RE: Hitch weld or not

Back in the 50s on the Farm we welded all our hitches and also welded many a P/Up with hitches. Never had one fail. I still weld hitches to my MHs if need be. I never have disconnected the battery before welding.

RE: Florida Thunderstorm Warnings - awning in or out ?

I was in sunny Calif in Aug in San Diego and the DW said "we should put the awning away as it sure looks like rain plus it is really windy" I said " we are in San Diego, it will be alright". We came back late that night and the awning was just about torn completely off the TT. I vote to put the awning away !!!!

RE: Ford 250 V10

I have owned three V10s. Still have one that I use to tow a 34 ft TT thousands of miles a year. I get 7 to 9 MPG towing and up to 15 on the Freeway empty at 73 MPH with the cruise on, The V10 is the best gas eng that I have ever owned,
and I have had many over the 57 years that I have been legally driving.

RE: My first 5th wheel trip coming up... flat tire question?

I have had more than my share of blowouts over the many years that I have towed RVs and only once or twice did I know. All the other times someone would pull
next to me and point toward the rear. After all the drive by shootings in Calif
I was paranoid when someone pulled next to me and just looked at me, finally pointed toward the rear. It is hard to see the tires on my 34 ft TT as I really have to st reach my neck and I have the towing mirrors on my Ford Lariat Super Cab.

RE: Monthly electric usage

Last season here in Yuma two sisters rented my personal RV Lot. One sis had a 34 ft 5th w and the other sis rented my Park Model. I started out only charging them a $1.00 a day each for elect. The first month was $153.00 for elect. The second month I raised there elect usage to $2.00 a day each. The bill was $157 for the second month . The 3rd month I raised the rate to $2.50 each per day
and the bill for elect was $159. This year I put a elect meter on the RV site and charge each renter 12 cents KW. We will see how that works out. You just never know how much elect renters will use as it all depends on how they use it.
{space heaters etc} I see yesterday the renter who is on the RV site bought a big outdoor older type ref that he set up outside his 36 ft MH. Oh well, 12 cents KW he will pay.

RE: Have you stayed in Yuma Foothills?

There are many privately owned RV Lots that you can rent a space to park your RV on. The prices are any where from $175 month and up per month plus you will pay any where from $1.00 a day for elect or up to 16 or 18 cents per KW. Water, septic,'trash pick up is usually free. I believe staying on a private lot is much cheaper than staying at a RV Resort. I have several lots that are rented for the season and most every one that has stayed in a RV Park prefer my private lots.

RE: Newbie fueling question

I have never refueled in a Truck Stop in nearly 50 years of towing TT and 5th w.
I towed a 40 ft 5th w for several years and now tow a 34 ft TT. I just make sure that I can get out before pulling into the Sevice Station. So far so good.

RE: Long (> 30') TT vs. 5th Wheel

I have owned three 5th w but I always go back to a TT because I really like hauling bikes, gen, firewood etc in the p/up bed. I tow a 34 ft TT and I have very little problem getting into camp grounds except Calif. I buy gas at the regular Service Stations with no problems. Never been to a Truck Stop for gas in nearly 50 years of towing.

RE: Ford V10 towing ability

I tow a 34 ft TT approx 10,200 pounds, with my V10 with the 3:73 {wish it had the 4:10} with very little problems. I do shift into 2nd gear. Get 7 to 9 miles per gallon towing, up to 15 empty on Freeway

RE: WDH with Friction system sway control

I've been towing for 30 + yrs using a friction sway system on a 26 ft'er & now a 30 ft'er and have not had one issue with turning sharply or backing up. I haven't giving it one thought about anything bad happening to the friction bar. Some have told me I gotta unhook the friction bar when I back up, I don't know why?... I haven't bent the bar yet. + I have never had any sway problems other than the occasional semi trying to suck me in. My philosophy is .... don't worry bout till it happens, then it's to late to worry bout it. :)
Happy camping & enjoy your new trailer
I agree with the above post 100 %. I have been towing right at 50 years and never removed the friction bar when turning sharply, backing up etc. I have towed many hundred of thousand of miles
and no problems with the type of tow equip that you describe. I tow a 34 ft TT at the present time

RE: Slide locks

My TT came with poles to jam in the top of the 14 ft slide out and I used several times but most of the time they fall down along the side so now I never use. Never had a problem with water getting inside or coming out
