RE: RVing to Mexico

Please post on how your trip goes. We used to go to Puerta Penasco once a year, but stopped 3 years ago when we felt the border to less safe. Then I started reading that the Riff was like a ghost town. Please tell us what you think when you get there. You make me laugh Quote:We used to go to Puerta Penasco once a year, but stopped 3 years ago when we felt the border to less safe. you live in LA? one of the most dangerous citys in North America and your worried about Puerta Penasco?? Your way too funny

RE: Having probelms with the bedroom slide

Here you go 18:1 gear. Only $60 and includes the entire gear assy including the clutch. Assuming this is the correct part, Scott gets the "Search of the Day" award. ;) better to change the whole motor/gear assembly for $260$

RE: help! stranded at park

No surge protector yet. We just bought. The engine WILL START your talkng in riddles.First you say no power then u say 110V works. The 12 Volt system is dead by sounds of it but will have nothing to do about being plugged in.Even if your inverter./converter were dead or damaged you should still have full 12 volt power.Sounds to me like the 12V disconnect switch is turned off or burnt out in off position

RE: Scam...Scam

RE: Strange Occurance in Campground

The strangest thing happened the other day in our RV Park. I was sitting in the coach reading and in of the corner of my eye I saw movement...looked up and a fellow was strolling across the lawn by the coach. Later on, here comes another one heading in the same direction. This went on a couple of times a day until I was able to step outside and chat with one of them and mentioned that walking through someone else's site is a MAJOR breach of etiquette. I got a real funny look and the response of "never heard of such at thing, no one has every mentioned it before" like I was a belligerent in the matter and incorrect. I just chaulked that response up as a defensive posture but, at least it hasn't happened since. Later found out the chaps were commonly doing that trough others sites as a shortcut to the club house. it may be a slight breach of etiquette depending on several things such as lot size and area their supposable breaching but I certainly dont feel its a "MAJOR" breach of etiquitte at all also depends on if your just renting or actually own the lot

RE: Engine hours versus Miles

Hi, Looking at a 1989 Foretravel DP. Mileage on the odometer says 49k and the hour meter says 4056 hrs. I'm new to the Class A diesels, but don't the hours sound high for the mileage? I'm thinking the odometer maybe isn't the original?4056 hours X 30MPH =121000 so yes the speedo was changed or disconnected

RE: Foremost Insurance for MH. Cost seems almost too low

Lets be a little more realistic here. Its a known FACT that to insure your MH to be driven for a full year and have required coverage plus a decent liability etc will cost around 12-$1300 per year so its rather obvious the 120$ is a quote error. You dont have to be smart to realize this situation is bogus and of course if your full time its a lot more than even 1300$

We tried pulling the slide in and out several times and the lock is still not working. We are going to get it fixed during our next scheduled maintenance, but we have a trip planned next week. Any input on traveling without the lock engaged until we get it fixed. Thanks unless u have a hydralic or pressure loss the slide wont comne out

RE: Allison failure

How much time and mileage since the last transmission fluid and filters change? that would have no bearing on the transmission just up and quiting

RE: BATTERIES FROM HELL!, does it never end?

Is it possible you have left the inverter in the on position? That leaves power to the Tvs,fridge, micro etc.anything thats plugged in to 120V

RE: $5,000 + for new front brakes

Shop around some more. Often times the big brake parts are cheaper than those for PU trucks and such. My buddy can put pads and drums on his Kenworth for about a third of what it cost me for my Dodge. I do know large truck AIR brakes parts even though there big are usually not that exspensive but I can catagorectly tell you without any doubt they are NOT 1/3 the cost of 3500 series dodge pickup brake parts

RE: Helium Refrigerator

they are ammonia based but they have a hydrogen charge thats what went WHUMP when my norcold blew up, with big flash of fire and smoke lucky i was there at the time never hear that one before. NORCOLD actually exploded and started a fire?

