RE: Can't make any Adjustments on my trailer brakes

Sounds like brake light hot wire is connected to the trlr brake pin on the connector. Do you have brake lights?
An easy way to test it is used a voltage meters and check each pin as the brakes are applied. Should be brake light hot when brakes applied, aux hot(all the time) and trlr brake hot when brakes applied (voltage will vary depending on gain set at controller. 3 hot total. If running lights are on then 4 hot total.

RE: Longest Satisfactory Use of Easy Lube Axles?

I am interested in hearing responses. I have a new 2013 fiver and am considering jacking the wheels and giving them a few squirts to make sure the factory adequately lubed them. I have read cases where they weren't, causing premature bearing failure.

RE: courgar 27RLSWE H20 pump location

It is likely located mounted on main floor surface inside a cabinet (sometimes have to remove drawer or false wood panel/screws to access it). Also is usually near where the outside city water or tank fill connection is. You should be able to pinpoint where it is located by sound when it is running. Keystone never installs them in the belly below the floor.

RE: Cable & Satellite Inputs

Satellite input provides direct feed to (usually) main TV in living room. Satellite signal has to be direct feed from dish to receiver box with new coaxial splitters in the circuit or interference with the rv antenna booster voltage. There should be a dedicated coax receptacle near the main TV.
The other cable in connector is wired into the same circuit as the rv antenna and all other outlets.

RE: Waxing Filon

I have always used Nufinish on my filon with good results. I make a point to do it once annually. Personally I wouldn't apply the Nufinish with a buffer as there are too many obstacles and the stuff goes on and rubs off so easily. I prefer applying and removing by hand so I don't miss a square inch and is much neater this way. I did half of the fiver yesterday and doing the other half today. 37' is a lot of area to cover and my body is feeling it.

Service Review for Camping World Rochester, NY

I have been rv'ing for about 15 years and into my 6th rv. The last 3 were purchased from Camping World. In the past I have shared my experiences on this forum with the Rochester NY Camping World Service Department; and all have been negative up until now.
In 2010, I had a very negative experience at this location where I was basically treated by the service department as if I was a mere inconvenience to their operation. I wont get into the details, but lets say I had to take matters into my own hands and get Keystone involved to rectify a frame issue. It appeared at the time that the service writer I was dealing with simply didn't care. Bottom line is that the frame issue was real and was eventually repaired (after 2 months and a lot of anguish on my behalf). I swore off CW for life at this point.
Jump forward to 2013. After flaming Camping World service department on this forum, I received a PM and phone call from the CW regional service manager begging me to give the Rochester location another chance. Well I decided I would give them a chance and bought traded in my 2010 fifth wheel for my current rig. The sales experience, PDI and delivery went well. I had a few PDI items repaired during the PDI and took delivery without an issue. It was obvious that they were making it a point to take good care of me, which they did.
After having the unit for one month, I found an issue with soft floor at the entry step (turned out to be a cracked frame weld), defective DVD player, defective power awning relay, two cracked drawer faces and loose weather stripping at the outside kitchen door.
I was very reluctant to bring the unit in for the warranty work due to my past experiences here, so I talked to the service manager and expressed my concerns. He assured me that the concerns would be confirmed and repairs made in a timely manner. I brought the unit in and had the service department look over and confirm my concerns. I told them I would bring the unit back once all the Keystone warranty approvals were in place and the replacement parts were on hand.
I brought the unit in this past Monday and picked it up today. All of the repairs were made to my satisfaction. The unit was clean, and the finish and caulk work on the outside (where the aluminum skirting was removed to repair the frame issue) looked impeccable.
Randy Rupp, the service writer was excellent to deal with. He returned my phone calls and emails and communicated with me well throughout the diagnostic, warranty approval and repair process. I am certain that I was a pain in his backside and am sure they have my photo on a dart board in their break room.
I would like to thank the service staff at the Rochester NY location for taking the time with me and make every effort to win me over. I will now recommend the service department and Randy to others. This was not the case a few weeks ago.
Thanks again

