RE: Michelin Advantage Program

Shop around for the lowest price you can find on your size tires. You can find them for less than if you could buy through FMCA. This statement would be hard to substantiate, (if we're still talking Michelin) since that tire size is not part of the FMCA program. And as I said if he could buy through FMCA and he can't. But if the tire size is within the FMAC plan you can find them for less money then the plan, I know this twice over from buying tires.

RE: This Makes Me A Sad Panda.......

Back in the 70's when I was involved with the big 3 in the Detroit area the transport companies, be it rail or truck loaded right at most auto plants. That property might have been owned by one of the big 3 but was leased to the transport company. As soon as the vehicle entered the transport area the cars were considered sold units as the transport company was now responsible for any loss or damage.

RE: This Makes Me A Sad Panda.......

I remember back about 45 years ago a auto carrying train full of new Fords derail near us. They dug a huge hole beside the tracks and buried the whole mess.

RE: Portable Grill comparisons...

I have had a Weber Q but found it hard to store, but it worked fine. I now have THIS ONE and love it. It has legs that fold away very easy and the best grill we have ever had for use on windy days, it's does not blow out. It folds very small for easy storage. It's worth taking a look at and can be found online for just over a $100.

RE: Unmounted spare tire question

A road service contract, Good Sam's or such. I have one and always have. The problem is the one time I had a non-repairable flat it took till the next day for them to locate a replacement tire.

Unmounted spare tire question

I would like to carry a unmounted spare tire. I don't have any outside storage compartments large enough and I don't want it taking up space under the bed inside. But I have plenty of space behind the rear axle on the underside. No problem making a way to suspend it. My question is how to keep water and dirt out of the unmounted tire? A friend said to check in to having it shrink wrapped and another said to put a inner tube in the tire and inflate just enough to fill the cavity. Any other idea's out there? And no I don't want it on the roof.

RE: Camera - what lenses

I went the route with cameras you are thinking. After getting a camera with 3 lenses and using it for several months I ran across a man using a compact Panasonic ZS7 camera and taking off hand zoom shots I couldn’t believe. It has a image stabilizer system that even on the highest digital zoom shooting off hand is unbelievable. Yet it’s small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I’m just saying if you like the camera you have now for ease of carry and just wish of more zoom power and clearer pictures. Take a look at the Panasonic ZS7. I think you will be amazed at what it can do and no extra baggage to carry with you. My one fault with the ZS7 is poor inside flash pictures.

RE: Cleaning Fiberglass Roof

I have had a couple times ours has become so bad my usual brush and auto soap didn't do a good job of cleaning the roof. But I have a rather stiff brush on a handle that works great. The bristles are very short (maybe 3/4" to a inch long). And when it's really dirty I use Spic & Span or Dawn dish soap.

RE: MiFi Service

We started looking at Millenicom's service after running into a problem with our current carrier. We're supposed to have unlimited data which appears to only work when we're on their network. Earlier this month when in a location where we were on a roaming carrier, at either 2 or 3 gig they slowed us down so much that the service was basically unusable. When we called them, they said that unlimited didn't apply while roaming. In looking at Millenicom's site, I did see the statement "Usage over 50 gigabytes in one month will alert our investigative team" and I have no problem with that. Does Millenicom roam onto other carriers when Verizon service is not available and could we run into the same roaming limit problems as we had above? Bill You can go into the Jetpack set up and turn off roaming if you wish. But I guess if you have the unlimited you must have Sprint as the carrier. We went with the Verizon plan as Sprint has poor to no coverage in many of the areas we go to including our home base.

RE: MiFi Service

We have the Jetpack. We never turn our Jetpack off and 2 laptops plus 2 tablets are connected 24/7. My wife downloads lots of books and reads several newspapers online. I do a lot of reading and downloading of manuals and such. I also monitor a site that updates dates constantly weekdays. Our average monthly usage is 8 to 11 GB. We have the Millenicom 20GB, which after our last software update now shows it as unlimited.

Spray with soapy water works for us. Spray it on the bugs.

A rear track bar and this FREE handling fix will make a world of difference.

RE: RV'ers wanted (or should be)

We are viewed as too cheap to spend money on hotel rooms and restaurants by the non-RVers who run things. Wow, I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement.

RE: Filling fresh water tank while boondocking

If at your wet bay you have a valve for selecting city water or tank fill it's rather easy. Just switch the valve to tank fill and draw your water from a container using the anti freeze hose and the RV water pump. I'm sure all rigs are not setup this way, but check it out.

RE: Who Installed your baseplate

I did the first two myself. Not a bad job if you have the time and the tools. Having thoughts of getting a new toad and I think this time I'll let someone else do it. My choice will be the local bump shop as they have taken tons of front ends apart. The tail light wiring I will do.

RE: Norcold refrigerator door

We have found making sure there is nothing on the shelves that will move and bump the door helps and we also only put light weight items on the door storage shelves.

RE: Gas Grills?

The best gas grill I have found for the money is this ONE You can find them for around $85, the legs are attached and fold to take up a small area for storage. It's very wind resistance and you can put a tap off any propane tank on it. There is also a table top model.

RE: Norcold recall of the recall

I understand your thinking, but, light was not on when I returned from last trip in January. I turned the fridge off and disconnected battery. When I re-connected battery yesterday light was on. So I know for certain that it was not a high-temp event. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sounds like you had the same experience I did cutting power to the fridge. The RV tech told me he hears this a lot of cutting power and when turned back on the red light is on. His thinking is the fridge is cooling and hot on the backside when the power is cut. The fans can't run with the power cut and it trips the recall box. I now turn the fridge off and when the rear tubes are cooled I cut power. Not possible, as the rear fans only run when the convection air (NOT the Burner flue) is too hot and the fans are needed to help flow cooler air up the backside and out the top to help the cooling unit cool efficiently. There is NO WAY shutting down a refer and the "fans" cannot run will cause the boiler area to go from 350 degrees (normal operating temp) to more than double to over 700 degrees. Remember, the LP flame or 120 elements are shut OFF when power disconnected. Also, when you turn the refer OFF, the fans will shut off also. They will NOT continue to run once the refer is shut OFF. Doug Doug, what's your theory as to why when power is dropped and you later turn it back on the light comes on? In talking to Norcold they don't seem to have any idea or one their willing to share. Mine has had the light come on 3 times after powering up again.
