truly like Presto-Fit products. . . we also have the patio mat that repels moisture and lets air through it so that the grass isn't damaged. We've had several over the years and like them significantly better than the "grass" carpet mats. I do believe that with some research on the web you'll be able to do quite a bit better on the price. RE: Banks exhaust manifold headers for Ford 6.8L

I have a 2001 Allegro Bay with the Ford F53 chassis and the V-10 engine. The full Banks system was installed and we couldn't be happier with it. We are full-timers, traveling from coast to coast and everywhere in between. The Bank's power and reliability has been worth far more than the original price. There has also been a small increase in fuel economy. The deep, throaty sound isn't bad either. As always, oRV

RE: Need highway info

The bridge is fine, you won't have any trouble with yourself and another car in passing. . . should a semi be approaching from the opposit direction, you'll need to wait and let him pass is possible. . . its too tight for comfort with two large vehicles on the bridge at one time. As always, oRV

RE: Entry Level Motorhomes

Ed, your Coachman is more than adequate for your needs if it suits your needs. If you get my point. . . I'd be embarassed to be full-timing in a million-dollar motorhome if my children or grandchildren were going hungry. My beloved wife and I currently full-time in our 2001 Allegro Bay 36DB on a Ford F53 chassis. Is this the most expensive rig on the road. . . of course not. It does, however, meet our needs. We are safe, comfortable and well-served by our living circumstances. You can be as well. Don't look over the back-yard fence. . . enjoy your new Coachman! As always, oRV

RE: valve core issues

BRUCE: We really need a bit more information: tell us a bit about your tires, how old they are, what size and their proper prsssure. Most importantly. . . are you using extenders? Again, are the stems brass or stainless steel? If not, they need to be examined by a professional tire shop. We can fix this. . . let us help. . . as always, oRV

RE: expensive "piece of mind"

Much, much better to find out now, rather than have your transmission burn out on the highway due to lack of fluid. Your bill does sound about a hundred bucks or so high for the job done, but if you can't do it yourself, then I'd certainly rather have a RV shop fix items it knows are bad rather than go into some thoe filled with "automatons" who just do the very minimum to get by. RE: Fresh water tank

Hi. . . I use a shortened length of white hose and a funnel. This works for me, but I know that some people use an old gallon jug of H2O with their concentration of "freshener" in it with a siphon. Different strokes for different folks. By the way. . . I use 1/4 cup of Chlorex for each gallon capacity in my fresh water tank. I then fill the tank, drive around a while to circulate the mix. I then let the solution sit overnight, dump it the next day and re-fill and drain until there is no longer any bleach smell. Don't forget to open your fresh water spickets in the house in order to sanitize them too. Hope to have helped. . . as always, oRV

RE: I Have a Question about tires.

I would strongly advise you to go with the tires rated for your motor home from the factory. If you downsize the weight rating from G to E you will lose some of your CCC capability and have to run your tires at a higher air pressure. . . thereby making the already rough-riding Ford F53 chassis ride even rougher. I too have a F53 2000 model and am satisfied running Goodyear G670 motorhome rated tires 245/70/19.5 Gs. I just installed Bilstiens all around and am now a happy camper. . . although broke. Oh well, as always, oRV

RE: Letter from Country Coach

They had one veranda unit at The Rally in Albuquerque this week
I can hardly believe it. . . they've been dragging that veranda model around from show to show for a year now. I climbed all over it at last year's Escapade in Gilette, WY. I don't think that they've been able to seel any of them yet. As always, oRV

RE: hitch ratings??? (ADDITIONAL info)

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a world renowned expert on this subject. . . but I'm afraid it has little to do with which engine you have. In fact, your diesel is quite adequate to pull 10,000lb. The problems lie first in the hitch rating you have: manufacturers of motorhomes install class IV or even sometimes even III hitches on your type vehicle. Class III hitches are only good for 3,500lb. Class IV hitches are good for 5,000lb. Class V hitches are good for up to 10,000lb. These hitches are welded to your chasses. . . which must be properly designed for the wieght of whatever hitch you have. Herein are the questions you must answer. What class of hitch do you have; is your chassis rated for the weight you desire to tow? These things can be complicated. . . what is it that you desire to tow? Hope to help. . . as always, oRV

RE: Bilstien////Koni??????

On my 2001 Allegro Bay with F-53 chassis I've replaced the OEMs with Bilsteins. I only put them on this past weekend. . . but did have them for years on my presvious MH. By the way, Camping World wanted $469 for a set of four, I purchased from Shox, in California for $ 339. . . a huge savings. The fronts were a bear to get torqued down. . . I'll let everybody know how I like the in a couple of week after we've broken them in. As always, oRV

RE: bakersfield,ca to las vegas,nv

MARLEY: Bakersfield to Las Vegas: Leave Bakersfield on State Route (SR) 58, go East on this well traveled two and four lane road until you reach Barstow and follow the signs to I-15 north. Follow I-15 through Barstow, Baker, over Mountain Springs pass to the State Line and on to Vegas. I-15 is an excellent road. . . however, it is heavily traveled. From about noon Friday until the weee hours of Saturday morning I-15 is BUSY. I driven it during these hours and found the freeway bumper to bumper, just crawling along. The same applies on your return trip. . . from about 10 AM Sunday until early evening, the interstate is quite crowded from Vegas on. Should you choose to go from Vegas to Flagstaff, I'd take US HWY 93 to I-40 East to Flagstaff. This is all good road, except that there is quite a climb from Kingman to Flagstaff. Its also possible to leave Vegas on HWY 95 and go to Kingman, but this road goes over Hoover Dam. There is current a lot of construction on this route as well as tourist traffic. I you're merely traveling. . . I'd certainly choose HWY 95. Hope to have helped, as always, oRV

RE: moisture and water on inside windows

Interior moisture is the bane of motorhomers: they are simply built to tight that there's not place for the moisture from our breath, cooking and bathing to go. Try leaving a Fantastic Vent open a crack and possible using a desicant (available from hardware stores or even Wally World). Either this, or try stopping breathing, cooking and bathing! Oh well, as always, oRV

RE: when should I replace ball joints on my F53 ?

My 2001 Allegro Bay on the Ford F53 chassis rides, well, as well as I believe that it can. My air pressure reads 90 lb on the rears and 95 lb on the fronts. To smooth out the tendency to wander on the road I installed Air Lifts on all four wheels. . . they help. The chassis still rides a bit rough, but well, it isn't exactly a Prevost. . . what can I say.
