RE: Rest Areas Safe?

May of them prohibit overnite stays. I wouldn't do it unless it were an emergency. I caught a trucker (on the rear camera) trying to pull the pins on my tow gear. I always check my gear before leaving a rest stop. Another issue is noise. The trucks coming and going all nite would be enough to keep me awake. Also there usually isn't room to out a slide out either. Ron

RE: Setting the time on dash radio - 2008 Monaco

I'll bet Mr. Mark is right- But if not: I've "learned" to reset more than one electronic clock by the keep-pushing-buttons-'til-something-happens method... CAUTION Do NOT use this method on a device where any button is labeled "launch" :B Or "detonate"

RE: Allies Specialty Vehicles Buys Monaco Corp Today

Let's hope their attitude is better towards the customer than Navistar!!! I don't know if the new owner is more tuned into dealing with the ultimate customer/owner. Having dealt with the factory service center in Coburg after Navistar took over I can tell you that IMO they viewed the coach owner as an inconvenience. It wasn't much different when Monaco ran it either. Getting anything but minor services on warranty out of them was a major undertaking. Hopefully the new Monacos will look less like an OTR truck and more like an RV. Ron

Dash Cam

Are any of you out there using a dash cam? If so what brand and capability are you using? I'm looking for one but want to get a full featured setup without breaking the bank, or making it look like I've got a movie studio in the front of my MH. Ron

RE: Violent shaking front end

Had the same problem with our 2000 Safari Zanzibar. It stopped when we installed a steer-safe on it. I'd suggest a steering stabilizer. Ron

RE: Visiting Branson Mo. in June, any sugestions for Rv parking

You won't have any trouble getting into most of the parks with a 36' MH. Suggest you decide if you want close in city or rustic country sites. Branson City runs a CG right on Lake Taneycomo where 76 goes over the lake with fishing floats and shuttle to the landing. It's good that you're staying for a week, when we first visited here we were full timers and checked in to ABC for two days. We liked the area so we wound up there a week. After a few months we went back and bought a lot in Hollister then built a cabin where we park some of the time. You should do a lot of exploring the area and seeing the shows. Since you're spending the time you shouldn't have to get in hurry-up mode to see the area and attractions. I strongly suggest that you visit Silver Dollar City for a day. We hold season passes and visit 4-5 times a year. Ron

RE: Generator Question

Still... I think your generator does not have a high enough "no-load" idle speed. We have run our 8K Onan under the exact same condition that you described and I've never noticed any fluctuations in the tv satellite receiver. In fact, I can barely discern any rpm, or sound, difference in the generator at all. I suggest that you have your generator looked at and possibly have the idle rpm set a little higher. Hope this helps Ron The quietdiesel generators are different depending on the model. 7.5 and below use an internal inverter to generate the ac power. 8.0 and up are rpm sensative and run at a constant speed regardless of load. I have a 7.5 but it picks up the load fast enough that it doesn't seem to affect other things. Ron

RE: Horsepower/weight ratio

Mfgrs have generally used the 1 hp per 100lbs guideline and a wheelbase ratio of over 50% as standards. At first not all did the wheelbase number and it is virtually impossible to achieve in most gassers. Ron

RE: Can you Jack knife this???

With my 97 Jeep Cherokee I could not back at all. Had to once and bent the tow bar arms.(Roadmaster) With our 04 GMC Envoy I have backed about 20' with no ill effect, straight line only. A trick I learned is to disconnect the tow brake (US Gear) before backing, the brakes on the toad caused it to crab if I have the brakes applied. I had the towbar (Roadmaster Sterling) rebuilt by Roadmaster using stainless steel shafts and it has worked perfectly since. The older bars seemed to bend easily. Knowing what I can do with my setup makes me a bit more intrepid, I don't recommend everyone trying it. Ron

RE: 40 foot tipping over

The way DPs are constructed most of their weight is under the floor. We've driven in winds that were pushing over semi trailers that were empty in Barstow and all we suffered was the awnings got roughed up a little. Had to slow to about 30mph to keep it on the road tho. Ron

RE: RV fire Omaha.

As we drive across our country we see large burned spots on the side of the road on the asphalt shoulder. You can just about guess what it was by the size of the burn mark. Another thing that seems to be fire prone are certain refers too. This is a reminder that at the first hint of fire, GET OUT!!!!!!!! Don't try to save anything but life, yours and any others in there!!!! Ron

RE: Domestic duo-therm heat pump

Have heat, yes, just want to get it working. Fan runs but blows cool air. Fan and compressor are separate. Is the compressor running too? On mine there is a delay before the compressor starts in either mode. Ron

RE: New to pushers please advise

Something I forgot, did the previously put a biocide in the fuel tank? If not it is possible that algae has grown in the tank. If the tank is contaminated the fuel filters will clog and need many replacements before clearing or possibly a drain and clean of the tank. Ron

RE: New to pushers please advise

Check to see if it has "Velvet ride" suspension. That uses torsion bars imbedded in rubber suspension rather than air bags. If it has velvet ride check with a Safari forum for info on it. Also on a test drive watch for "porpoising" at bridge separations. DPs that short tend to be nose light and in one case a mfgr had to ballast the front to control it. If the front wheel hubs are wet bearing type check carefully to see if the fluid is still up to level and that the bearings havn't developed any rust. Wet hubs tend to dry out on the high side during long periods of storage and could rust a bit. If they are greased then you should be OK but at that mileage they should be repacked. Ron

RE: accessing the generator on a 2003 Safari zanzibar

Try asking here. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/ Your Safari was built by Monaco at that time I think. There should be other owners there who can help. PS, look for a switch with Gen in out label on it. Ron We are trying to access the generator in the front but cannot seem to open the door. Additionally the "start" button on the dash does not seem to work either. Can anyone help us out with how to open the front panel to get to the generator? Help please Is there a trick to opening the front door?
