RE: Is entry level bad? Any one have a keystone summerland?

As fordsooperdooty said, don't get in a rush. Shop around, check the different manufactures on-line. Check out the floorplans, try to imagine how the features and floorplans meet the needs of you and your family. Go to the dealers and look at the ones that seem promising. Check out the beds and sleeping arrangements, is there enough room in the bathroom, do you need a slide-out? Will you travel enough where you stop in route and need access to the bathroom, fridge or bed? If yes, and you have a slide-out, can you access those areas with the slide in. Check out the fit and finish of the various makes and models as you look. We shopped for over 2 years. We feel we found a TT that met our needs. Most of us need to get it as right as possible, would be expensive if you don't and want to trade TT's after a few months. A seemingly good price isn't so good if the TT doesn't meet your needs and lifestyle.

RE: What is the most useful cooking implement in the RV?

For me it's my Lodge cast iron skillet. Can use on the stove inside or the Coleman 2 burner stove outside.

RE: Water puddling on slide topper

I took a water noodle (beach toy) and cut it to fit under the edges of the topper. They provide enough lift to the topper to allow the water to drain off. On occasions when I haven't used the water noodles, I just retract the slide-out and force the water off.

RE: Day/Night folding shades

DON'T LOOK ETHEL!!! It was too late, she'd done been mooned!!!:E Sorry, I couldn't help myself.:B
:E Our 2005 Jayco Eagle came with the Day/Night shades. They do a good job of providing privacy with the night shade pulled down. Sounds like Jayco has cut a few corners since we got our TT.

RE: $$$ for checking on your house???

We have always taken care of the neighbors and their pets and they do the same for us. As others have mentioned, a small gift is sometimes given, but not required. Kinda depends on the duration of the assistance and other factors that might arise.

RE: electric heaters

I bought a Lasko Ceramic Tower heater from Sam's ($50.00) over the weekend. It kept the TT nice and comfortable Saturday night. Didn't hear the central heat kick on at all during the night. Friday night (which wasn't as cold as Saturday night), the central heat came on numerous times. The Lasko has a thermostat and remote control.

RE: camping with paper plates or not?

Like most, we use paper and real plates. We have 4 place settings of the enameled plates from our early days of camping. We also have a couple of plastic plates. We have real flatware. Real ceramic coffee cups. We use whatever is appropriate for the meal at hand.

RE: Anything RV, Everything Affinity

I think for the most part JJBIRISH is right on target. Personally, I like CW. I try to support my local RV Dealer/Repair place, but CW has a lot of things in stock that my local guy doesn't. Prices .... sometimes my local guy is better, sometimes CW is better. However, the local guy does my repairs that are beyond my capabilities. Would I use CW for repairs ... if I wasn't near home I'd consider them. Affinity provides the forums under a couple different names. I certainly benefit from the forums. Without Affinity do you think anybody else would step-up and provide this service? Excess mail from Good Sam, try opting out (I learned about that here). Most of us like to have choices when buying goods or services. The Wal-Marts around here seem to be carrying less RV stuff, but I still check them out. I'm glad I have a couple of local options and a CW with 50 miles. CW is like a lot of retailers with multiple locations, some are better than others.

RE: Locking up valuables while camping

(only on the rarest of occasions do the cops even care, but some times they actually catch a couple of them) - unfortunate, but it will only get worse in the future in my opinion - the thiefs of course, are now the victims
That's quite an indictment and an unfair stereotype. I've been on both sides of this type of incident. I've been burglarized, and I work for a police department. There are a lot of dedicated individuals that really do care. Their case load and demands on their time are heavy, and they may not be able to catch every dirt bag thief, but most of the cops I know are doing a thankless job because it's the right thing to do, not for a power trip or just for the pay check.
Glen
Attaway Glen! DS was a police officer until recently, definitely not the job for most folks. Back to the OP's question ..... never had anything stolen. But , we do lock the TT when away, also lock up the bicycles and sometimes the canoes, especially if they've been unloaded and are on the ground. When on the rack on the truck, it would be a chore for somebody to off load the canoes. Usually, if we are going to be gone, I move things to less visible places (off the table, under the TT, etc.). It's not that I don't trust my fellow campers ..... but, I spent 30 + years in the criminal justice system and I try to remove/lessen temptation.

RE: 50 amp to 30 amp adapter?

Hang on to the adapter. As someone previously stated you never know when you might need it. There is one RV park we go to that only has 50 amp service and no RV supply places nearby. I would hate to be new to that park and have to fight rush hour traffic to get to a Wal-Mart or Camping World for an adapter. And as someone else mentioned a camping site with a faulty 30 amp source might have a good 50 amp connection.

RE: Put hole in trailer

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not the only one who has done that. My TT has Diamond Plate where I put the hole, so I patched it with something called Liquid Weld. You have to look close to notice where I patched it. Since yours is fiberglass, I would think you could patch it without too much trouble.

RE: Can Our Bumper Handle Bikes?

Check your owners manual. My manual states my bumper is only rated to handle 100 lbs. From reading previous post on the forum, many folks indicated that theirs also were limited to 100 lbs.

RE: Using your onboard shower??

Normally we use the shower in the TT. That was one of the main reasons we bought a TT was because DW didn't want to have to use the CG shower or facilities. So 98% of the time we use the shower in the TT. On a few occasions, such as the grandkids, or too many other folks we direct all except DW to CG shower. I also use the CG shower if and when I want a longer shower after a day of biking, hiking or canoeing. We bought it to enjoy ourselves, so we also cook inside, however, I still like doing breakfast outside. So, what ever melts your butter!

RE: How often is your trailer in for work

Mine has only been to a dealer for work on one occasion. Had several repair issues to get fixed and a couple of mods and some normal stuff (lube wheel bearings, etc) . Did it all in one trip. Local dealer/repair facility not where I purchased the TT from.

RE: RESOLVED!!! Bad dealing with AdventureRV.net

If somebody was monitoring the Forum from the company, it wouldn't be hard to figure who purchased the jack. Profile on the Forum said he lives in Bentonville, AR. With computerized records, it wouldn't take much to find a jack sale for Bentonville, Arkansas. Bet there wasn't many jacks sold by the company in a recent time period for Bentonville.

RE: Best chopper / processor?

Like Merrykalia we have one of the mini choppers (ours is a Black and Decker) from Wal-Mart. It does a good job for our needs while camping. It's small, light weight and inexpensive (I think we paid about $10).

The guy needs to drink Kronenburg beer to teach the dog to bark in French .... don't know about Russian, unless it's vodka .... but, that makes people howl at the moon.
