RE: Banks Power for E450 Triton V10

We have a 2003, E450, 28’ Bigfoot with the Banks Power Pack package consisting of headers & exhaust, K&N air filter and a Transcommand module by Banks that helps with the shifting properties of the transmission. Traveling at 55 to 60 MPH pulling an aluminum trailer with two Suzuki 750 ATVs this last trip we got 9 mpg +/- going over Donner Summit (7000’ +) to Carson City, NV. from Oroville Calif. and return.
Interstate 80 and hwy. 20 in Calif. is about as steep as I have traveled with this rig and the V10 would get down to 45 MPH on a few steep occasions on Hwy 20 consuming as much gas as the fuel pump would pump but the overall uphill downhill rendered the above mileage. The Banks Power Pack is a BIG improvement in performance and when we travel on the flatter /straighter roads in the valley the rig is like a sports car. I just got a Scan Gage from Santa and have not had a chance to use it yet but looking forward to seeing what it does.

RE: rear end gear ratio, location of Electronic Control Module

Thanks Gentlemen for responding with all of the advice. As soon as all of that liquid sun shine stops here in Northern Calif. I will crawl under the BigFoot and see if it has a tag on the rear end. The PCM on my E450 is located on the driver’s side, under the hood on the firewall and is behind the radiator surge container,…a little hard to get to. My understanding is that I can order the five star controller and install it in the OBDII port and the read out on the screen will list the PCM number/ code that is needed. I would then need to call / email Mike at five star with that information and he will email me the tunes for my specific PCM. The three tunes that I will select will be 87 Economy, 87 Tow and 87 Performance.
I have the Banks power pack on it now,( Headers, K&N cold air filter) and am curious how the Five Star tuner works,….Mike has a money back guaranteed so will see what happens.
He is having a sale now for this controller and if you are interested the sale link is :

rear end gear ratio, location of Electronic Control Module

How do I find the rear end gear ratio on a 2002 BigFoot 30MH27DSL Moter Home, also where is the Electronic Control Module (ECM) located on the E450 V 10 as I would like to install a 5 Star Programmer and I need the serial/model number on the ECM and the numerical rear end gear ratio.
Thanks for any help on this.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Installed a wireless backup camera and monitor in my 17 year old Chateau class C. Not easy access for hooking up the power to the camera. Had to lay under the rear bunk bed to get to wiring behind the water tank. No easy access to other source of power. Finally got it hooked up. Works great. I travel alone and don't always know what is behind me so the camera will be well appreciated.
What wireless backup camera and monitor did you purchsd,....I am thinking of doing the same thing as I haul two ATVs on a trailor that I cant see from the drivers seat. Tell me how good is it and a link to the one that you have.

RE: Synthetic Oil in Onan Generator?

I also use Shell Rotella 15W-40 synthetics in my Onan and Mobil 1 Extended Performance in the Ford V10. The Rotella 15W-40 synthetic is also used in all of our ATV and Motercycles and the John Deer rideing mower never had a problem with any of our equipment from a lubracation stand point. Cheep insurance.

Check your Ford V 10 for rats nest.

We have just purchased a used Ford, E450, BigFoot, 2002, Class C, motor home with the Ford V 10 engine. It has the Banks Power Pack intake/ headers package and while I was servicing the K&N intake filter I looked down through the small opening at front of the engine intake manifold that’s sits above the engine “Y” area where there is a large space under the manafold and much to my dismay found a large rat/ desert pack rat nest. The motorhome came from Los Vegas and I purchased it in Northern Cali. That large straw filled nest has been in there for a questionable amount of time and it is a wonder that the engine heat driving up from Vegas did not start a fire.
I had to take off the back engine dog house cover and use an electric leaf blower and a stick to probe the nest from the front and back of the engine to blow all of that straw/poop out of there,….what a mess.
Take a look at yours as you might have a surprise.

RE: Opinions on new RV's

I had a LazyDays and we sold it, then ten years later we purchased a 2002 BigFoot and it is on a par with the LazyDays if not better. To bad that BigFood stoped making Class c motorhomes as they make the best slide in camper.

RE: Trip Report - San Diego to Santa Cruz

Thanks for responding RZAR66 and the "riding like a brick" with the beefed up sespention of an F350 v F250 in a standered cab would be a little rougher than if it was an extended cab or a crew cab because of the added weight. Our cross to bear for having truck campers. 8>)

RE: Trip Report - San Diego to Santa Cruz

Nice pictures and GOOD LOOKING pickup and camper setup. I am admiring your Ford F350 with the 6.2 gas as I am planning to purchase one just like yours but with an extended cab. I was curious what rear end ratio you have, what was your gas mileage and how did it handle your 850 camper?? I have a 2008 F250 EC with the 6.4 that I haul a BigFoot 2500C8.11B and there is no lack of power but I only get 11 to 13 MPG and the “reliability of the 6.4 diesel sucks” to the point of a lemon Law suit. How does your F350 ride empty as this would be a major consideration??
