RE: What do you use to stabilize when parked?

You have used the right word in title "stabilize". Not jack up for repairs or storage just to stabilize. Some trailers have them welded on. Our didn't you see got these

RE: Sealing strip coming off RV

Vinyl insert is coming off? The corners or where it goes over something was the weak point on ours. After glue and new insert, OK for couple years, then same old problem. After seeing what others did, I put little screws thru vinyl insert into its frame (to hold better). Not entirely happy, but problem solved. On straight runs no problems it stays in place, corners is where I had my problems. They come in different length rolls.
http://www.campingworld.com/search/index.cfm?Ntt=vinyl+insert&N=0&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=primary&Nty=1&Ntpc=1&Ns=p_sort_default And I think somewhere I saw some with the words "heavy duty", but my size so didn't check out further. Hope this helps.

RE: Need help with hood locks - pictures included

http://www.jrproducts.com/index.php?C=Hardware&P=Locks+and+Accessories&S=Compartment+Locks Also I found out after 3 trips the length is the critical measurement and that length measurement is from the very end of threaded part to the end where screw holds in the flapper swing arm thingy. Best if you could bring old with you to match up when you buy. If still no luck search "compartment lock".
Anyway here is web page with links of who sells them for jr products.
P.S. They are not the strongest thing and wonder why they didn't give way many years ago.

RE: Fort Jackson SC

see http://www.fortjacksonmwr.com/weston/ but your son will have to sponsor you, which could be a trick being he his having all the fun right now. Maybe call the contact in above link and ask how do they handle your type of visitor. Half way down on link page is their travel camp. And getting on base using the "right" gate would also be a question. Just a thought, Your son might not want anything to do with the base and wants out of there?
The last thing I had in mind after graduation was staying on base!
Also see http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/milcamps/50-south-carolina/169-weston-lake-recreation-area-and-rv-park

RE: Rubber roof pulled out from side...

Just my opinion. Probably and hopefully it just came out from bad job of installing it in the first place. You won't know full story until you take off the vinyl insert and loosen a few screws and can see what is really going on. Doesn't look to bad from pic. If that is the case(as I suspect)be sure to do a good walk around looking for any other places where a little roof material is coming loose.
IF you have wood frame rv. When you remove the screws pay close attention to them. Some rust might be on them. Don't be that concerned with rust color is on screw, but if soft wood comes out with the screw matted into the threads you might be in for a bigger job than a quick tuck roof material back under and screw back down. When putting screws back in; If screw hole is to big for screw to go back in with tightness, DON'T get a bigger screw, start same size screw and put a round (not flat)tooth pick in hole, to tighten up. If you have aulm frame, be thankful that wood rot won't be effecting your frame, but alum is a lot harder to fully check out for other damage. If you really feel entergic, put some clear fingernail polish around screws, let dry and thread vinyl insert back on, and call it done. It might have some glue, or could be stapled maybe over a little felt looking strip. If glued replace the glue the best you can. Q-tips might help in tight spots. Some have a type of foam. Yours doesn't look rounded, so I don't think you have any or very little foam. If you do when you reapply glue make sure it is compataible with the foam you have. Bottom line is; You'll just have to see what's up there and what is going on when you get a few screws out. Recommended brand of caulking tape for behind insert if you have to remove or pull back some of it, is "tacky tape" written right on inside of roll.
You hopefully have a quick fix. That's how I'd do it by what I'm seeing in pic. You could postpone it for several years with enturnabond tape, but you know what is happening underneath and it is just postponing the proper fix. And it is not going to get better with time. Some could slap on some tape, others would remove and check out. Depends on you.

RE: how to clean carpeted ceiling?

We used one of these things, it comes with a hand wand. Took many times cleaning and at a weird angle of cleaning but finally got stains off. Used their rug shampoo in hand wand.
http://www.bissell.com/little-green-deep-cleaner/?gclid=CIHp9qbEobcCFWXZQgod_EQABA
And also see, has mention about ceiling carpet.
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26224602/gotomsg/26224673.cfm#26224673
Also comes in handy cleaning other stuff around house, chairs, sofa and headrests in cars, etc. Ours is an older design but works good. Used to be called "green machine"

Mine was under the floor board under drivers seat. Little trap door that lifted up and master cyl was under it. Just mine, yours might be different. But don't remember if it was 89 or 87 but around that year.

