RE: Do Class A drivers need instructions before driving

I have witnessed many scary things while traveling and talked to so many A drivers that didn't have a clue of any mechanical systems.....or anything about anything except how to unlock the door.
I believe this is a threat to all on the road and not suggesting a permit just education.......maybe like a hunter safety course....
After all an A is sometime as big as an 18 wheeler and with nowhere near the safety systems.....
What do you think?
Just because you own a class a MH, shouldn't require you to meet commercial standards....
Class A's range from 30' to 45'....
In NY, a class a license allows you to drive any personal vehicle up to 26,000 lbs
For MH's 26,001 lbs and over you need an "R" endorsement...
I can't speak of other states, but I'm sure most normal licenses have a weight restriction...
Now as far as being familiar with the vehicle you are driving....that is a no brainer...

RE: dinghy towing odometer

My 05 PT Cruiser records towed miles. I have to have the ignition on to unlock the steering wheel.
There should be a fuse you can remove to prevent this from happening....

RE: CampingWorld has lost another Customer and refs for life!

There is no equivalent to a Honda or a Yamaha.....its funny how less priced generators will claim a db# equal to the leaders, but once you fire them up its no comparison.
As for the OP, all you needed to do was ask "what it the return policy" when you made your purchase.
I found out the hard way at Best Buy a few years ago. They had a 14 day return policy on computers and silly me made an early Xmas purchase for my wife for a netbook on sale. Once she opened the box, we knew she wouldn't like it, we took it back for a better model (simply wanted to upgrade)
Tuff out of luck, as approx 30 days had passed...

RE: ezpass with toad.....

OK, just checked my ez-pass account. I used one tag and was charged $18.50 with toad attached.
Separately I would have paid $6.50 each (total $13.00)
So it cost $5.50 more to tow.

RE: ezpass with toad.....

I wonder if it would register the same at the toll reader if the unit was in the toad and not the MH.
All went well last night. I used the MH tag only, and tolls were a breeze.
Now to answer you question. If the tag was in the toad and not the MH, the toll gate wouldn't lift because the toad is too far back....

RE: Are synthetic oils worth the money?

I change oil regularly. That said, I was wondering how many of you run synthetic oil in your tow vehicles? Is there a lot of difference in wear and tear on your engine between a good premium motor oil and a synthetic? Especially with higher mileage vehicles... ~80,000 mi.

I used synthetic oil from day one...
Vehicle #1 has 205,000 miles and still runs like day one....
Vehicle #2 has 155,000 miles and still runs like day one....

RE: Buying new Jeep Wrangler for Toad

Help from jeep owners on dealers that might deal on a new wrangler. Checked prices in Denver and Austin and have only been able to get 700 knocked off retail
Thanks
Jim
I just bought a 2013 4 door freedom edition. I have to say, I luv it. I installed blueox base plates, and
I use a blueox patriot brake.
Who ever said "don't buy a new one" hasn't done their research. More power and
Better fuel economy.
And I did get "discount". I paid invoice. (Window sticker was $34,400, and paid $32,700)
Good luck,
Happy travels

RE: Wifi hotspots

Planning to see the U.S.A. in a Roadtrek 170. Now, we are new to this, and have been planning for months. Took a couple of small trips to get our feet wet, and discovered that learning is half the fun! I was wondering if it would be worth the cost to make my phone a hot spot,or is wifi readily available in most places. This newbie would appreciate any and all advice .
I pay $20 per month to make my phone a hot spot. Very convenient...
My DW can tap away on her tablet as we drive down the road...
Plus most places charge for WiFi today...

RE: flat tow steering question

Thanks to all who replied. I am going to take myself to an empty parking lot and give it a go....
I see plenty of MH flat towing, so I am sure it is as easy as it looks. I have always used a dolly, and never even felt the vehicle behind me....
I guess the fact that the wheels are "free" to turn had me concerned...
Thanks again

I am new to flat towing.
Does the dinghy follow behind the MH in a straight line?
What prevents it from veering side to side?

