RE: Camper Theft

I think I remember someone posting a topic like this a few years back. They said that they attached a long bar or piece of wood across the front of the TC so it would not fit into a truck bed. I wonder if one couldn't lock a long piece of pipe the same way so the TC could not be loaded into a bed. Maybe padlock each end to the jacks.

RE: Southern Utah’s Highway 12

I love almost all of Utah. I have driven most of it also BEFORE the freeway days. I never tire of seeing travel posts about it. Great stuff!

RE: trailer hitch weight reduction and trailer leveling

I had the same problem and traded my near new Ram2500 for a SRW Ram3500 1T to allow me to CARRY the pin weight. I am glad I did but I didn't like trading a truck in with only 7800 miles on it.
The dealer LOVED me though! :B

RE: Mobile Suite experience in 3 months

You MAY question the OP about his troubles but do NOT turn this into a thread about his honesty. The next that does gets deleted with no comment.
If you cannot give some good advice, save the typing .

RE: Useing Landing Gear to lift onto jack stands?

I do that each time I use the trailer. FIRST I block the trailer wheels so it cannot move!
I level the unit then I put the jacks stands near the ends of the rear of the frame. I raise the stands so they are about 1/2" higher than the frame bottom.
Then I lower the front end and slide the jack stands under the rear of the frame.
Then I raise the front end until I am level again. That puts most of the weight on the rear jack stands and the front jacks. The trailer STILL sits on the tires but the four point contact takes the bounce an sway out of the unit when we are using it. So far no problems and I have done that with three makes of 5th wheels. I have NOT experienced any binding of the doors or windows either.

RE: duallie or single

14,200#!!?? Mine is 12,440# and I have only 400# before I am over the GVWR. I wouldn't even think to try towing that with a SRW 1T truck of any make.

BruceStarkey,
Thanks. I am watching this and reading. It has been close to going off the rails but is still close so it will keep running. But please do a little better at staying on the rails.

RE: "MY" perfect RV type...

You said "I also want to be able to drive along a densely wooded state highway and dodge off onto a 30 foot long "mini-turnout" when I see a spot where I want to get out the camera and tripod." and that would preclude a larger size 5th wheel. So my suggestion would be a 4X4 truck and a 24 - 27 foot 5th wheel. That would allow you to venture out and still maintain the creature comforts you would like. Being single you don't need ALL them amenities having a wife would entail. So I think that 4X4 combo would fit the bill and give you the flexibility that I think you are asking for. And I do see that you mentioned "dodge" too. That would be good!:B Good luck.

RE: Clunking sound at stop and start.

Mine did that too. I asked the dealer about it and he said to grease the part of the pin the jaws go around. I did and it stopped. The pin needs to be able to move slightly and if it is dry it will bind and make noise. Try the grease. Also grease the saddle block too.

RE: 12V disconnect switch

If the switch if open then the batteries are not connected to anything. That is the feature to keep them from draining slowly. Put the switch into the CLOSED position to charge them.

RE: duallie or single

I use a Dodge SRW 1T CTD to tow my Alfa. BUT I wouldn't tow anything heavier than it is and it weighs 12,440# ready to travel. The pin weighs 2160#. I would go to a DRW if heavier! Yours?

RE: Front Living room - any out there?

39 feet long and ONLY 2175# pin weight!! Does it have three axles. That is a light pin for a long 5th wheel that can gross over 15.6K#.

RE: Locked? Why?

Two answers: One, I re-size and always ask that the pictures be posted with a width of 640 so they do not open a window beyond the capacity of SOME monitors. That saves side scrolling.
Answer two is I closed the thread because the answer was found and the question resolved. From now on if you have a problem with me closing a thread use a PM. Otherwise I will close them with out answering. If that is not enough for you, PM ADMIN and ask them about my methods.
This one is closed too.

RE: loss

2oldman,
You are partially correct. I have been RVing since 1966 and am familiar with most if not all RVs. I came into a small amount of cash that allowed me to go to the DP MH in hopes it would make travel easier for the wife. It didn't! It scared the heck out of her. It was also a unit that the Itasca workers messed up as part of their bargaining with Winnie guys. They didn't care that the buyer would be the loser. I actually came across two others that suffered the same maladies.
So I wont ever buy a Winnie product again. Oh yes, I tried to talk to them too. After the third call they refused to accept them anymore. They send me $2500 as a "consolation prize". So much for their caring about customers. Unfortunately, Nevada's "Lemon Law" does not cover motorhomes.