Mine doesn't have any either, for about 6 years now. Had to take it off to fix leak (tighten connection). Makes it easy to inspect for leaks. Haven't noticed any difference in propane usage and easy to inspect.

RE: What's in your tool box?

I carry only the basic hand tools but have found another tool that turned out to be very valuable. An online service that is something like $25 or 30 a year. Has already paid for itself. I had a mess going with my M/H. Couldn't get rid of a misfire. Doing research I found http://www.alldatadiy.com/index.html Dealer wanted $1,200.00. That wasn't going to happen. Took me full day and $170.00 in parts but found and fixed the problem. I've been afraid of the newer vehicles other than changing the oil type things because of their complexity. This on-line service has more than paid for itself first time. Being most of us travel with computer now days, this service in now included in my "toolbox". Even if you don't do the work yourself you can keep the mechanic somewhat honest. There are probably other services out there better, I'm not sure, but this one saved me a bunch of money.
Also I used to travel with a couple tool boxes. One Christmas was good to me and got one of those kits that hold tools in a plastic box. No longer sounds like a bucket of bolts going down the road. Really like tools in their own little cubby holes, much quieter.

RE: Digital Multimeters- An RVer's Best Friend

And can't beat the price when you get one free like I did last month from Harbor freight. Also last week and they had a coupon for another free one for Memorial day, if you pick up the coupon before. (Their way of getting you in store one more time I guess)The one free last month, I thought for free it wouldn't be very good. Measured 110 with good one and free one, same reading. I have 2 coupons in front of me right now if anybody with high-tech knowledge can show me how to send it over internet.

RE: Transport Companies

Call 425 485 0684 or 206 226 4485 and see if he is still hauling stuff around? He usually keep busy moving snowbirds up and down west coast. Haven't seen his truck in couple of years. Don't know if he moved on or moved to a different seasonal park. He is a retired truck driver that can't seem to get the "road out of his blood". I'm never going to steep on a truck side board again, but this guy lives for it.

RE: Our new camping spot

Some folks wanted porta potties but at a coat of $80 a month, we would lose money if we had no campers. We were thinking of charging $10 a day for camping this close to the trailhead. What do you think?
Great idea! (I'm just thinking as I type.)Don't overlook day use people. And what about the people that show up with a bike on top of car, what are they going to use for bathroom? What about people like wife and I? We don't bicycle but do enjoy watching little ones race at the SeaTac off road track (just north of runway). Good healthy fun for whole family. Honey buckets; what about buying a couple and servicing them yourselves? (Not a pleasant thought but maybe a lot cheaper). Wife and I don't make reservations, (we don't know where we'll be next week). Could we use your place as a back up?, when another campground is full? You could also use it for get togethers for club that have rv clubs? Eagles, elks etc, some have rv clubs that need larger spaces. We know one private campground that rents out entire one end for clubs/family re-unions.
NOW the sad part for todays society, how are you going to protect your self legal wise? Does zoning come into play? If you have to get a "county use permit" be glad your in a different county than King county. Complete zoo here.

RE: propane gas detector and plumbing vent

On the safe-t-alert question I had the same questions but couldn't get answers on sizes so I took out the old one and got replacement the same size to put back in existing hole. And I actually read the info sheet on new one, which said to the effect...good for five years from date of manufacture listed on back. Which was already 1 1/2 years old when I bought it "new". Which means replace date is not purchase date. Maybe you'll get lucky or ask for a "fresh" one.
On solar sewer pipe vent question. IMO anything solar that is $25.00 can't be that good.

RE: Rotating tires on a dually

How do you rotate the tires, or do you?
I don't because rotate I replace every 5 years, so I "time out" before I "mileage" out. That is only reason. If I put on more miles I would rotate per tire manufacturs guidelines.