RE: Helium Refrigerator

Bud, thanks for posting the pricing link. Looks like PPL has the 8 cu ft model for less than $1300. I have seen the standard ammonia-based fridges for comparable prices. But everytime I see a posting from someone who had fridge problems, they talk like a new fridge cost them two or three thousand dollars, or even more. What's the truth? A Norcold 1210 series fridge is like $3000

RE: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010

PianoTuna is correct that the residential type fridge are a lot cheaper and that is why they are installing them on some of the new coaches, to save money. But at the same time they have to install a pure sine inverter and six house batteries to keep that residential type fridge running. I have never had any problems with my Norcold 1200 LRIM in nine years that I have had my coach. I set it at six and it stays at 34 degrees. And I imagine the freezer is much colder. The ice cream stays pretty solid. I really like where you can use propane and AC current. So if I ever have problems I will buy the Amish made coils. It would be too much of a problem removing the one piece windshield to bring in the residential fridge and removing the Norcold, plus they never are the perfect fit. So you would have to hire a carpenter to make modifications so that it does not look like a shoddy job. Just too much trouble for me. I agree 100%.Mind you because the tiffin has the 32 inch entry door u dont have to spend $800 Re and Reing the front windshield

RE: Roof AC, Cool but not Cold

Just a quick note to thank everyone that gave information that helped me fix my AC. Today is hot again and now some wild humidity, but the air is coming out real cold. So thank you all again...Fantastic help. This is a great internet site. I have been lurking for years, and learned alot. but you folks have really made my day, week, whatever! Thanks. what I cant figure out is how Both roof AC units failed to cool at exactly the same time?

RE: 7 Year Cost of Operating the Dutch Star

Well, the numbers are in. 7 1/2 years ago, some of you may remember my questions as to whether or not I should buy a "New" Newmar coach that came with NO factory warranty. I took a chance and did it. Now, I have gone through the file, invoice by invoice and I can quantify my experience. The dealer included a 7 year/ 100,000 mile service contract in the deal. My net cost was: Out of pocket for routine maintenance and servicing was $9,698. Including 6 tires, converting to synthetic ATF, etc. Out of pocket for stuff that broke prematurely was about $1,390. I could have missed a little something, but not much. So, since my purchase price was about 65% of MSRP (including the service contract), I think I did OK. Thanks for all the good advice 7 1/2 years ago. Now... If a radiator cap cures the overheating issue next week, I'm a happy camper. BUT?? how many Miles are on the unit?

RE: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010

Hi, Use the savings to buy solar and an inverter. Residential is the way to wander. what savings?? there are non to be had.Buying a new inverter and new batterys and all the HD wiring required plus a decent fridge cost way way more than a new cooling unit installed never mind the cost to a person to have all the new inverter system installed and the rework of the cabinets and most older units need the windshield removed which is exspensive etc

RE: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010

Hope everyone finds this useful. The Norcold solution wasn't a fix, it was a removal of liability. No matter how many times you have the sensor replaced the fridge will not stop overheating and if you bypass the sensor and your rig catches on fire, it's your fault, not Norcolds. I expect there will be a class action suit on this sooner than latter norcold never claimed it was a fix.what it does is shut the fridge off in the rare case it overheats from a low cooling fluid situation it was never designed nor intended as a repair due to overheating.

RE: 2008 Tiffin Allegro bus. Unusual inverter config.

Hi folks. Just helping someone with their 2008 Tiifin Allegro Bus and noticed that the Xantrex inverter install is (at least in my mind) unusual. The whole coach seems to be powered from the inverter...eg...the fridge etc etc. Was this something that the previous owner might have modded or did Tiffin really wire it this way. Not making judgements, just trying to get informed for the fellow. There must be a sense line for the AC's that don't allow them to come on as they don't. I would appreciate any input from owners of this coach. Thanks in advance. John On a 2008 TAB all the power goes through the inverter. It also has a Invert one and invert two (two seperate runs) It also has breakers on the inlet side and breakers on the outlet side.Protects against the power through that runs the AC I suspect.3000 watt inverters and boy the Cable to the unit is extra heavy stuff
