alaska tour saver

in looking at this offer for 99.95 one gets 130 2 for 1 coupons. I see there is a 2 for 1 coupon included that offers 2 helicopter tours that cost $275. ea for a total of 275.00. That appears to more than pay for the book. There has to be a catch here somewhere. Very limited tickets at that deal price or what? Anyone have experience with this book that can explain any fine print issues? When it seems too good to be true, sometimes it is. Thanks.

running reefer on inverter

I have a Norcold 1200 whatever reefer and wonder how long it might run on fully charged house batteries (4 6 volts) I am assuming it will be at operating temp when the inverter is started. Obviously no one can say it will run for xx hours. Maybe a better question is how much energy is used when the reefer is "running" considering it does not run all the time.
Reson for this query is a planned trip on the Alaska ferry wherein propane has to be off for 40 some hours in total. Am looking for assitance other than ice chest and dry ice.
Prior travelers on the ferry- what did you do? Thanks
Tony

I don't know. I found this more interesting than reading from a hundred folks if they do or do not go down the road with their propane turned on

RE: Registration Process for Montana

JCat-
Motorhomes with Montana plates are being stopped and cited in California. They are on to the scheme(legal or not) and have some issue with a needed permit for a commercial type registration. not my issue. just something for you to consider especially if you are not forming the LLC to avoid rv reg fees.

RE: Anybody have the Prizm Extended Warranty? Opinion of it.

I have had Prizm policy for 4 years plus. Have had 3 claims and based upon their performance with me, I will never buy another extended warranty . Period. Do what you think is best for you. They wouldn't be there if they did not make a lot of money. They are just not going to make my money anymore.

replacing parking brake switch

there have been many posts from folks who have replaced their parking brake switch. I have one enroute and need to know the best way to attack the problem. Did you remove the plastic switch plate and hence the switch from above or did you remove the side panel and do the repair from below? Thanks

RE: Brake Buddy system ... pros/cons???

Don and Eileen-
Didn't you read my post? The Brake Buddy technician told me that several cars put their brakes on all by themselves. Apparantly you bought one of them;)

RE: How do you handle the key in ignition, while towing?

I tow with a blue ox which has padlocks instead of pins securing the towbar to the base plate. I really don't see how there can be a concern about someone getting in a car with the key in the ignition that is connected to a motorhome and just driving off. The contents in the toad present a different scenario.

RE: Brake Buddy system ... pros/cons???

I have had my brake buddy system for 6 years now and towed with it over 50,000 miles. It only malfunctioned once and totally destroyed my toad's braking system. The unit locked up and by the time I could pull over the brakes were history. A friend of mine had his for over 3 yrs with only one problem. Last month his unit locked up and his toad actually caught fire. Only $9,000 in damage. I called Brake Buddy and the tech stated that sometimes cars put their brakes on all by themselves. I sent the unit in and it was eventually returned saying the unit was fine. During a recent trip, now being very observant of the alert system, I noticed the alert system lit up with every slight movement of the coach, i.e. hitting a pothole, application of the Exhaust brake, curves in the road. I immediately stopped the coach and upon examination of the unit saw the sensitivity had gone up to 7. I had set it at 2 at hookup. So either my car applies it own brakes or the Brake Buddy sets it own sensitivity level. Personally, I now have to either put out $1000 for a new unit of some brand or drive with one eye on the alert system and one eye on the road and pray the alert system is working.

RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?

I think we need to print up a Wally world directory. We will grade them just like Trailer Life directory. Give em numbers 1-10. Include things like. Noise from freeway- cleanliness of the store's restrooms, levelness of the parking lot. big rig room for slides, chairs, awnings, bbqs etc.

RE: Holiday Rambler Ambassador-2009

dave-
I'm surprised the wewbsite isn't crashing from volume of responses. I read all with interest having a Monaco product that is the Ambassador twin. I have also had some questionable contacts with prism. When I came to the asking price I fell out of my chair. An orphaned 09 coach w/o a real warranty in this market and the dealer is asking more for the coach than before the meltdown. Tell the guy
$148,000 and leave him your phone number and walk. You can get 40% off MSRP almost anywhere in the country. The downside your trade is not going to fetch a desireable price. But if you want new go for it. If this dealer persists on his ridiculous pricing, bid him goodbye. Good luck.

RE: brake buddy damage insurance claim

fixed blade-
Thanks for the explanation. That explains why a friend of mine who had his brake buddy seize up and the front of his vehicle actually catch on fire was covered by AAA for the $8900. in damage. I acted too swiftly and immediately disconnected the brake buddy and drove down the road to cool off the heavily smoking brakes before they caught fire. My buddy stood there for several minutes figuring out his next move and his car ignited. I would have been better off grabbing the cats, going a hundred yards down the road, and watching the car burn to the ground. If I was lucky the RV would have also got involved with 100 gallons of diesel and 25 gallons of propane as an accelerant. My progressive policy replaces my RV during the first 5 years. A new one, comparably equipped runs 250K or so. My car 20K.
I would put out 600 in Comp deductibles for $270K in product. Instead I put out 484 bucks for brakes and have the same old RV and toad. Thanks for the tip on what I should do next time. Think Fire.

"We were told by the dealer" That must make it true.
Run into someone w/o the MANDATED supplemental braking system and tell the civil jury "we were told by the dealer."

RE: brake buddy damage insurance claim

brobox-
I agree about the somewhat insignificant claim amount. I guess my confusion and disappointment comes from the fact the adjusters seemed to bend over backwards to deny the claim, taking one word out of a statement of coverage and stretching it to the max. The decision to pay the claim could have gone either way. I did not mention before I also insure the MH with Progressicve at the tune of 1300 a year. So they risk losing a 9 year customer who gives them $2600 a yr to save $348.? Sort of narrow-minded IMHO.

RE: Brake Buddy Customer Service

They sure are pleasant when they are going to do work for you for which you will pay.
They are much less than honest when it comes to accepting blame when their system malfunctions and locks up and destroys your braking system.
I do not wish to rehash the details again.

RE: Another Brake Buddy question/issue

if you have the same experience with Brake Buddy that I have had twice now the following will happen:
1. they will ask you to ship the unit to them at your expense.
2. you will have to call them to find out what the results of their "examination" was.
3., They will tell you there is nothing wrong with your unit other than it MIGHT be an amperage drop due to being plugged into a cigaretter lighter.
4. they will send you for free a direct wire kit
5. they will charge you XXX dollars for the exam plus shipping the unit back to you.
When my brake buddy recently malfunctioned and destroyed my braking system, the first diagnosis I got from the customer service rep is that he is experiencing a lot of damage being reported by brake buddy owners where they feel the car is putting on the brakes all by itself. He said this is a rather common occurrence.
When I called back after they had my unit for some time and I got the amperage drop diagnosis I asked if an amperage drop would cause the unit to malfunction and apply the brakes to the tow car and keep them on till everything is ruined he said it sure could be a reason.
I then queried if an amp drop can cause the brake buddy to malfunction why don't they make the direct wire kit standard equipment like the alert system and breakaway switch, he replied that he had no clue why. These folks have no clue alright.
I stayed up all night for a week watching my car to see if it would apply its brakes all by itself and it never did.:M
By the by, spare us the response that I have driven with my BB for xteen million miles and it works great. Before this latest malfunction I had towed over 50K miles with this same unit without any problems. My issue is witrh their customer service dept and their fantasy responses. Do a search on Brake buddy and see the patterns.