RE: fifthwheel verses class A motorhome

Ok in another topic I ask about trucks and fifth wheels. My new question is what does everyone perfer a 5er or a class A motorhome and why
If I were to live in it, I would prefer a 5'er (more creature comforts)
But I like to travel, so for now my home has a motor...

RE: Title Not Clear - Private Sale of a RV that has a loan on it

I am considering selling my 2012 5th Wheel privately – not replacing it (life changes). I currently have a portion of it financed, so the bank holds the Title.
Has anyone done a private sale of a RV (or motor vehicle – car or truck) that had a loan on it and the bank held the title? If so, how did you handle the financial part of the sale in a way to protect both the buyer and the seller? Did you use an escrow service? If so, which one?
Trading in a unit makes this type of situation much easier as the dealer handles everything, but a private sale without a clear title is something I have never done before on any RV or Motor Vehicle.
Thanks in advance for your insight and help.
Russ
Buyer needs to write multiple checks...
1. Deposit to you (usually 10%)
You draft an agreement of sale...both parties sign and get notorized.
2. Buyer writes check to your bank for payoff amount.
3. Buyer receives waiver of lean
4. Buyer hands you final payment upon delivery
All can be done with overnight mail....if buyer is financing, the lending institution will handle the legal work...

RE: Direct or Dish

What are your thoughts between the two. I know that I'm going to have one of them installed shortly as we get ready to roll and I don't know if there is any big difference. I do know that I can get NFL Ticket on Direct TV. I'm just a homer so don't know if that would be a big deal to me if the cost difference was great.
Also thinking that I would get the kind that is kept secured to the ladder and could put out from any cover giving a better shot of seeing open sky. ?
Has anyone done a comparison?
Both services will work fine. It will come down to channel preferences.
check their channel line-ups.

RE: awening won't roll up straight.

Just bought the 5er a couple weeks ago and checked the awening in the dark so we never noticed how it was rolled up. Since then I have had it out 4 times trying to get it straight with no success. Anyone have any clue what is going on here? I'm thinking it was like this before aqnd something must be sprung or something.

While the awning is open, slide the material to the right a little. (it will slide in the channel)
I had the same problem. Once I realligned the material with the awning roller my problem was solved.

RE: I know it is early...but here's a winterization question...

We use our MH year round. This does not mean I dont winterize it, I do each time we come home. It takes 20mins...
1. Open fresh water tank drain
2. Open outdoor shower
3. Remove hot water heater plug
4. After "gravity" finishes up, I blow air through all the lines
5. Pour pink stuff down the traps and toilet, and suck a little into the water pump
Thats it...

RE: Best place to list RV for sale

Hello all,
Where is the best place to list an RV that I would like to sell?
Thanks.
Bought and sold using CL and Ebay...
If you really want to "sell" then you must consider we are still in a buyers market...
Most MH's are "deals" and will sell just under NADA low value. This does not mean your RV is a "low value machine", it simply ignores the orignal MSRP, because no one, and I mean no one pays the "original MSRP"...
You will see MH's listed for sale and the seller will list the original window sticker and say "this rig sold for ???? when brand new"...
The reality is, the rig probably sold for close to 30% less than that number...
Remember to list plenty of "quality" pictures and mention all the little things that are wrong or need work...
Believe it or not, honesty is still the best policy...
Good Luck,

RE: New Jersey turnpike

AAA has me routed around New York city on New Jersey Turnpike up to I-287N. How is the traffic on the turnpike on a thursday morning around 10am?
10am where?
If you are near the city you are probably still going to hit traffic...
11:30ish to 2:30ish is the magic window during daylight hours...

RE: Buying an RV having a loan balance

If we buy a MH on which the owner still has a loan balance with his bank, how does that work for us, the buyer? Do we and the seller go the bank and settle up there?
Contact the sellers bank, tell them you are purchasing the motorhome and you would like to know how to go about transfering the title...
Chances are you will write two checks (one to bank, one to owner)...
Closing could happen there, or "over-nighting" documents back and forth will work if both parties are in different states...
Eitherway, contact the bank and make sure the "vin" number on the loan matches the MH you are buying...
Good luck,
