RE: generator in an old rv

you should have a converter/charger and may even have a converter/charger/inverter installed. The purpose is to supply 12 volts when plugged in and charge the batteries. If your batteries charge now when plugged in they should charge with generator installed and wired as described above.

RE: generator in an old rv

As Bear said most manuals are available on the Onan site. As far as wiring the quickest easiest is to put a jbox with a female socket in it that feeds the motorhome. Then put a matching male plug on you power cord and anther matching plug on the cord from the genset. This solves transfer switch issues and is the simplest connection, and how manufacturer's used to wire the units.

RE: Merger of GS CW makes Rally an infomercial

One with any of the rallies no matter who puts it on, they are expensive to put on especially at the scale if the GS rally. Someone has to pay for it, now that can be really expensive tickets for the attendees, or sponsors being soaked in fees or some combination of the above. I believe the real difference is CW is the main commercial sponsor now, but at least when we attended Phoenix last, by no means the only one. The original concept behind GS is long gone of just a bunch of people that like to camp and get together and plan some service type events that enhanced the camping experience. Some of this was driven by US the members, as I tell my kids all the time careful what you ask for you may get it! You see posts here all the time what do I GET for being a member of GS. We want discounts, services, this board etc. Our parents and grandparents grew up with sharing the work so that they could afford to do things. My generation and especially the younger generations following are used to paying for what they want not participating. Think abut it what chance would cable TV have had of making it in the 60's? You want me to PAY to get TV!!! Same with rallies, they used to be small and all volunteer and meals were joint adventures, like most RV.net rallies. Now though we want vendors, we want classes and no we don't want to teach them! We want to be entertained and kept busy. "We have met the enemy and he is us."

RE: syracuse RV parking question?

Yes you are issued a badge with your name, when you are in the camping area you are in the rally. Your friends fee only covers 2 adults.

RE: One card one account one membership

That would be how AAA does it, my card was a two year but if I but had to pay annual dues or wasn't good.

RE: One card one account one membership

Thank you for the response Wes but part of my point was a single account period. So my member number for roadside assist and GS would be the same along with a single account and card to carry.

RE: One card one account one membership

One my points Brian is with multiple accounts you can easily miss one when updating things like email and password.

One card one account one membership

I just joined roadside assist, now I.have 2 cards accounts and passwords. Have you ever thought of tying all services to.our GS card? Then I log in once and can manage anything GS that I belong to once! I can't forger to.update a changed email or other contact on an individual service. One place to set preferences and will save GS storage space and compute poser by store once with just an added field or two.for everything beyond the base membership.

RE: Great Customer service today

As both a member of this forum and a Good Sam member I want to thank you also. We see plenty of post about any company when they mess up but far too few when they do good!

RE: Changes in Highways magazine

Great point Jeffcarp! People need to remember that magazines are expensive to produce and mail. If we don't want to pay $5-7 an issue then advertising can be reduced. The other challenege that all activity based magazines have is repeating content as there are only so many tech articles or even discovery articles you can write before you start rehashing old subjects. Marcus has a tough job in a slow economy, face it our "hobby" is disposable income based and many people have from none to very little of that right now and are very careful how it is spent. He has an obligation to give us value in all that he offers for product and service, or we will go somewhere else that does offer at least perceived value. At the same time he needs to make a profit, because if he doesn't no matter how much we like what he does he will go out of business and offer us nothing!

RE: CA 199 from Crescent City, CA to Grants Pass, OR

We have done it in our 36' Dolphin the opposite way from Grants Pass down to Crescent city but end of next week we will do it the way you are describing. No it is not as much fun in the motorhome as on my motorcycle or in my little BMW but it is very do able without remodeling the seats with crinkle marks from tightening sphincters! :B BTW we don't have the time on the way up but if you do I would continue up 101, we will come home that way the end of June. Need to get up to Portland after I do some work in Livermore next week for the birth of our first grandchild due May 20! :B :B

RE: How hot is it really in the summer. Arizona/New Mexico

Oh if we go on current we are at the coast in So. Cal, and today we hit new record for this date 100! Not helping the fire fighters with our fire much either! :(

RE: How hot is it really in the summer. Arizona/New Mexico

The good news is that virtually all boondocking areas will be vacant and there will be plenty of open sites in RV parks. ha and that is probably because no one is stupid enough to do be there in the summers. Ah but it is a dry heat unlike VA where the humidity is higher than the temp!:E LOL Seriously though when I lived in the desert during the we figured it was going to be a good day if it had dropped to double digits before dawn! 95-99 overnight is not uncommon! To my smart aleck comment above once it passes 100 it is just plain hot dry or not!

RE: Sac to Santa barbara

Why not pick up US101 in the Bay Area? GM gives similar times and distances for that, for crossing on 41/46, or going over the Grapevine. This would be my choice I hate the 5 through the valley and use 99 if I have to go that way. Matter of fact we will be at the TT in SB tomorrow and leave for Livermore on Sunday up the 101! :B

RE: Dingy towing a rear wheel drive vehicle??

Remco also lists the 6 speed manual as trailer only, as well as BMW's instructions for a tow truck, no wheels on the ground, flatbed or dolly wheels.
