RE: What do you do with the tailgate?

I have mine on the truck while the camper isn't on the truck. Then I put it in the spare bedroom while the camper is on. I only have the camper on the truck 2 times a year for a week or 2 each time so no my truck bed sides show no signs of collapsing or getting weak.

RE: BaseBoard Heater Install completed

And at only 25" long it will easily fit sideways under the dinette on my Travel Lite 690FD. I don't use the table for the dinette inside anyways so that's a great spot. Easy to run the wires from there too. Hummmmmmmm

RE: Trip report: Yorkshire Dales, England

Thanks for the excellent photos of the area. I grew up in the US but in the country. A Dairy only 1 block of houses and around the corner away. I remember the smell. Fishing on the pond, Catfish and Brim. Nice to see some areas staying like that there. Here it's all modernized these days. No old style fencing and most gates are store bought. Just not the same. Really nice to see a farm that uses natural things from the area to make fences and gates. Thanks again! :B

RE: Shidders Full :)

Good info, all, thank you. Well here she is, the truck handles her well with the exception of the swaying. I have 16yr old original shocks on her, so my next move is to get those replaces with some heavy duty shocks, if that isn't enough, then an after market sway bar. The Cummins didn't even notice the difference.

RE: Boondocking

"Boondocking" is camping. . .away from city lights, commercial buildings or other elements of civilization.
"Dry camping" is RV'ing in a spot without using hookups.
The confusion comes from misuse of those terms.
Good Post! :B

RE: Size of TC Toilets

My TC is small enough it didn't come with 1. I have a 5 Gallon total Cassette Toilet that luckily :R I haven't even had to put the water and blue stuff in it yet. I'm 260, 6'3" and it feels a bit small but will work in an emergency situation. Well at least I hope it will! :@

RE: badly made? bad us? TC repaired and ready

WOW! I've given my Travel Lite a good look see from time to time but I have seen a couple of cracks in the caulk that will now be scraped, cleaned and redone. Mine is stored indoors too but how long was it on the lot at the dealer? How long have these cracks been here? I didn't think from where they are or the size they made any difference but now that I know........OMG! :E
Now you've given me more work, thank you very much, LOL! :R

RE: Toyota Tundra - camper options?

OK, I have a Toyota Taco with a Travel Lite Hard Side 690 FD
I was actually in one of these brand new campers built for a Taco last summer, near where we live. Very nice camper, and indeed extremely light! I was very, very impressed.
Silver-
I am very happy with the Camper I have, thank you for your compliment Silver. It matches my Tacoma well. I bought a 2010 in November of that same year with an A/C unit as an option, the pillow shams and bed spread for $8995.00 and felt I got a very good deal. I made my hang up closet space a little smaller with the addition of a cassette toilet for emergencies. I now use another area for clothes. I have plenty of space for everything I need to travel. If I had it to do over again, this is my first TC you see. I would have had a 9,200 BTU A/C put on it instead of letting them sell it to me with a 13,500 BTU unit. I'd much rather use a 2000 Honda instead of having to use a 3000 Honda. I am still thinking of paying to have a 9,200 BTU unit put on it, sell the 13,500 unit and buy a 2000 Honda instead of buying a 3000 Honda. I will own it for at least the next 10 years till I, as I said, get a big boy TC for retirement. Maybe full time at that time, we'll see ;~)
It seems there are some TC's for the owner of the Tundra to look at. I knew there would be. Just have to get past the na-sayers but there are always those. As I said, he might not get everything he wants but how many of us do? I believe he can be happy tho! That is the trick to life you see, being HAPPY!
Again Silver, thank you for the compliment!

RE: Toyota Tundra - camper options?

Also, not sure if you've been in a TC before. When I went to Princesscraft to pick mine up the first thing I said to PJ was let's get inside the TC to see how much room there is. I mean I drive a Tacoma and I keep looking at the bed of the truck and saying, "What can you actually fit in there?" I was very surprised how much room there is. I'm 6'2" and 260, 296 then. I can stand up straight in it. It also feels roomy to me, but hey that's me, ;~) Mine only has a full size bed but again, it's a Tacoma, not a Tundra. You'll probably get a queen bed size in it.
I looked at the Travel Lite Pop Ups on their site and they weigh more than the hard sides!!

RE: Toyota Tundra - camper options?

