RE: Expired Passport

I have traveled for years on an expired passport , what they gonna do ?
I have never been refused entry .
listen to this guy..
you dont even need a passport to get into Canada to drive through and the USA wont deny you entry to your homeland if you have proof you are US citizen. May take 2 minutes longer but no big deal.
Dont bother to pay extra, just order your new one and if you got it, great. If not, won't stop your entry to either country. Enjoy your trip.

RE: New Windows 8 Laptop

Just got a Sony ultrabook with Win 8, touch screen and SSD.
I love it but think it would be tougher to master without the touch screen. Can do it all with touchpad or mouse but the touch screen (which I thought before I received it, I would not use so much) makes certain functions easier. My wife both laughs at and admires me as I explore the functions/features of this new system and move stuff from our 2 old Windows 7 laptops. Its challenging but interesting.
I really believe that the negative comments here and all over the internet are from folks who truly don't like change..:h
At work, 3 weeks ago, we just had a complete software replacement linking all the sales, service, and accounting. I was looking forward to it cause at my age I need these kinds of challenges to keep my brain fresh..:W
I have adapted and love this new system.
The lady in accounting who is 20 yrs my junior hated the thought of upgrading to, and having to learn a new system. Still today she despises this new stuff, and has a why did we have to change, there was nothing wrong with the 20 year ols system we had--attitude:@
It happens folks...things change

RE: This will make for an interesting debate...GM vs Ford sales

I just ran across this interesting article discussing the Ford vs GM combined pickup truck sales.
I was surprised to see how many times GM actually sold more pickups than Ford...with more than 72,000 pickups over the last 15 years.
Here is a link:
GM has actually outsold Ford
Just some food for thought...

RE: Need international drivers license for Fla.?>

I live in an area that depends on tourism for a large percentage of the economy.
When some level of government comes out with a regulation or law that obviuosly will affect the influx of tourists, the business's that would be directly affected usually quickly jump on the issue and try and correct it by getting in the politicians faces.
I would hope and think that those involved in tourism in Florida will try and protect their interests and get after their lawmakers to fix this absurd requirement..:h

RE: IDL required in Florida

Saw that report on the news this morning.
That will really enhance tourism in Florida--NOT, cause its probably for everyone from everywhere, not just Canadians.
I fly down tomorrow and have a rental booked...wonder if they will give it to me???
For every Canadian now there, realize that you are technically driving illegally if you don't have the International Driving License.

RE: converting trailer to goose neck

Ever slip a pipe over a breaker bar to get more twisting power
OR find a longer wrench or hammer to get more force than the short one that wont do the job?
That is what you are doing to your frame when you do a conversion like this.
A well/strong built fiver frame will take it, a flimsy built one wont.
There are MORE flimsy than well built frames out there it seems.
The Reese adapter thing appears to compensate for all the extra twist on your frame but the straight bolt on ones could cause major failure.
Be carefull.

RE: V-Hull travel trailers; any benefit?

The Titanium fifth wheels have a more aerodynamic ( V like) front end and do tow easier and more stable in a head wind, or no wind situation. In a strong side wind its as bad as any. I would rather be in a 40 mile per hr head wind than a 30 mph side wind with about any camper.
Some will jump on me over next statement but you can search/research it and decide for yourself..
a V shaped aerodynamic REAR end would do more to help fuel economy than the front does.
Your tow vehicle has already broken the wind at front but the rear end has a great sucking (pulling) action going on.
Putting a fishing skiff backwards on top of a vehicle will yield as good or better fuel economy than putting the bow to the front...
OK, I am signing off for weekend so don't expect me to join any discussion on my post here.

RE: v10 gas mileage

Is there a way to get better gas mileage out of a 2002 Jaco Eagle 450 Ford V10? I presently get 8 mpg at 60-65 mph.
FYI
A V-10 is 6.8 Litres figures to about 407 Cubes!
No big deal but just thought you might like to know.
FYI
I think he was referencing as a Jayco (E)450, not motor size.

RE: Under the "How Cool Is That" catagory

Looks like the van would have had a 4X4 conversion done, then runs as a front wheel drive only?
Remeber seeing a release probably 20 years ago when they were trying to put this into production.
looks like they built at least one...:D

RE: More 6.7 Ford HPFP fun

They just delivered a new F250 6.7 Lariat crew to a customer at the dealership here.
This customer fit the profile dead on of 99% of the buyers of these type of trucks.
----Male 40 to 65 yrs old
----annual income $50,000 to $100,000
----Does not read RV NET or Ford Truck Enthusiast
I think no matter how hard some try to degrade these trucks here; or for that matter, any brand of truck; reality is over 90% of the buyers probably don't read or care about the discussions like these.

