RE: Static Snap

Capacitor discharging? there are a lot of them AC, Invertor, radio, Telly.
but I would think ground problem more than any thing else.
blowing wind (is there anyother kind) could cause loose wire to touch trailer shell frame ect. what ever you find please let us know what you find.
when I was a kid in the first grade we had a camper that only had a 2-prong electrical plug plug it in wrong and the frame of the trailer was hot.

RE: Best GPS

I have the 265WT and on a trip to Alabama the traffic feature worked great the lanes (either one side or the other) would change color to show normal traffic, more traffic, heavy traffic, and stopped traffic now this only worked where the cities had artis or what ever traffic control they had.
I would like to be able to input my own routes which the 265 doesn't allow
I may give this one to my GF and get one that does allow inputing of routes.

RE: TT-30 plug

To answer the question in the post:
The black wire will go under the copper colored screw (hot).
The white wire will go under the silver colored screw (neutral).
The green wire will go under the green screw (ground).
And a 40 foot extension plus the 15 feet will be fine for a trailer with a 20 amp load. It will not be heavy enough to run the trailer A/C and other appliance without getting hot. If you want to be able to run the entire trailer then you would need a 10 gauge cable and plug it into a 30 amp receptacle and circuit.

I win, that is unless you plan on working a lot more years.
I was an electrician over 45 years and you are right on with your answer.

RE: anybody have a Casita??

Greetings !!! My name is Rhonda, my husband has just retired, i have 5 years to go, But, i am starting my research now. Can't wait to hit the road when the time comes. Thanks for any advice.....bye for now
Rhonda If you and your husband wait 5 more years before getting a trailer thats 5 years of not camping.
You may hate it or you may love it have you both camped before?
are you thinking of fulltiming, parttiming, weeks,or days at a time.
My aunt hated camping or so she though when my uncle retired he bought a class C motor home before he died they wore out three class C's, when home she like wille Nelson could not wait to "get on the road again".
What you pull with will determind what size trailer you get I have owned two scamps both 16 footers and only sold them due to health reasons.
I like the 17 foot liberty delux casita it has 3 different ways to sleep king size bed, double bed, 2 single beds all in same camper you decide how you want to sleep.
My last trailer was a wood/metal trailer lots of room but was real hard on the old gas millage my scamp millage never went down from the normal.
Take in a couple of the trailer shows I think you will find the cost of most range from $10K to $30K new and the used stay around $8-9K range.

RE: connected to internet via samsung phone

Yesterday when I used my samsung to connect to the internet using dial up from my windows "connect to" I went back to using DSL.
while using IE to browse the web a pop-up said something to the effect I was off line and did I want to reconnect using dial up.
since I didn't have my phone tethered I closed the pop-up I had to go to "tools" uncheck work off line before I could reconnect.
after this happened several times I deleated dial-up from my "connect to" window and things are ok now.
What did I do wrong? please no "you should get a Mac stuff" I have a pc.
thanks pete

RE: connected to internet via samsung phone

Skip thanks I will check.
Dave thats good news I don't plan on using it much just when on trips.
Gary I'll see if it makes any difference caps vs no-caps.
20ldman yes it is media-net unlimited
2oldman I have a navy buddy who lives in Indio.
back in the 60's my cousin was showing his steer at the date festival wearing
one of my brand new Ohio State sweat shirts when he changed into his whites he left the sweatshirt hanging in the dressing room upon his returning it was gone.
so if you see a ratty old Ohio State sweatshirt on someone roaming the streets tell him Pete wants it back.......no on second thoughts he can keep it I have others.

connected to internet via samsung phone

I have a samsung sgh-a867 and AT&T's $15 media-net unlimited data plan that I use to check e-mails on the phone.
I have been reading about tethering mobile phones to us them on the internet and thought I would give it a try.
I hooked the phone to the laptop via a usb cable
went to the "connect to" window then to the "setup a connection or network" window.
when it ask for number I entered *99#
when it ask for name I entered wap@cingular.com
I never entered anything into the password section.
hit return it said "registering computer"
when it finished it said "connect to the internet" I did and was able to bring up my homepage.
My question is did I do everything correctly?
it seemed to easy
what did I miss?
Thanks pete

RE: potable water

I do most of what the above posters do.
when leaving from home no water in tank.
I carry two 2 1/2 gallon jugs of water sitting in bath for flushing on the road.
I carry 2 gallon of water for drinking carried in kitchen sink.
bottled water in fridge.
when at a campsite I use city water if available if not I use the water I brought or fill the holding tank with campground water.
If I'm headed to a camp not to far from last campground I leave tank full if headed out for a long trip I empty tank and use water jugs from bath.
easier than it sounds.

