RE: Gifts for the RVer?

XM radio with life time subscription, Garmin 7200 GPS, VCR-DVD player recorder, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, side mounted cameras, are a few things I can think of. My parents just upgraded from a pop-up to a motorhome, and I'm desperately seeking ideas for Christmas gifts. Are there any 'must haves' that any of you can think of, or anything that really comes in handy that they might not already have, from the pop-up? Or even fun decor-type things. Any ideas/leads at all would be appreciated! Thanks :)

RE: Financing a new coach

Refi your stick house at below 5% and make a cash deal on your new MH. No lower rate can be had. I am curious. What kind of attractive financing is available for buying a new rig? What is the lowest interest rates, term of loan, etc? mtnman

RE: Motor Home Comfort

Could be a thermostat problem. What temperature does your gauge say you are running. Mine is always above 190. In really cold weather I can see when it open and closes. Question for those of you who own a diesel-pusher: How comfortable is the inside of your coach during cool/cold (40 degree) weather, while driving it? We recently traded from a gas RV to a diesel-pusher, and completed a 1,000 mile shake-down trip. The one thing we noticed was how uncomfortable it was driving in cooler weather. I expected the heater to take longer to warm up, but it did not get as hot as our gas powered coach. I had the temperature control on hot, the fan blowing on high all the time, and we were still not comfortable. We were at speed of 60mph. What do you guys-and-gals do to keep warm while "running-down-the-road"?

RE: 50 amp R/V outlet from 220 volt service?

MH 50 amp is two hots, neutral and a ground. Do not know how your pool heater is wired. My hot tub is a 60 amp four wire system. Make sure you understanding the wiring protocol. RV ELECTRIC SERVICE Hi, I have a pool heater that runs on 220 volts and it is in a perfect spot to install a 50 amp outlet for my coach while parked at home. Can I tap into the 220 and get 50 amp 110 out of it? I would also put some kind of a switch so that I could only use one or the other at a time. Thanks, Ron

RE: Smallest Diesel Class A Pusher?

What is the CCC and the towing capacity? Is it on a air bag chassis or a spring chassis like the FRED? Tiffin, a quality RV builder, is coming out with a 28' DP. Tiffin Breeze

RE: Smallest Diesel Class A Pusher?

I have seen some as small as 32 feet but do not know if any one is still putting one that small out the door. Do a search af the manufacture sites if you really want to know. Simple question - What is the smallest Class A diesel pusher available today?

RE: Still trying to understanding tires

Assuming you have corner weights and know what the pressure should be - which from you discussion I do not think you have - minor over inflation may give a harsher ride. Significant over inflation will cause the middle of the tire to wear faster plus give you a harsher rider. I understand that knowing the actual weight carried by each tire may allow me to lower the PSI in the tire, but whats the harm of keeping the PSI at 95 insted of lowering it to 85 or 80 PSI?

RE: Help, furnace won't stay lit.

If you have heat pumps and it is warmer than 35 try using them. Happy Thanksgiving fellow rv's. Went out to fire up the furnace and found that it comes on and burner lights then it will run for a few minuets then shuts down. Doe's this each time I try to fire up the furnace. The indicater on the panel says I have 1/3 tank of propane, and the gauge on the tank indicates that I have 1/4 tank of propane. It's always worked well never a problem. Any ideas? I have a 2002 Sahara Safari, I think the furnace is a Dometic, at least the roof air's are dometic, and all three are controled my a Dometic control on the wall. Thanks for any help. At least we're not on the road yet. Leaving in one month for sunny AZ.

RE: CAT 3126E block heater kicking breaker

Not the answer you are looking for but our 02 was a hard starting cold weather problem just waiting for the 40's. We got an re programed update and it fixed the problem. Check with CAT - see signature. Well, we are leaving for Disney World in the AM and since my CAT is notoriously hard to start even when the temps get in the low 50's, I switched on the engine heater tonight. Pop! goes a breaker. I checked everything I could easily see, verified no loose connections in the breaker box but every time I turn on the engine heater, the breaker trips. Does anyone know where on the engine the heater resides? Is it fairly easy to R & R or am I headed to either Freightliner in Gaffney or my local CAT shop?

