RE: When to use water pressure regulator on fiver?

Nice everyone has a sense of humor!
Actually it was a good analogy!.:C
The cheapie ($10 variety) are *NOT* regulators - they're simply "restrictors" - and no surgery (or?) will help improve flow..:W

RE: When to use water pressure regulator on fiver?

Don't use one and havn't for some time now. I stay in larger parks and doubt they have a major problem with pressure or they would not be in business. Many of these leaks and blow outs are weak spots in the RV, not because there was excessive pressure. Maybe someday I will find that park with 80 psi of pressure and will spring a leak and start using one,,,,maybe.....
Burst hoses or plumbing "mishaps' (leaks) aren't bad if/when thery're outside.
Inside is a whole different "maybe" story!.:S
Spent 30 years checking lots of city water pressure as part of my job.
Eighty (80) psi is "standard" throughout the city where I worked - including at the two campgrounds there.
If it's regulated (reduced) *at* the campground, great.
If not - or their regulator fails - you get what they get..:@
Some areas of Los Angeles County CA receive 100 psi on the main along PCH. Maybe the same main for campground in Malibu - maybe not.
Your dice to roll..:C

RE: dual pane windows & weight

Our first 5th wheel had them. This one does not. I notice no difference. We decided to save on the cost and the weight and glad we did. By the way, when they fog up it is expensive to have them replaced.
7 years....no "fogging up", no condensate, no repairs, no issues. Again, I've had both, if nothing else, there IS a difference in noise coming out of my 5er being dampened and noise coming from outside in is dampened to some extent...
oh, and as far as paying extra....I purchased my 06' 5er brand new off the lot late 07', unit was discounted substantially...don't feel I was charged "that much" for the dual pane windows....if anything at all for that matter
Ditto what NC hauler said (above) - 7 years also.
Have also had both - would never "go back".
If you (the OP) are worried about weight - don't put so much 'treasure' in your storage compts!.:C
The added cost (ordered trailer) was very minimal - negotiate!.:S

RE: We are Coming to the "Dark Side"

I don't get it what is the dark side?
Usually the *Dark Side* folks are those that tow very heavy 5ers with tandem or singled HDTs.
Some double tow.
(and can be found on the Escapees HDT forum)
Think the OP adopted the term to fit his own combination..:?

RE: air bags strictly for comfort

TW and F'ver sit level with no add on's. I am strictly looking for comfort measures as my DW has some neck back issues from time to time. We added the MOR Ryde pin box which helped alot. But I wondered if there was either a schock or air bags that would help improve the ride during towing. Part of my issue is this is also my daily vechile and i don't want to stiffen the ride for daily driving.
Check out *REAL* air ride SEATS (not just "cushions").
You can find several folks (with bad backs, etc) on various diesel (pickup) truck forums who have gone that route and are very pleased with the results.
Air bags for the tow vehicle suspension won't improve ride *quality*.
For the poster that thinks a truck can't ride like a Caddy - take a ride in a modern HDT with air bags for the *cab* along with air ride seats.
OTR truckers *require* comfort.
Won't ride like a Caddy - rides like a BENZ!.:W

RE: Impact wrenches

I use this one and it flat gets work done. It breaks the 22.5's lose no problem. Now it is spendy but I don't leave home without it.snap on
..
"Spendy" ?? . YIKES !!.:E
Here's a whole bunch of folks with "serious" wheels (incl lots of 22.5's) and a great solution for breaking lugs torqued to 500# with one hand, no breaker bar, no expensive impact and/or batteries (that you forgot to charge) or compressor required - - and it's way, -WAY- *LESS* $$$ .........
*Torque Multipliers* - discussion starts at post #12
Here's the YouTube Video referenced in that thread -
Torque Multiplier Video
Even more TM options for less $$ on Ebay.
BTW - for eagle eyed viewers - the lugs the guy in the video is unsuccessfully attempting to break with the long breaker bar - are reverse thread.

RE: China Bombs Got Me

At the Atlanta RV show this spring, I had a conversation with both a Keystone and Forest River rep concerning tires, and they both told me the same thing. Both said that they couldn't get a tire manufacturer(GoodYear, Michelin etc.) to guarantee them a certain number of tires each year due to the number of rigs they build. They stated that they wanted an OEM name brand tire, but that couldn't be done due to no tire company wanting to commit to that large number of tires. I still think that may be a load of crap, but they will charge you an upgrade fee and put on whatever tire you want if you order it that way. I call BS. I still think they buy what covers the weight at the cheapest price, which we all know what type tires those are.
Your *last sentence* is correct!.:)
When I was upgrading to Michelin XPS Ribs, I had a lengthy chat with a Jayco Tech rep a few years ago regarding the ST GY "balloons" it came equipped with.
He admitted *exactly* what you state (the req's are put out to bid).
~
BTW - Smoke screen alert!.:R
I see FE has added "a new post" to his sig so it appears as a link in all his previous posts!
FE - Honesty is the best policy!
Just "new post" the number of ST tires *YOU* have admitted to having gone through in your "new post"..:W

RE: Funny Town Names?