RE: Do you mask before caulking?

Masking on both sides of the caulking is the only way to go. I also use any mild soap with water on my finger to keep it slick so it leaves a glossy look to the caulking when it is finished. Some use a 1 inch wide tongue depressor, lay it on a 45 degree angle and press down and pull to make a very even, smooth bead. When removing the tape, pull the tape back against itself, so it doesn't lift the caulking away from the surrounding area.

RE: Nervous wife

When flying cross country in our private airplane I gave my wife the job of navigating she would use the flight charts to keep track of where we were on the chart by checking landmarks on the ground made for a more enjoyable flight for the both of us.
I would suggest give her something to do unless you think it would only add to her already fears.
I had a friend who had never been more than 50 miles from home they planned a trip to nigara falls and then on to new england. they made it to the falls and turned arounded and returned home the fear of not knowing where the were or where to get gas or the mess of finding a motel was too much for the both of them.
Her fears are real to her and only with your help will she overcome them so be patitent and good luck.

RE: Purchased a trailer...what was I thinking?

Man did you ever mess up buying something on a whim? :S
Now you will have to go to all those neat places in Florida and stay right there instead of a dirty musty motel.
meet a boat load of new people at the campground and make friends for life. Yea you messed up big time. :B
I use to work 50 to 60 hours a week and still found time to enjoy my camping.
Price for the casita sounds about right.
I think what you are feeling is called "Buyers Remorse" it will go away or if not I will be in florida in Feb I could pull it home with me.:B

RE: Home Theatre Systems for Dummies -- Help

I made a mistake about 25 years ago I ask the salesman if I could add speakers to my new TV.
he said "you can run it through your stero system" I heard "yes you can add speakers" quite different from what he said.
The TV would not drive the speakers I went to radio shack and bought a cheap stero amp I ran the TV sound into amp then to my external speakers.
What I'm saying make sure your TV can support speakers if that's ONLY what you are adding.
now a nice 3 speaker bose system that's different.

RE: CB radio recommendation

I too hold a amateur license and I have been a VE in the past.
Gordon West will send you a letter when it is time to renew, but he charges for the free service just log-on to FCC and renew free.
Have you ever tried to use ham radio on a trip?
when was the last time any ham would tell you about whats going on in a traffic jam?
you may be too young to remember CB radio is eleven meter radio where did it come from? the ham frequencies.
CB is not Junk CB is a very helpfull tool to have
I feel Ham radio is on the way out a service that has ran it's course.
Hams now are nothing more than appliance operators most use computers
I've done most forms of ham radio TV, slow scan, rtty in most all of its forms. EME, HF, VHF, UHF and microwave.
most power I have run was 500 watts least was .5 MW.
Using CB radio does not make you an idiot, 50% idiots? I don't think so.
(snip)
First off, some background. I am a licensed amateur radio operator. Not only that, I have the highest attainable license class, allowing ALL privledges within the amateur radio alloted spectrum (bands).
I am also a "VE" (Volunteer Examiner) for amateur radio operators as granted by the FCC.
Anyway, I say forget CB. CB legally only affords one 4 watts of transmit power on ANY CB radio. Also, CB runs on "AM" mode. The same "AM" as in Amplitude Modulation, just like AM radio in your car. With only 4 watts of power on "AM" mode of transmission, it's really poor performance as well as noisy.
-99% of all amateur radio conversations are foul language free, vs. CB which is about 50% foul mouthed idiots!
Forget CB. It's junk. Amateur radio is easy.

RE: how much cribbing?

I once needed a boat load.
we were in the KOA at renfro Valley ky the slope from front to back was so great the back jacks fully extended wouldn't touch the ground and the front jacks required me to did a hole before I could lower them.
Lucky I had a lot of boards.
