RE: Bathroom vs. Storage space (also water heater question)

My wife would not go camping unless there was a full bathroom available. We have done a fair amount of no hookup camping with no issues worth mentioning. There always seems to be a dump station somewhere (full or pay). Our tanks capacity allows us to go for 3 days with no loss of comfort.
As far as storage, we have plenty of it between the basement and the storage areas in the bedroom as well.
Keep the bath.

RE: Bigfoot's off the truck? Any experiences?

We have a 2500 and on any trip over two days in the same spot, we do a "saucer sep" and leave the camper back at the campground.
We have a sheet of 5/8" plywood in the bed of the truck as a riser (one contigous piece) and another 4x8 sheet cut into 4 equal sections.
We then use them as X supports and place the whole sheet on top. We lower the camper onto this "platform" and it rock steady.
Nice thing is the door is picnic table height so we don't even use the ladder.

RE: Bigfoot question of clearance.

I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado and I had to raise the bed about 2 inches due to the beveling of the corners in the truck bed. I have more than enough clearance for the cabover area.

RE: Bigfoot 1500 series

The best thing about the clam shell design for me was no more rubber roof!

RE: What supports the outer edge of your camper?

I use a rubber track mat (recommended by rv dealer) and two sheets of 4x8 plywood on top of that. Top sheet shows signs of deformation (rivets, etc) but this works good for me.

RE: taking apart a Happijack

I took the motor off the top and used a spray can of lithium grease and then exercised the jack.

RE: Off the truck camping

My wife and I decided to downsize to a truck camper last year. Like you, about the only thing we haven't owned is a Class A motorhome.
When we "saucer sep" our rig, we have a small portable platform we rigged up from a posting found somewhere here on RV.net.
At its simplest, it is a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood resting on two X's made of 4 pieces of 2 x 4 plywood.
That said, this is personal preference since we have also taken the camper down to the ground as well. Both ways, the camper seems stable. We prefer the platform since most of the weight of the camper is on the platform and gives the jacks a break.

Wife and I will be here. We figured it was closer than heading down to VA.

RE: Happy Jack Help!

Have you performed maintenance on these jacks?
You may want to take a look at Happi Jac's site on maintenance at
http://www.happijac.com/products.php
There is a video there as well.
