OP refers to "AC items like hair dryer" so I assumed "boonie AC" = boonie Alternating Current rather than A/C air conditioning.
I agree , I was simply giving the OP my use and equipment for comparison , which may or may not be helpful . I mention air conditioning because it needs much longer term alternating current than other short term usage such as hair dryers , micro , etc.

Not a Guru by any means but here is what I did that seems too work . I use a live feed to a lighted switch on the dash to activate the continuous duty solenoid . That allows me to open the 4 ga. line between truck and TC without the truck running so I can charge just TC batteries ( switch closed ) or both ( switch open ) when plugged into genny or shore power , same option while driving charging from the truck alternator . Much depends on the capacity of your existing converter/charger . I'm using a 50 amp Iota and it seems to do the job , but I am rarely stationary for more than 3 days and no AC .
PS enjoy the Expo , wish I was there .

According to the Dodge truck specs the 4500/5500 wheel base is only 1" longer than a 3500 , so I would say that your custom bed is extended 11" more in back of the axle than a standard pickup bed . That is not to say it is a problem just something to be aware of , which evidently
you are or you would not have posted the question . Take some measurements of truck and TC and get it weighed then you'll know whats going on . Sounds like a great rig .

RE: Idea for camp trailer / TC storage platform?
I use a trailer to store the TC and although I don't use it to tow behind , I could . A few things to consider , the trailer needs to be rated for the weight . It needs to be narrow enough to get the wheels past the jacks , old camper frames usually have a narrow axle and are good candidates . Most utility trailers have the axle too far forward for a camper with an overhang , you might have to move the axle back or weight the tongue to compensate . Even with that it's a good idea to put a jack under the back so it doesn't tip when you try to enter . You may have to put some pallets under the camper to get it high enough so the jacks clear , trailers are much lower than truck beds . Good luck

I for one would very much like to see it in operation . I suspect everything on it has a purpose . It doesn't look any more strange than some of the Aussie non-conventional TC's that have been posted .

Here is a picture of the antenna pole assembly with the bronze bushings before I put it back on the camper.
Those look really good . My plastic ones were cracked also but I salvaged them by using a SS band clamp around them .
Curious why you didn't use aluminum . Are you not concerned about the galvanic action ? I suppose in AZ it's not much of a problem . Do you still have the upper part of the antenna ?

I can only dream , 6000 mi round trip is just not in the cards right now . Lots of pics would be a treat . Mean while I will content myself with smaller excursions into the north woods . You folks are going to have a blast , safe travels .

I switched to Bilsteins on both my 2500HD and 3500DRW GM's and noticed a significant improvement over stock . Have no experience with KYB or Rancho 9000 but have heard good reviews .

RE: Truck camper meet-up at Overland Expo, Flagstaff, May
We'll plan on getting there sometime Thursday. Hitting the road tomorrow. Heading to Death Valley, wandering around AZ, attending the Vintage Camper Academy in Albuquerque the beginning of May, then up into the Utah Canyonlands and back down to Flagstaff from there. This will be are second major trip in our C11. Did four months and 13000 miles around the country last summer. But never saw another Avion camper. Looking forward to this. We're extending our original travel plans to add in Overland. I understand we found this thread late and spaces are already allocated. But we'll find some room somewhere in the field to squeeze in. See you there.

LOL , I know what you mean . The last time I saw an Avion TC on the road , besides mine , was 30 years ago . Wish AZ were a bit closer , I'd be there . Have a great time all .

I suspect that it started filling the water heater as soon as the water had reached the pump. Because the heater was very full very soon... We will see.

I think you are correct , path of least resistance . Until the water heater was full , or almost , you didn't have enough pressure in the system to come out the faucets .
I usually use the city water supply to fill the WH and lines first to check for leaks , and then try the pump , it also helps prime the pump having the lines full .

Something to keep in mind . Although Latex is the least durable of coatings it also has the least prep time to recoat in the future , it just wears off , no peeling . For your purpose it seems to be the simplest solution .

Apparently they widened the propane compartment for '69 , on my '68 the tanks are tight to each other and the side walls . I had to put some tape on the tanks to prevent metal to metal contact .

I find it interesting that this was called an Ultra model , The only Ultra's I've seen were under the Cayo name and had a rear dinette and squared front wing corners . They also had a deeper tank area . Always something new .

There was a Banks Ottomind on my 02 GMC when I bought it used . A month later it stalled while driving down the road and would not start . On a hunch I disconnected it and it started right up . I tried it again and within 20 miles the same thing happened , disconnected and all was well. Contacted Banks and was told they no longer had the means to test the unit as it was too old , at the time it was 6 years old . They also volunteered to sell me an updated new one . It now resides in my shop .If Banks is willing/able to test yours you are further ahead than I . It could also be the wiring or the plugs . Good luck