RE: Awning Dead- Anyone know what this is (photo)

My power awning is dead (first time use- under warranty, taking it to dealer tomorrow). I have diagnosed that power is gettinh past the rocker switch, but then goes to this black "awning controller" solid state switch inside the wall. Power does not go past it out to the awning motor. Does anyone know what this does and how it can go bad?
http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h425/therink65/20130422_175626.jpg
FYI- If your Dometic power awning is dead and you have power at the switch but not at the motor, it is likely that this black awning controller/relay is bad. Not all Dometic awnings have this style relay. Some do/some don't. This relay reverses the polarity to the awning motor. The relay was located in the wall behind the main wall control panel.
I had CW replace it and the awning works ok now.

RE: China Bombs Got Me

I just bought a new fiver and had the dealer put on a set of Firestone Transforce LT's as part of the deal. A 12,000 lb $40k rv should not be riding on a set of inferior $40 China Bombs, period.
Maxxis, Michelin Ribs or a good set of LT's are the way to go in my opinion. I put a set of Maxxis on my last fiver and never had a problem with them.

RE: screws in walls

I have always used short wood screws to install towel racks, TP holders, etc into the luan walls with no drilling or anchors and have never had a problem with hitting plumbing, electrical, etc. Wood screws actually hold very well as long as they are not over tightened when first installed.

RE: 1/2 ton towable 5th wheel

the term "half ton towabl" does NOT mean that ALL half ton trucks can tow it. It merely means that there are SOME that will tow the trailer without oveloading it. Give it a thought, it certainly wouldn't mean that the lowest powered and LEAST capable version offered by ANY manufacturer could tow it. I don't think I've ever heard ANY manufacturer of RVs make a claim that even MOST half ton trucks can tow their trailer.
Always check the SPECIFIC numbers for the SPECIFIC truck you plan on towing it with. For example, the Fords with a 11,300 lb. maximum trailer rating and up to 3,050 lb. payload umbers would be able to tow a whole lot of RVs that no other would be able to tow and stay within the ratings. That truck would CERTAINLY tow trailers that my own F 150 with it's 2,550 lb. payload would NOT be able to tow.
Good luck / Skip
Skip, your f150 with the HD payload option is definitely the exception to the rule as far as 1/2 tons go. Nice truck too :)

RE: 1/2 ton towable 5th wheel

And lot of manufacturers market "1/2 ton towable" fifth wheels. The reality is that most 1/2 ton pick ups have payload rating of around 1500 lbs. After subtracting 800 lbs for passengers, hitch and gear this leaves about 700 lbs for pin weight. I don't know of any fifth wheels that have a loaded pin weight that light. 700 lbs also limits gvwr of TT that should be towed with a 1/2 ton, though many people ignore the payload ratings when it comes to TT/tow vehicle matching.

RE: Bigger Freshwater Tank

That's a tough one. The tanks are installed to fit sandwiched between the cross members and can only be so tall (belly to floor). I suppose you could install a second sub floor tank if open space allowed between other cross members. I would think that with slide mechanisms and all, most space is usually used up. I have seen people carry a second tank in the truck bed and use a 12v transfer pump to fill the rv tank.

RE: 30 vs 50 amp electricity

I have found that I can run 15k ac continously and one heat generating appliance such as a hair dryer, or toaster or microwave without a problem (along with tv, lights, etc). Can't run all the above and ac if electric water heater is running. I always try to make sure CG 30amp plug and cord are not hot to touch.

Eastern Marine. I recently purchased 4 entire brake assemblies for dexter 5200lb axles for $157 including freight. Definitely the way to go. Repack bearings and replace grease seals at the same time.

RE: First trip and need new tires

My buddy bought a set of Carlisle E's last summer that were made in USA stamped on the side of them. That is why he bought them. Apparently Carlisle is making some of the tires here now. In your case I would recommend a good set of LT's.

On my last two trailers the radios have a flat plastic covers (vertically) on each side. Pop the covers off and remove 4 screws. Pulls right out. I have also seen where the plastic outer frame pops off and screws are under there.
