RE: Dash Cam

The battery will last for a couple of hours but it has a mini usb charger that works with 12VDC or 110VAC. In addition you can set it to loop the recording on the SD card. Depending on the size of your SD card and the video quality setting, the card can hold 15-20 hours of video prior to looping. The video is great quality and I have found a lot of other uses for the camera. They have a website that is pretty informative if your interested. How long can the GoPro record 1080P before running out of space or battery? I use the GoPro Hero3 camera mounted on my dash. It works great and can also be used for various other movies during a trip.

RE: Dash Cam

For $200 you could get a Gopro camera that loops and has real HD quality.

RE: Looking for new insurance

Its not only Flo that raises rates, If you dont shop them near your renewal time, its shame on you for paying the increased rate without doing some comparison. I recently did the due diligence and compared 5 companies. I got rates from $855 to $2130 for identical coverages.

RE: Datron DBS 3000-300 Sat System

Direct TV contacted me to say that my 2 receivers needed to be modified to prevent a possible fire problem. These receivers were bought outright several years ago and owned my me. When they replaced them. I noticed on my Direct TV account page that the receivers were now listed as "leased" instead of the previous listing of "owned". I called them and they confirmed that they now owned my receivers and were leasing them to me. I screamed at them and e-mailed but they wouldnt budge so I dropped them and moved over to Dish Network after purchasing 2 new receivers. I didnt want leased receivers b/c I need to have the ability to start and stop service when I want. Just FYI, Direct dosent like you to own the receivers.

RE: Adding third roof air conditioner, fitment question.

Exactly, we have a 10 KW genny but I doubt I would run all the a/c's on the genny much at all even though the 10 KW would handle it. The Phaeton had a 12.5 KW with 3 15,000 a/c's and we were never too hot. I think I found a Dometic penguin that has a 17" X 17" inside grill that will work....hopefully.With our last coach we had two 13,500 Dometics and I replaced them with two 15k units. Couldn't tell a huge difference, very slight if any better. That was a 38 1/2' Beaver Contessa with NO slides. If I turned the A/C on earlier in the day the cooling units could keep up for the most part and keep us somewhat comfortable. If the ambient temperature would get into the mid-90's or higher and we didn't turn them on until we returned from sightseeing or a day playing in the sand dunes, forget about it, it was not going to pull all of that heat out of the coach. When we started looking to upgrade in 2006-2007 we had an unusual requirement, we wanted to stay with a maximum length of 40', I wanted triple roof airs with a 10k genset. Almost impossible to find. Once you go to 42' and up triple roof airs and the larger gensets were pretty much standard. We lucked out and found a 40' with the Onan 10k and triple roof air conditioners that the original owners had special ordered. What a difference! Now even with three slides adding cubic feet of interior space, we can turn on the A/C units in the heat and within an hour or so we are turning them down because it is getting too cool inside. Love the three roof air units. Mike.

RE: Adding third roof air conditioner, fitment question.

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate your help. The a/c's are working properly with 55 degree air coming out of the vents closest to the units, its just not enough cooling capacity for my liking when we are in hot areas. The coach is wired for a 3rd a/c in the hallway vent location so wiring isnt an issue, just the relative distance to the passengers side wall and the # of existing vents to handle the increased airflow if the 3rd unit were to be ducted. The coach is painted in dark colors which dosent help. Prior to this coach we had a 42 Tiffin Phaeton with 3 15K ac's and it did a good job at cooling even in summer at Las Vegas. This one is adequate unless the temps go above 90 then I would like to have the extra cooling capacity to cool the interior to 72 or so. I just think for the relatively small cost of another a/c that it would be worth it not to be uncomfortable without the use of additional air circulating fans. I have installed and replaced roof airs and have a forklift so I dont see the downside to adding another cooling unit since the wiring is already in place.

Adding third roof air conditioner, fitment question.

Currently our 03 Beaver Patriot has 2 roof air conditioners, both are the Dometic Penguin 13,500's and are ducted into the center duct on the coach. There are (6) 6" X 6" ducts running front to back. There is a roof vent near the center of the coach that I would like to add another a/c in. The potential problem is that there is only 2 3/4" between the passengers side of the vent opening and the hallway wall. The existing duct work is approx 5" away from the drivers side of the vent opening. I am trying to learn if there is a a way to make the third a/c work either by adding it to the existing duct work or use it non-vented. My concern is that I would have to add more vents to the duct plus add duct to attach the new a/c to the existing duct work. Since I only plan on using the 3rd unit when in high temp environments, I think it would be easier to install a duct less model but I have only the 2 3/4" space to fit the inside plastic air return. I called Dometic who told me to call a dealer who said that they were booked for 2 weeks. Anybody got a solution? I have approx 19" width to work within the hallway.