OK, I have a Toyota Taco with a Travel Lite Hard Side 690 FD. It comes in at 1095 it says dry. It doesn't have a bathroom but I put a cassette toilet in it. I tow an Aluim 5X8 Trailer with a 550 LB. motorcycle on it. I have air bags and a sway bar. It does fine and I feel safe up to 65 with it loaded and traveling on the interstate. Fine at 55 on side roads. I'm probably over my weight limit by a bit but I'm within my towing limit by a bit.
Seems you could use the Travel Lite 770 Super Lite. Here's specs;
770 Super Lite Specifications
Floor Length
7' 7" Floor Width
47" Interior Height
6' 6" Exterior Length
Exterior Width
86" Dry Weight
1,335 Dinette/Bed/Sofa
54 x 84 Fresh Water
9 Gallon
Grey Water
N/A Black Water
N/A LP Gas
20# 3-Way Refer.
Optional
Conv. Charger
30 AMP Corner Jacks
4 Manual Electric Jacks
Optional Balance Point
33"
Link; http://www.travellitecampers.com/models/770SL/770SL.htm
Doesn't have a shower but Navy Baths aren't that bad and the use of a full size shower every few days somewhere is doable. Maybe use a shower bag in the summer, I do. A set of airbags and/or HD/Helper springs and a sway bar and you should be good. Might even spring for some higher rated tires.
Like I said before, my Taco does fine, I'm happy with it and it will do me till I retire in 13 years. Right before that I'll check my options then and get me a real TC, LOL! I have been very happy so far with my Travel Lite. It's pretty much me or me and a girl friend. Can't take my dog, parks and camp grounds frown on Pitts so I board her.
Keep looking and have fun. There are options. Might not get ALL your wants but who amongst does. Only the richest. So Simplify, live simply, live well, Steve

RE: Very concerned with Sandy!!!

Let's start off by saying I know nothing on this professionally but to me you would put the TC on your truck and use your tie downs and park it out of the way of trees on your property. If you live in town I might even park it in a parking lot away from any light poles. The winds won't be strong enough to blow away the truck and TC. Just a thought.

RE: Cooking in RV

Planning on fultiming whenever my stick house sells. Have lightweight aluminum pans that I use in RV and a good stainless steel set of pans that I use at home. Would like to replace the aluminum pans with the stainless steel pans. Since I would be doing a lot more cooking in my RV,does this seem like a good move? Appreciate your advice.
Move the ones from the stick house to the RV. Throw the RV ones out or give away. Problem solved!

RE: Rancho Frustration

Didn’t someone here on the forum make a tool out of PVC or something that made the knobs easier to turn?
No need to make anything, discovered a 3/4 socket works fine. A deep socket is even better since it gives you a better surface to grip.
Yup, no need to make anything since I read this thread. If you don't buy Rancho's you don't have the problem, Thanks for the tip, Steve

RE: Want a Truck Camper, Need Recommendations

I just went to eBay and put in Truck Camper in the search and in all categories. It came back with 1,783 results. Of course they are not all truck campers but you can slim down the results by zip code and miles so you can see if there is anything in your area to go look at. Getting up close and looking I find helps me the most. See if there are TC Dealers in your area. I had to drive 6 hours to buy my TC and I took time to look at other models while I was there. I got allot of ideas from just looking.

RE: Dream Boondocking truck camper??

Need more money:-)
SkipJ
That's what I'm sayin'. Please help this working HOBO. Just a dollar a day is all it takes to keep this working HOBO camping on a regular basis with a 1 ton truck with well prepared pop-up camper. Back to reality. I'm 53 and I'm already saving for my retirement truck w/TC. Sounds like there is some hope on the used front.

RE: How generators have changed our camping experience...

I'm in the quiet Gennie group. Use a Honda 2000 or 3000 inverter Gennie and it is no louder than being next to a person having a conversation @ 20 feet. The 3000 is actually more quiet than the 2000. I just add the cost of the Gennie into the cost of camping.
Like what I was taught as a kid. You buy a car and of course you make sure the engine runs before you put in any more money. But once you find out the engine runs you quit working on the engine and fix the brakes to make sure it will stop first. Then you can make the car go down the road, safely and without putting yourself off on any of the drivers/cars around you.
Like with camping. Yes you make sure the camper you get will be safe etc. Then you make sure you can go out and camp, have a good time, and not put yourself off on any other of the campers around you.
Yes a loud Gennie can ruin a camping trip to me. But it doesn't keep me from moving. I am flexible......ladies, tell all your single friends. No really I would go on the trip, study camp grounds to find unimproved camping areas that don't allow Gennie's. Good Luck and a good quarter of the fun is planning it.
