RE: Looking to cross the border in early October

We just had 5, thats FIVE, murders in Fernly NV about 3 days ago. Someone broke into one house, murdered the couple, went to a place a couple of blocks away, broke in and murdered that couple and stole their truck, headed to Reno, got stuck in a ditch, murdered the station attendant and stole his truck, returned to Fernly, parked the truck in the garage of the people he murderd, and set the house on fire. He was apprehended breaking into another house in the neighborhood. Not safe to live in Nevada I guess.

RE: Dental work, Mexico

butchfuzion, to get to Algodones, you cross into CA on I8 and go a couple of miles and you will see a sign to Algodones. Take that exit and follow the road. Park on the US side, the local tribe has a LARGE parking lot, and walk across.

RE: Border Agents rude and difficult at Nogales

As I stated below, I send a message about our border crossings to the link posted by kca87. I have only had problems twice, and they were quickly resolved, once in Algodones, and once in Port Angeles WA, but I don't think I'm on any watch list. I always sign with my full name and title, CWO4, USCG (RET)

RE: Border Agents rude and difficult at Nogales

I have done the same as kca87, and sumitted complaints AND kudos about my border crossings. I have always received a polite reply. BTW I always go through Lukeville/Sonoyta and have never had any problems.

RE: Diesel fuel stolen or ??????

We won't stop there anymore, Carole takes the La Penita caravan to the Pemex listed below as two different years bicycles were stolen there.

RE: Overhead View Of CABORCA Car Permit Facilities

The INM office is still in the same old place in San Emeterio, 27 KM east of Sonoyta, or right before the US border in Sonoyta. There is NO INM office at the Caborca facility.

RE: Border wait times!

Crossed at Lukeville on the 22nd, 2 cars ahead of us, waited maybe ten min. Agent took our passport, asked in anyone was in the camper, told hin "one cat and half a bowl of cat food" he laughed and waved us through. Our Canuck traveling partners were flagged for search, they and the dogs were escorted to the building and their MH and Toad was searched, the supervisor liked the Wirmeraner and told them he had one as a kid, took them about 25 min. They were treated very politely.

RE: Travel Plans for 2013/2014

I suggest you get "Travelers Guide to Mexican Camping" by Mike and Terri Church, and go to www.ontheroadin.com. There are quite a few campgrounds between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

Bought my cell phone at Telcel and didn't have to show anything in November.

RE: HOW FULL ARE RV PARKS

We see more Mexicans with RVs in the La PeƱita RV park every year. There are 3 or 4 pop ups in the park already, plus a couple of trailers. Mexicans seem to like smaller rigs than us gringos.

RE: where to cross in California?

I'm pretty sure that the $400 and the $50 are both for your car. The TIP costs about $50 for each and, depending on the age of the car either $200, $300, or $400 as a deposit. There is NO deposit required on the motorhome. Since nothing showed up at the end while doing your MH, it probably didn't go through.

RE: where to cross in California?

$400 for the car is a deposit and you will get it back wnen you turn in the hologram when you leave Mexico. Make sure you stop at an Aduenda and turn it in. We have had ours returned in 3 days.

RE: Mr. Moro

Stopped there on 25 October. The road in was a goat trail, there was no water, really bad electric hookup, and the campground was NOTHING like the Churches book, the campground web site or www.ontheroadin.com described. Really run down, and half the sites were covered with a sand dune. But we did have a decent meal that evening. Wouldn't recommend it even for someone I didn't like.

RE: American beef confiscated at border

When we stopped for a few days in Mazatlan at the Punta Cerritos RV park a Canadian couple that have a lot there was telling us that they had all their beef AND all their salmon confiscated at Lukeville. They were p!ssed. We had several pounds of Costco Organic hamburger in our freezer and they didn't even check. And the next night several rigs bound for La Penita came in and we all had a great pot luck with barbequed salmon that one of our Canadian friends had brought down from BC through Lukeville. Go Figgure.

Came through Lukeville/Sonoyta on Oct 20th and had NO problem with a 180 day FMM.

RE: Culican to Mazatlan toll road

I will try to make this as easy as I can. When you are coming SOUTH on MX 15 D between Guasave and Culican, and get to the KM 16 marker NORTH of Culican, take your eyes off your GPS screen, turn down the sound, and GET INTO THE LEFT LANE!!! The bypass is so you don't have to drive through the industrial area at CULICAN, you will come out just before PEMEX 4006.

RE: Lukeville vs Nogales crossing

I would never cross at Nogales going south or north. Every time I have crossed there going south, I've had to wait in line for at least a half an hour or more, pay for copies of the FMM, and it is farther for me to drive too, although I8 and I10 are marginally better than MX 2 between Sonoyta and Sta. Ana. I have never had any problems at Sonoyta.

Bahia de Kino to Guaymas

23 October Bahia de Kino to Guaymas Left Islandia RV park in Old Kino about 9:30 this morning and checked into the El Cortez Hotel RV Park In Miramar at 1:30 this PM. A bit of a PITA getting through Hermosillo but had no problems. The highway from Hermosillo to Guaymas is as rough as ever, but with the camper you only feel the bumps once instead of twice with the 5th wheel. There is road work starting about 25 KM north of Guaymas with a switch over to the northbound lanes for a few miles. Weather is great here, nice sea breeze. There is some construction in the RV park and many of the spaces along the fence are torn up but there is plenty of room. There are 5 other rigs here tonight.