RE: My experience with King Controls (VuQube/KingDome)

I have had no good experiences with King Controls. The in motion antenna that came on our coach worked poorly and King told me I needed to upgrade the software. OK, then I had to send them $500 deposit and pay $100+ for the software upgrade and it still didnt work any better. Finally got a portable sat receiver that works great from Winegard.

RE: Verizon Mi-Fi Models - Newest?

True, you cant originate or receive calls while tethered, but my wife has a phone also that can be used for outgoing and my phn # can be forwarded to hers for incoming calls so Im really not losing any services that Im aware of. Also I get a 20% employer discount from Verizon so its actually less for me to increase my data plan w/ Verizon than to move to Millenicom for the 5-6 months a year that we are on the road. When were at home, I scale back the data to 2GB shared between both our phones and I have never used all of the 2 GB. Since Verizon will allow you to change your data plan as the need changes, Im thinking of starting with 12GB and monitor the use should it need to be increased. The way I see it is that Verizon charges you $50/month for 1 GB of data for a smart phone. They charge $10/ each additional 2GB. So if you bought 20GB from Verizon it would cost you $100/mo for the additional data above the 1 GB that you are required to pay for using a smart phone. Millenicom charges you $70 for that same amount of data plus $100 for the equipment $50 for acct set-up, and $15 for shipping. Thats $165 out of pocket for the initial set up. So unless you intend on using Millenicom for longer than about 5-6 months, it might be cheaper to add to your Verizon data plan and tether your smart phone. It appears to me that 20 GB on Verizon would be $30/month more than Millenicom if you figure in the $50/month that your going to have to pay Verizon for that initial 1GB? Am I thinking wrong? so your extra data would cost you another $95 am on the on a phone pluses taxes . There are no taxes from Millenicom . Also if you are using your phone for Data it cannot be used to make a call . So if you have to make a call you have to disconnect all your devices from the internet . Millenicom makes sense if you use the internet for for more that checking mail.

RE: Tethering Speed

Also using the smart phone for tethering sucks up the battery rapidly. You almost need to have it plugged in to the charger for any lenghty use.

There is a city bus stop directly outside the gate at Travelers World. They can drop you off at all the local attractions for a very reasonable fare.

RE: Anyone tow a 6000 pound dingy?

We tow a 1500 Dodge Ram 4X4 with a 1000# ATV in the bed. We towed it over 20K miles with no issues, cant tell if fuel economy is reduced, Im sure it is some but I cant tell.

RE: resetting window with foam backing?

I reinstalled it the way it was and after the silicone dried, I ran water over the window for 30 minutes and not a drop made it thru. Looks like its got 2 lives anyway.

resetting window with foam backing?

I removed a window from our 2003 Beaver to recaulk it. When I removed it I found no leaks and the seal was comprised of the compression of the foam type backing on the back of the window by tightening the interior frame to the exterior frame using the numerous screws. There was also a bead of silicone over the top and 1/2 way down the sides on the exterior. My question is, may I reinstall the window in the same way it was originally installed reusing the foam compression or should I use some type of caulk?

RE: Leaving Progressive, good bye Flo!!

Progressive almost doubled our rate just last week with no claim history, started shopping and found several that were lower than the Progressive rates prior to the increase. It pays to shop, wish I would have done it sooner.

RE: Norcold 1201 LRim cooling unit

Nevercold is******and dangerous. I wouldnt use a rebuilt Norcold cooling unit. Maybe Amish or residential. You can find a res unit that cools better and has 2X the interior space for less than either cooling unit options. Also a res will fit in the spot that the Nevercold came out of.

RE: RV Remodel - Flat Screen TV update

Or you can use a wireless HDMI transmitter/receiver for $150-200. No wiring necessary and they work great. Search Google, there are several brands available, some with multiple receivers for multiple TV's.

RE: Winegard vs King-Dome Satellite for Direct-TV

King Dome ( King Controls) have very crappy and expensive customer service. I got rid of mine and went with the Winegard Traveler with Dish network. Now we have HD and pay for the service only when we are using it. Much better. The King Dome was always giving us problems.
