RE: Summer Vacation is finally here. Can't wait to get going!

Have a great tour!
We did Ma Neff 3 weeks ago, and Meridian 2 weeks ago!
We were kind of lazy and did not hike the trails much (done them many times). Meridian is fantastic for hiking. Lots of trails, and also a mile-and-a-half loop road which is fabulous for hiking at night by moonlight.

RE: Tip for the day...always carry some fresh water...

Yep just this past weekend Meridian State Park (Texas) had a big water leak - luckily I was able to fill my tank before they cut off the water to fix the leak.

RE: Sluggish towing with GMC Yukon

I know the newer engines can handle higher revs, but I still like to dawdle along at 55 MPH and 2500 RPM. Much quieter, and I only have 3.3 L to work with (minivan). The up side is that I manage 12 MPG (if no head wind).

RE: For the new travel trailer owners, things that happen to me.

Here's a (probably only partial) list of all the things I have forgotten at one time or another when pulling a TT:
left the step down.
did not lock the refrigerator door.
did not turn off the water heater gas valve.
left the fresh water fill cap off.
left the home-made awning sun-shield on.
did not lock the entry door.
left the water pump on.
I keep telling myself if I just take my time and pay attention I won't forget any of this stuff, but I should just break down and make an actual check list.

RE: Noisy Water

Your water pump may be on by accident. So it runs when you open a faucet because the pressure in the lines drops. I accidentally turn my pump on sometimes as it is on the wall next to the stove.

RE: Towing with a Minivan??

I tow a small TT with a minivan. Longest trip has been from TX to NY and back no problems. Just not quickly. I can go 60 but am much happier at 55. 12 MPG.
Which one do you have?
The TT is a 16' Skyline Mountainview Retro 140, 7'-0 wide, 2170# empty. The minivan is a 2004 Dodge (no tow package - as I said I take it easy when towing).

RE: Memorial Day dissapointment

I think you have experienced a statistical anomaly. Whether in a state park, private camp ground, or even dry camping on the beach, we typically see plenty of flags. No matter what the date.

RE: Full time living floor plans (travel trailer) suggestions

The Keystone Premier 30REPR has a rear living area with opposing slides which is very similar to some fiver floor plans.

RE: Tools you pack along in your TT?

In the TT: A small floor jack, a shovel, wood blocks, multimeter.
I carry all my automotive tools with me in the van. Not a giant collection of tools, just what I've come to need over the years for simple repairs such as the alternator swap during last year's TX coast trip (what a way to spend a vacation day):

RE: air conditioner leaking water into camper

If it's an occasional drip it may just be condensation forming on cooled parts after the air leaves the evaporator fins. Is it very humid? This happened to us in our old poorly-insulated TT down on the hot texas coast.

Wow the i15Q is a VERY nice little travel trailer. I had no idea anyone made a small high-end trailer like that (other than little airstreams I guess). Enjoy!

RE: Houston, TX to Columbus, OH this Summer

We did a leisurely cross-country-type trip when the kids were kids. We bought season passes for 6-flags and hit every park in the eastern half of the country.

RE: Lessons we've learned over the years

Luckily I started out with an inexpensive 23-year-old TT with which to learn the finer points of RVing. The first thing I did when getting it home was hook it up to water WITHOUT using the pressure regulator. The second thing I did was run to the hardware for pipe fittings and glue to fix the new leaks.

RE: Kill the Suds

I would say just a few slivers of bar soap down the drain. When I was a little kid my mom would make bubble bath for us with dish liquid. As soon as we introduced bar soap to the tub for the required scrubbing, the bubbles disappeared.

RE: Is it very windy in Aransas Pass,TX/Rockport,TX areas

I stayed at Pioneer in Port Aransas last week. We had winds from all points during the week and gusts up to 40 one day (and temps in the low 50s boo!). Everyone was prudent with their awnings and I saw no damage.
Last year I tied my folding chairs to the bumper of the TT while dry-camping on Lavaca Bay, afraid the wind would carry them off while unattended.
