Grand Manan Island,NB.

Don't know how many of you have made the trip out to Grand Manan and stayed at The Anchorage Provincial Park but word came out today that the park is closed and will not open this year due to budget cutbacks.I'm not going to get into the politics of it but if anybody's interested in signing an online petion you can pm me. Thanks Skip

RE: Route from Bangor, Maine to St. John's New Brunswick

Rte 9 is the way to go.And Rte 1 in New Brunswick has been rebuilt/expanded and is quite nice. There's an Irving just after you turn onto Rte 1 where you can top off and then use the newer border crossing without having to wind your way into downtown Calais.

RE: Not Yet for ferry to Yarmouth, NS

There had been some discussion in the Portland paper about helping fund the next ferry operation. Not likely to happen as we have our own budget issues here. Two things killed the Cat.Splitting the runs between Bar Harbor and Portland took away from Bar Harbor and didn't generate anywhere near as much revenue as was estimated. And high speed ferries, although cutting transit times down considerably, burn huge amounts of fuel by comparison to conventional operations.Start ups are not what you want to consider when getting a run going because they will operate at a loss for the first 2-3 years until well established.

RE: Looking for a punch recipe

Cran-raspberry juice, Orange-pineapple juice and Gingerale. Mix in equal parts (or your preference). All can be purchased pre-made. If you want to fancy it up you can add sliced fruit (oranges, lemons etc.) for garnish. This is a real thirst quenching juice. Hope it works for you. Susan

RE: Best route from Kingston NY To Scarborough Maine

Drop down to Newburgh and catch 84 east to 90 east(Mass Pike) to 495 north which puts you back on 95 at the Mass/NH line. The hills on 84 are lot easier than 90 out of Albany.IMHO

RE: Any diesel shortages on I-95 in Northeast due to hurricane?

GasBuddy.com has an android app.Just checked and there are a bunch of stations in the Bayonne area that opened overnight.I would think if you stayed west of the Delaware River and headed up towards 84 you wouldn't have a problem. And a few days will make a difference...hopefully. RE: Any diesel shortages on I-95 in Northeast due to hurricane?

I drove down from Maine to Staten Island this morning (95,495,290,84,91,95) and until coastal CT everything looked fine. The service areas along 95 west of New Haven were lit up.I can't speak to shortages although I think the real problem is no back up generators=no way to pump fuel. RE: Fuel Stop around Calais, Maine before entering Canada

We always top off at that Irving just after you get off The Airline.Probably 5 minutes from the new crossing.

RE: Upgrading from PUP to HTT- Jayco, Dutchmen, Keystone, ???

We had a Starcraft Antigua 215sb that we towed with our Trailblazer. Loved the camper for all of the reasons you mention (and it had the 3 bunks too!). We had a transmission cooler installed in the car. Towing was okay. Getting up to speed on the highway took some time. Then we had the opportunity to tow it with our son's Chevy 1500 truck- huge difference- read- improvement. So, my story is you can tow a hybrid that size with a Trailblazer but you may want to think of upgrading your tow vehicle at some point. Good luck with the hybrid- you get the best of both (camping) worlds!! Susan

RE: STONERIDGE

We have a KZ Durango 1500 5th wheel. Got it in March of this year. Love it!! Our dealer (the service manager) can't rave enough about how easy KZ is to work with. Good Luck.

RE: Time to get your cobbler on

Thanks for the recipe. Think this is the time to try one in the Dutch oven! Looks great! Any tips for me how to cook this in a dutch oven outside with coals? Thanks in advance :)

RE: Zucchini

Chocolate Zucchini Cake This is almost exactly what I make. I put in chocolate chips instead of the nuts! Not too sweet, but full of chocolate flavor. You would never know there was zucchini in there. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chocolate-zucchini-cake-iii/ Enjoy!! Susan

95 to Bangor,9 to Calais/St Stephen,Rte 1 to 176 to Black's Harbor.Rte 1 above Machias isn't a great road. Grand Manan is absolutely beautiful. We try to get up there every year.