Every time I hear "Fly Over States" by Jason Aldean, one specific line always stands out to me. "Miles and miles of back roads and highways, connecting little towns with funny names."
What are some funny town names you have heard or come across in your travels?
Haven't been there or heard of all of these - but here they are:

RE: Double pulling

OK... lets clarify. These type of posts regarding towing multiple units seem to have misconceptions. First, tow vehicle(truck), trailer(first tow), trailer(second tow)equals DOUBLE TOWING. Add another trailer(third tow) equals TRIPLE TOWING.
I have seen a number of RVs DOUBLE TOWING, never saw one TRIPLE TOWING. I have only been full time since since 1996, so I may have missed one. Some seem to add the tow vehicle as being "towed".
Jim
What about the three vehicles being pulled in the first post in THIS THREAD
Like the thread title: "Think he got a ticket?"
Ans - not only a ticket - also a "Park It & Un-hitch - NOW!"
(If it moves it will get several tows - all to the impound yard)
~
Woodalls is full of baloney (balogna)..:S
*DOUBLE Tow* is a tow vehicle - towing *TWO* trailers.
Other than special permits for extreme loads (size, length, etc.) which only may use the roads at specified times, with lots of escorts.....
The only legal *TRIPLE* Tow is *COMMERCIAL* - and limited to interstate highways in states where it is permitted.
Usually night time only.
Tow whatever you want on private property.
Now if you're in Australia.... a Triple Tow would be small time.
Don't bother with terms like Quad Tow or a Quint Tow - - just "Road Train"!.:W

RE: Waste water question

The Bear has it.
Cheap & E-Z.
You can easily find a sewer drain elbow - (goes into the park's sewer drain at ground level)- with a garden hose connection in addition to the 3" sewer line connection.
Run garden hose from the kitchen drain (you may have to get a cap with a garden hose connection) to the sewer elbow.
BTW - make sure you use an appropriate color (*no* white) for your garden hose drain line so it won't *ever* be used as a fresh water hose.

RE: Attacked in my sleep!!!!

You might think these rare or unusual stories
until you've spent a few years sleeping with a bunch of firefighters in dorms
or open-bay military barracks!
F/Fs - (not included in intentional "pranks")
Worked with a guy who sleepwalked.
You would feel this "presence" at the foot of your bed - and there would be George standing there sound asleep.
Another guy thought there were potato bugs in his bed.
He would beat the heck out of the bed!
(He had the same dreams at home with his wife - she would have to clear out in a hurry).
Another would cuss a blue streak in the middle of the night.
Some poor guy coming back after using the restroom thought he was being cussed out for waking the sleeper.
Had a dream one night in a FS, that I was under a ceiling fan that was falling from the ceiling - and about to fall on my head ....woke up to a guy yelling, "Look out for the fan blades"!
Military barracks:
Two rows of beds the length of the barracks, walkway down the middle between the two rows.
Alternate head and foot from one bed to the next.
One head towards the wall - next would be head towards the center of the barrack - towards the middle walkway.
One night somebody woke up to a guy sleepwalking and "relieving himself" in the walkway between the two rows of beds.
No more alternating head & foot - everybody slept head towards the wall after that.

The OP did say his Parents had a Sidewinder and he thought it looked like any hitch wood work with it. Most hitches will work with it but you need to install the right wedge on the sidewinder to work on your hitch.
Shows the importance of clearly stating all the details of the question!
OP: Why bother to ask - if you don't return for the answer/s and clarification of the question?

RE: Finding Past Owner

I think I'd be a LOT MADDER of the DMV gave out my personal information than I would be if the dealer did so. I'd be taking legal action if the DMV gave it out.
in some states vehicle registration data is public information or at least it used to be. I retired from 9-1-1 back in '05 and while we were not permitted to provide civilians with VIN or license plate data here in Illinois we did have an address for the state Secretary of State's office in springfield that would provide registration data to civilians for a small fee.
See post w/info prior to yours.
FEDERAL Statute: Driver's Privacy Protection Act - 1994
Provides / describes criteria for release of info by state DMVs.
Unless the state of IL is prepared to incur liability ("legal action") for release of information .... what "used to be" - probably - *isn't anymore"!:W
Of course - a few IL officials have been known to flaunt the law, huh?

RE: Finding Past Owner

You might try the DMV.
I have gotten 'current' owner info from them before.
I believe they consider it public info.
I just had to sign a form saying I was not using the info for anything sinister.
Not "public info"..:(
And - a Violation of Federal law - after 1994.
That used to be possible in CA.
Anyone could go to the DMV, fill out a form, pay a couple of bucks - and a couple of weeks later the info would be in your mailbox - -
*until* the brutal attempted murder of actress Theresa Saldana - due to easily accessible DMV records by a stalker..:(
Following the story, another stalker used the same technique to murder actress Rebecca Schaeffer with a gunshot to her chest in the doorway of her home..:(.:(
That resulted in a change in California *AND* Federal laws.
Since then - even cops can't do a "general" (non-specific) DMV address query without good reason and at least one/some of the "5-Ws" - who, what, when, where, why - info for the request.

RE: What method do you use to jack up your 5er or trailer?

IMO - lift the trailer by the frame - as the majority of axle manufactures and trailer mfgrs recommend.
Bottle jack on either side of the two wheels to be raised off the ground.
Sure - you can accomplish the same with the "roll-up" technique,
or the bottle jack under the axle below the spring shackle U-bolts.
*YOU* decide on the technique you prefer - remember.....
all those X-2s and X-3s aren't gong to pay for any repairs if *you* cause damage.
Nor do they (or me) know your mechanical ability.
YMMV..:W
