To conserve water, we use gel hand sanitizer when washing hands isn't completely necessary. And since showers take a lot of water we take "washcloth" showers when necessary. In a very tight circumstance flushable wipes can also be used.
Our trailer only has a 15 gallon freshwater tank. With two adults, we can make that last about three days. I also bring along at least one 6-gallon blue container like has been mentioned previously. I did make a PVC funnel to make filling easier:

In some cases it is important to remember their terminology. In some locations a second cleanout is OK but a dump station constitutes a second residence on one property which can lead to zoning issues. My BIL ran into this when he added a dump, er. second cleanout for his fifth wheel.
Thanks for pointing that out, TubaPete. I'm sure there are terminology and legal differences depending on the location. I would think that since the trailer is not parked there full-time, and I don't plan to keep the sewer hose attached except when the tanks are being emptied, it would be pretty hard to call it a second residence. For better or worse my small housing development threw out the CC&R's at the first & last meeting, and the majority of my neighbors park their RV's in their driveways during the summer.

A dump station to call my own!
One of my long-term plans has been to T in to the sewer line coming from my house to the street to have easy access to drain the gray and black tanks. I had considered a macerator pump system but decided against it for multiple reasons.
To start out with, I contacted the city in hopes they'd have a plat of where the sewer line was on my property. Their answer was basically that they only kept those types of records for three years (my house is 10 years old), but I should contact the "call before you dig 811 number" and they would locate it for me (this ended up being false information -- they only advise where the water/electrical/cable lines are located, not sewer). The city did tell me that to add a wye into a sewer line on my property as a cleanout (READ-"dump station") is considered a simple plumbing repair, and required no special permit. They also suggested I clear it with the state, just to be sure.
After trying to contact the state three times, I finally got a call back. He basically said there was no issue with what I intended to do, but just to make sure that the wye pointed toward the street so the waste would flow the proper direction (duh).
So...I got to digging. I thought I knew where the sewer line was since there is a cleanout right next to the house, and I assumed it basically went straight out to the street. WRONG. After a few hours of digging a ditch 2' wide, 5' deep, and 8' long, I found NOTHING. During a break I called a couple of places to see how much a locate would be, and the cost ranged from $120 to $350. Discouraged by the cost I kept digging, and with a little direction from the excavator contractor who did the job 10 years ago, the line was located about 5' from where I wanted the top of the cleanout to be, right at the corner of the driveway and sidewalk.

To "T" into the line, I got a flexible 4" wye that had hose clamps built in at each end. It worked AWESOME. The line is temporarily capped to prevent dirt and rocks from going down the line.

The next step was just to add on 45° or 22.5° angles to bring the 4" sewer pipe up to the right location, and adjusting so it would basically be vertical where it gets to the top. Of course there was a lot of backfilling to do, and I was sure to tamp down the dirt around the pipe as much as possible. I also got a sprinkler valve type cover so the cleanout would be covered when not in use.

In the end the cleanout/dump station is about 2' from the drain on the trailer, and can be securly screwed directly to the cleanout. I couldn't be happier! And so far I've had three neighbors come over to check it out, hoping to do the same thing themselves! The total cost for plumbing supplies was around $65, and about 8 hours of work (almost all of that was digging and backfilling), and no permits were required. Hopefully this will be an impetus for those considering doing something similar. It was totally worth the effort I believe.

I didn't realize the prices varied so much. I paid $2.69/gallon at the local hardware store yesterday. A bonus from buying it there is that they only charge to the nearest tenth of a gallon, and thus it's nice to get them topped off instead of waiting until they're completely empty. This is in North Idaho.

If you only need a small additional length, why not lengthen the existing chains instead of replacement? I see no problem with this as long as the added links are rated for at least as much as the original chain. Examples here

Check out Rotopax. They have some spiffy mounting systems that might work. My only other thought would be to contact an Army/Navy surplus store for a Jerry can with a mount.

I'm pretty sure I've got the smallest gas tank out there. 2010 RAV4 has a 15.9 gallon tank. But the trade off for having the smallest possible daily driver/tow combination makes it worth it for us. Towing averages 14-15 mpg, highway driving is 26-28 mpg.