RE: Could Winter Texans Become Extinct?

I don't know, about becoming extinct that is, we are 61 and 59 and just bought a 2013 34 foot fiver, and plan on going to Texas this winter for the first time, but as some said earlier we are not looking for potlucks and bingo halls, cards etc. We are looking for good weather, more outdoor activities, hiking, biking, beaches. An RV park only needs to be clean and secure with full hookups, a pool and hot tub are more than enough!! We can entertain ourselves and easily make friends!! anybody have any suggestions for parks around the RGV or around Port Aransas.
Was a bit younger than you when we spent a winter in Texas about 7 yrs ago.
Check out Seven Oaks Resort in Mission.
Its exactly what you listed plus bigger than average lots.
Is a few kms south of the freeway but easy access to everything.
Is an offfroad biking area about 1.5 kms south of park.
I bought a bike while there to use this and there is also biking trails over to the "birding' areas if you like that. great trail system and a nice park where you make your own entertainment.
One tip...get the special "self sealing" tubes for your bike cause those little burrs in the grass will leave you with flats every morning...
The beach is a ways off but makes for a nice day trip.
We drove as far north on South Padre as can go.
Weird to see "snow" plows on the island plowing wind blown beach sand off the road :B

RE: Ford fifth wheel hitch

I was told yesterday by an rv dealer that I would have to get a Ford brand fifth wheel hitch to go with the fifth wheel prep kit I have in my new F350. Is this true? Thanks for any help. Dave
Hellbird...
I think I would be looking for a dealer who is more on the ball.
If the guy really believes what he told you, would you want him installing something this important on your new truck? :h

RE: Just an honest observation !!

I have been driving 260 miles a day to my new job location, and as always when on the road I check out all the trucks coming from otherside of road. I Know you all know I am a GM guy, but wow!! I have been seeing a lot of duramax trucks hauling campers. Seems to me what used to be alot of superdutys now seems to be more duramax trucks the dodge. Like I said I am putting 260 miles a day on to get to and from my job, so I am not imagining this. I think I will record what I see for a week and then report back. This will help keep me awake, and is very easy to put a checkmark under GM , Ford, or Dodge. I will report back and see if this is just my imagination or the duramax ally is becoming the most trusted powerhouse!!
Mark, I know you are an avid GM guy so I am sure you would notice what you saying.
I commute 150 miles per day in the summer months and about 5 miles in the winter months.
I find its very easy to spot the GM products because a high percentage of them have a "burned out" bulb. Now in Canada we have had daytime running lights for over 10-15 yrs so possibly I notice more here than you would?
So just as a test; as you are counting trucks pulling trailers, count all vehicles with burned out bulbs and I guarantee you, most will be GMs.
Not sure why this is but its a fact.
May make it easier for you to spot the GM products now that you know this.....:@

What about fire arms?
I was thinking of going into Canada.
Would it be best to have, a pistol or rifle?
What about not even declaring it?
I just can't believe this is a serious question? :h

RE: Cataracts Lens replacement

My wife had poor vision since she was a child. When she had cataracts in both eyes we went to an eye surgeon who gave her an option of corrective lens implants. The extra charge of $1200.00 per eye was the best money we've ever spent.
No more contacts or glasses and her vision is near perfect.
This is where I am confused :h
As I said in my earlier post, the surgery was covered by medical plan with a non-presciption lens. My choice was for a corrective lens which was $75 dollars per eye. These werte a brand name (can't remember) with a card and certiciate of lens serial #, warranty info, etc. Surgery done in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The results are amazing to me.
How can a lens (basicall a contact lens) be worth $1200 or as Sea Dog said $2500 per eye? :@
I think some doctors are marking these up a bit...??
The "vari-focal" lenses they do it with are $3000 each here!! I passed on them. Have had both eyes done now...one asleep...one wide awake. For $75 each...you get a "plain pipe rack" lens....They measured my eyes 4 times with lasers to make sure they had a lens that was exact to what was being removed
OK, I think I now understand that there is at least 3 choices?
1-No prescription lens, keep using glasses.
2-the economy $75 ish lens that I got
3-the super amazing but expensive ( I was not offered this choice)
Did you go with the basic $75 ish lens? Or is there something else in between?
I am seeing better than ever, one more line on chart than I could read with glasses or after lazer surgery, I am and satisfied with my choice for sure.

RE: Trans Canadian HWY 1, conditions & camping options?

Instead of turning south at Winnipeg, I would continue East to Kenora, Ont then south on #71 to Fort Frances. Cross border to International Falls, MN, then south on 53 to Superior , Ws then left onto Wisconsin #2 to your destination.
Much more scenic, less hectic route and probably about only 1 hr more.
