RE: UTV's and helmets

MDW spends a lot of time on the dew and she is pissed they made this a law because Helmits Hate Hair. LOL.
Helmet hair Oh My! Yes the ladies won't like this law, heck she gets mad when I take the top off the jeep.

RE: Cherokee Wolf Pack/Pup Quality

Wolf Packs are solid quality, just not fancy by any means. You can look at mine in my profile, I like the toys outside. It can be pretty heavy on the tongue, my 2500HD handles it fine, but a 1500 may need some helpers.

RE: Separate garage or not?

I've been thinking about this TH. Has a seperate garage, slide-out, and queen bed. Seems the right size for easy pulling around but still gives you some room. 30' TH

" Lets take it further, maybe 2 wheels fall off the trailer as well and there is a 100MPH tail wind pushing us down a 15% grade mountain pass with hair pin turns and angry grizzly bears all around all while the sun is in our eyes and the bridge is out ahead! :D joking ofcourse.."
Even with your silly scenario, I'd rather be in Kevin's truck when things go to heck than yours......just saying:W

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

I'm voting on this answer "are they out of sync with the electric motor?
Occasionally if something hits the mirror they get knocked off track. You then have to manually click them back into position with your hand".
Take your mirrors out as far as they go and gently adjust glass by hand, you may hear a clicking as you move the mirror glass past where the motor is stopping. Once they are where you can see, they can be fine tuned with the motor.

RE: Towing in fog?

I've had to drive in heavy fog a lot livivng in the mountains. In fog I drive with my window open and listen for trouble, you will hear crashing before you see it, it's loud. Keep a good distance, being rearended is better than being sandwiched (that is how the couple died). If I were on an open highway and heard crashing I'd head for the shoulder and drive as far from the road as I could get, even if I ended up stuck (you're going to be stuck there for awhile anyway)I'm sure you all know, but don't drive with your highbeams on in fog, in fact if you set up your fog lights to work without your headlights you're better off, just leave on your parking lights so you have rear lights.

RE: Camping at Mecca Copia Trail, Drop 31. Salton Sea

I have rode around drop 31 while doing the loop from North Glamis. There was a mix of people, I wouldn't feel safe leaving the camp unattended for long. Mostly hard pack going in but there are a few sandy spots. For me the safety of camping at NG is worth the price. I have done well over 100 mile runs for NG, it's so nice to soak in the spa when done. You might consider boondocking at the east end of the Bradshaw by Blythe.

RE: Forest River 27HFS - Thinking About Purchase

I pull a 2012 27HFS with a 2007 Chevy 2500HD and WDH.
I brought it home with a Dodge 1500 and was NOT happy on the short drive. Much happier with the 2500.
Getting to the scales is on my to-do list.
If you are thinking about trailering big/heavy toys - my trailer has a sticker on the door stating that it's limited to something like ~1600lbs cargo capacity.
Kathy
This TH is available with 2x5000# axles which I beleive allows for more cargo than the stock 2x3500#

RE: Forest River 27HFS - Thinking About Purchase

I've been interested in that TH myself, but I have a 2500HD. Some things to consider the "toys" are behind the axle so depending on the weight of your toys that will lighten your TW at the expense of having a lot of weight on the tail (sway. The weight is dry so you will have to decide if the final weight is workable, I'm sure you have the motor to pull it, but the tires, springs, and brakes would be taxed. As I said it's a nice unit but you need to do some math to be sure.

RE: Shocks

Any quality aftermarket shock is going to beat the factory jobs that fetched $10 a piece for the OEM.
Not in my case. I relaced my factory shocks with Monroe's and found no noticible improvement. In trying to save money I screwed up, I should have gone with the Bilstein's or Rancho.

Wow! you've bought three Fords since the bailout? either they don't last long, you aren't satisfied with your purchases, or you're trying to be a clever troll.

RE: Polaris ATV belt slipping

A couple of things that will slip the belt are water in the belt housing, this can happen when going through high water and splashing. You may have to drain the water, but slow driving while the heat drys things out will normally fix this. The other problem is not using low range while climbing slow or going over obstacles, this will cause belt slipping and smoking if you continue to slip. If the person was slipping the belt and did not fix the problem they may have burnt your belt or glazed it, and changing it might be the only wise thing. It is an easy change, I have done it on the trail. There is a video of how to do it on Youtube.

RE: Alabama to CA, are there any must rides?

I'd take the I70 and ride Utah & Colorado. If you haven't done the Piaute trails, try them out. With elevations around 13,000 ft you can always find cool weather.

RE: Tranny coolers - best?

Don't be talked into going bigger. With what you're towing your truck will be fine. I've pulled 8000# through the mountains of Nevada and Utah in 110+ heat and my temps are fine. My tranny guy who checks my fluids regularly says my factory equipment is fine for what I'm pulling, but he will gladly change my cooler and pan if I want to give him my money :)

RE: Oversized Tranny Pans

My transmission guy says cooler first, but a deeper pan holding more fluid is a good thing too. For what i pull(8000# 6.0 2500HD 6speed) he feels my factory cooler and pan are fine. If I were pulling closer to max weight he would suggest increasing both.

RE: Tongue Weight is too Light

If you have tools, I hope you do. I put them in the front storage. I bet my tools add a couple hundred pounds. I carry a floor jack and any tools needed to camp or do roadside repairs. We also put bottled water and any non-refrigerated food in containers up front, I know some of my friends add a hundred pounds in beer alone ;) your mileage may vary.

RE: GMC 2500HD... should I?!

I guess I'm the odd man out, if you rarely tow I would think hard before I traded the car like ride of a 1500 for the harsher ride and less MPG's of the 2500HD. I love my 2500HD, but I wouldn't have it if not for towing.JMHO
