RE: Easy ways to improve insulation during winter camping?
Toss a bunch of Xtra blankets, or better yet, a few Xtra sleeping bags into the rig. Spread em out over the tops of the bed and turn the stupid heater down to about 50*. You will sleep plenty warm, and then some, and not be bothered by the heater cycling on and off all night.
Also, I have the roof vent inserts and believe they really do help the radiational cooling, that takes place at night.
Something that very few people give any thought to, is placing the camping rig broadside to the daily sun, so as to absorb as much heat as possible, and leaving the doors and windows closed to keep that heat inside. Once the interior is heated, it holds that heat for a number of hours. When possible, I do it, unless trees or obstructions prevent it.
We sleep in a Travasak, w/ a 4 Lb. sleeping bag across the top of us, and at times are TOO warm. I personally set the thermostat at about 45* on a 30* night, and we sleep like babies. My heater may come on maybe 1-2 times, but only just before sunrise. Give it a try!
RE: Safety issue with Monaco Roadmaster trailing arms
I'm going to have my arms pulled off and reinforced with more plate steel welded on.
PLEASE, do yourself a HUGE favor and keep that money in your pocket, and I urge you to read the thread here, at IRV2.com, (10,251 views can't be wrong). The OEM trailing arms are a very brittle cast iron material, and cracks/breakage, has been occuring in the mileage intervals between 12,000-18,000 miles. These arms typically break between the u-bolts and there simply isn't enough room to added plated steel. If someone does modify the OEM arms, they WILL break elsewhere. The Source Engineering arms are immense and as they claim, are three times stronger than the OEM units.
I manage a frame repair and alignment shop in SoCal, and we have done this replacement on several coaches, and am speaking from experience. I believe if you read the thread over on the other channel, you will reconsider. Good luck with your decision. Gary

RE: Harbor Freight 45 Watt Solar Kit
I got a coupon for a 45 watt solar kit from Harbor Freight Can this panel be wired to charge both batteries in my motorhome while it is in my garage?
If you intend to put the MoHo in the garage, solar won't charge at all! :S
A 120V trickle charger will be money better spent.
RE: Charging (2) 6 volts with 1 auto charger?
Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a HD 120 VAC timer.
Plug the charger(s) into it and run it 1 hour a day. Be sure BOTH battery banks are on the timed charger(s). No over-charging.
I've done it that way on several sets of batteries. Works really well too!!
RE: replace 2 6V with one 12V?
Why would you want to cut your amp hour rating by roughly 1/2??
2 six volt batteries will trump a 12V battery any day of the week.
RE: Monaco Roadmaster R4R & RR4R chassis CONCERNS
Over on Irv2.com, there is an extensive discussion re; the rear trailing arm issues, and what to look for. Here's a link to that thread. I manage a small frontend and alignment shop in Orange County, CA, and we have replaced several sets of the defective trailing arms, and are an authorized dealer for the Source Engineering replacement arms.
Under no circumstances, allow anybody to convince you that they are able to weld and reinforce the existing arms. You will literally be throwing good money into the wind.
Killer Virus Coming
Mr. Moderator. I received this yesterday and thought the Tech Issues might be the best location to post it. Should you need to move or even remove it, I completely understand.
Hi All,
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN.
It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.
COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US
RE: 2005 Dolphin LE Model #5342
You are asking for a TON of info. The owners info came in a roughly 12"X10"X10" top loading plastic box containing pendaflex hanging dividers, and contained Workhorse chassis owners manual, Nat'l RV owners manuals, and owners manuals for every appliance/awning/lighting/seat/stereo/TV/tank/entertainment Mfg. that is in that particular coach. Copying all of it would cost a fortune.
Mine is a 2004, but maybe I can help you.
CG's in 91945 (Lemon Grove, CA.) Zip Code
Found the San Diego RV Resort, but don't know anything about it, or any others in the area. Any reviews for CG's in the area?
RE: long battery life and solar
Hi,
We can't do polls on RV.net. I'm noticing a trend that folks with solar systems seem to have much longer battery life than folks without.
Please state how many years your batteries have lasted (five years or more, only please).
5 years Please state what your total amp-hour capacity is.800 or so Please mention if you have an inverter --and how many watts it is. 1000 Watt
If you have had batteries that have lasted at least five years and you have a solar system could you please answer "yes" (and the number of watts) as a reply? Yes, 370 Watts
If you have solar, a smart charger, and five year old batteries please answer "solar smart" as a reply?
RE: Getting rid of the onboard generator
I have a 34' MH and a 7K genny, not to mention 370W of solar. Our primary camping style is boondocking, always w/ friends. Should an opportunity present itself, where someone's genny quits, I could always run an extension cord over to them and provide any power they might need. Also, living here in SoCal, if a sizeable earthquake were to knock out the power for any significant amount of time, I have constructed a jumper to the house circuit breaker panel, that will allow me to run selected appliances i.e. refer. and some lighting. (And YES, I know to throw the main power circuit breaker, so as not to send power upstream).
Although having solar and an available genny, I wouldn't ever consider removing and selling that genny. It's too valuable as a power source, and I have NO interest in hair dryers/blenders/TV's/or elec. perc coffee makers. After all, I'm camping. Just want to retain all options available to me. So what, if the genny weigh's around 200 lb's. If I were to ditch it, and yet carry 1 additional male passenger onboard, what would I have gained?
RE: California Highway 1
We have driven that route, in our former 27' Pace Arrow M/H. The area between Eureka to Crescent City is very slow going, but very managable, and beautiful, all at the same time. Low clouds of fog blowing in off the ocean can slow you even more, but pay attention, and you'll be fine.
RE: Which Workhorse Chassis 07 Sightseer
W-20 = 19.5" tires.
W-22 = 22.5" tires.
That's an EZ way to tell those two apart. W-24, not familiar with EZ way to distinguish that model.
RE: Water Leaking in My Class A
I too had a leak, dripping from the television base, mostly when parked with the nose of the coach lower than the rear. Here's a link to my project that graphically shows the shoddy assembly where the front cap is mated to the coach body. Your's is likely very similar.
RE: dish network dish for direct tv
Yep, for a basic "non" HDTV. Heck it could say GE/Dish/Direct/or any other brand name on the reflector. It doesn't matter. For an HDTV though, it DOES make a difference.
