RE: traveling with cats

Try riding in the trailer and see how you like it. They will likely be terrified and will become missiles in the event of a panic stop. They are safest restrained in the cab. Our two mutts don't like it either but that is how things are. We stop frequently to allow them to stretch, do their business and have a drink.

RE: 5th wheel advice needed

We have a similar truck and are looking to upgrade the fiver. Our maximum gvwr limit is 10,000 lbs which means a 27-28' with no slide, a bit shorter if slide equipped. As was mentioned, 20% hitch weight puts us right on the limit for a 2500. We also do not want to upgrade our licenses to allow for a heavier trailer. As far as slider hitches go, you may or may not need one. If the front corners of the trailer are cut away for additional clearance a fixed hitch will be fine. Our old trailer does not have this feature and yes we have experienced the very expensive consequences.

RE: 2012 dodge 3500 dually

Diesel? Gas? Mileage? Condition? Price? Daily driver? How much towing do you plan to do?

RE: I-5 or CA99?

We came north on I-5 with fog most of the way, man that was monotonous. I would like to try 99 just for something different.

RE: Are hitches universal?

Unfortunately, mount kits are not universal.

RE: Proper Gear for Towing up Hills

The transmission will select the proper gear for the hill. If the engine starts to lug or the transmission starts to hunt, slow down and select the lower gear. You will quickly learn what works best for each situation.

RE: CampingWorld has lost another Customer and refs for life!

What the others have said. Once you put oil and gas in it you own it, they can't take it back and resell it as a new unit. I work for an outdoor power equipment distributor, we run into this all the time with the box stores.Once they take it back in exchange they become the second owner and factory warranty will not cover the product. They should either repair it and submit a warranty claim or send it to an authorized service center on your behalf. If you are unhappy with the noise level that is too bad, you should have done your homework. A reputable outdoor power equipment dealer would go through that with you before purchase. However they don't sell 300 dollar generators so the choice is yours.

RE: 5th wheel lift gate?

I am looking at the aluminum ones. The factory gate is a nuisance when hooking up and unhooking as the trailer nose is short, I have already stoved in the propane compartment door with the corner. Because our trailer is small we need to carry the lawn chairs, cooler and other necessary 'stuff' in the box while traveling.

RE: Where to camp north of Seattle

Pleasant Lake in Bothell is a short distance south of the I-5/405 junction and is one of the nicest parks we have seen. Clean, quiet with a supermarket across the road and reasonably priced.

RE: Removable towing mirror suggestions.

That looks like a nice system. I thoroughly cussed the CIPA mirrors I tried on the old tv, they would not stay tight. The next door mount set were little better, they vibrated until I got overzealous and broke the adjustment knob.:M The factory tow mirrors on our 05 Ram are the cat's meow.

RE: Ever See One of These?

Roomy but not sure I would want to haul it especially over rough roads. Still, it is neat.

RE: License plates from truck to TC and back again, and again.

No you can't have a third plate. Can you imagine the potential for abuse, it would drive the state troopers nuts.:B Does one plate have an expiry decal on it? If so you would need to display it correctly. Edit: I think the quarter turn fasteners would make theft too easy.

RE: Seattle area camp grounds

Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell is one of the nicest parks we have seen. Clean, quiet, very well maintained, many of the sites back onto the lake edge. Shopping center across the road. Lots of ducks to keep the kids and dogs entertained. It is a short drive off 405 which allows easy access to the city.

RE: Scary Towing Sights This Week...

Private vehicles are not required to be weighed in most jurisdictions but an LOE could pull over a suspicious looking set up and a fine could result. Things could get nasty with the insurance company in the event of an accident. The worst one I have seen was a dual axle tt being towed by a CJ-7 on oversize tires. No sway bars either. I can only hope he never got into a situation where he needed to stop or manoevre in a hurry. Talk about the tail wagging the dog.:R

RE: Leaving 5th Wheel Hitch Hanging on Kingpin

I do it without any qualms. IMHO, that is minor compared to the stresses of everyday towing.Sure beats trying to pick up the hitch with this 60+ year old back.

RE: Crazy Truck Dealers

The numbers quoted are only a starting point, the DIFFERENCE is what you need to be concerned with. What does it matter whether he wants 30 grand for his truck and offers 10 for yours or asks 50 for his and gives you 30? You are still forking over 20 big ones. You want top dollar for your cream puff you better be prepared to pay big for his. Try working for some extras and more important a tire upgrade.

RE: anyone towing 12000 lb 5th wheel with 3/4 ton pick up

I towed a 14,000 shop trailer with a srw 3500 powered by the 6.5 diesel, it was not fun. Not enough power and stopping took some planning, time was in short supply on some occasions. I definitely needed more truck but management said no.:(