RE: Tow Bar & The Toad

I have read on this forum about folks having the pins in the tow bar removed when they stop for lunch. We use a key that does not have a chip in it so you can not start the FROG with the key in the ignition. We lock the tow bar to the FROG and to the receiver. The tow bar is attached to the coach via hitch receiver and a pin. The toad is attached to the tow bar with one pin in each arm. The toad itself is in neutral and the key in the ignition. With the key in the ignition the doors can not be locked. Has anyone ever had a car stolen. ?? Is locking the toad to the tow bar, or locking the tow bar to the coach a good idea.??

RE: Radial Cracks in a Hidden Hitch

I agree and it is a continuous problem. Hitch Issues This is not a rant, just an observation and suggestion that everyone make it a habit of checking your MH mounted hitch Just remember to check both hitches the one one the toad (towed, frog, etc.,) and the one on the Motor Home or Truck.

RE: What do you think of this dealer offer?

When I trade all I care about is the difference. What he gives for mine what he charges for his makes no difference. If I do not like the difference price I walk. I also tell them I want the "out the door price" no funny adders for paper work, PDI or what ever. Just give me the MSO and I will pay TTL when I register it. Based on your post you do not know what is being called MSRP. All you know is 118,000 and 27%. I am thinking of upgrading to a new Tiffen motorhome. Got an offer of 27% off new Phaeton or Bus motorhome. Then they made an offer of $118,000 for my 2008 Monaco Knight. Monaco has every option and has 18,000 miles. $118,000 seems way to low. What do you think? Initial price presentation did not give specific numbers for MH and for trade. Just a net difference. I don't like this type of offer, seems to hide specifics. I mailed back and asked for a specific price for MH and one for trade. Got the trade number and I calculated the MH price. Steve__

RE: Annual Maintenance Cost

Cost You may want to read this but I have not updated it. We now have 80,000 miles on it and will start with tires some time next year. Wife and I currently have a fifth wheel but are considering taking the plunge to a pusher. My question is what is a realistic dollar amount we should be considering when it comes to annual maintenance? We would be looking at a Monaco or similar quality unit in the nighborhood of 38 - 40 footer, not sure if I would need a tag axle or not but lets add that in to the equation to be safe. Use about 12,000 miles a year which, currently I believe would be high as we aren't full timers yet. What are the annual expenses "you" would consider to keep the rig in top shape?

RE: Need aux brake advice

I have towed stuff for the last 50 years and in years past never really worried about trailer brakes and/or brakes on the FROG. About 20 years ago a 3200 pound boat and trailer started to get side ways on me when the SFB in front of me did some things I did not expect. After cleaning the seat up I have since decided that when I tow I have brakes on what ever it is. We are getting our Class A and toad outfitted to pull 4 down. We will be pulling a 2010 Chevy Equinox weighing approximately 3800 lbs. Our installing dealer advises against an auxiliary braking system since they know of some instances (gave me names) where the brake locked up and it did major damage. Their argument is that unless we are going into Canada, for instance, the MH can handle 3800 lbs. Even though I like my dealer, I would like to hear from some of you about this. Have you had that happen to you or do you know of someone it has happened to? Do I really need to go through the expense or installing a braking system? If so, what do you recommend and about what should I expect to pay? I notice there is another question concerning brakes that was just posted, but it does not really answer the question I have asked here. Thanks for your help. You are a great resource of knowledge to me.

RE: Thinking of selling my coach...Am I stupid?

Read this thread and then decide price of used RV Ok, here's the deal. The wife and I are thinking of pulling the plug next year and going full time. I have been offered a killer deal on a 05 Dynasty Platinum IV. Now here's the rub. My current coach is a 96 Dynasty w/109000 miles on it. Everything works perfectly, I have all the manuals etc, the 1996 build sheet from Guaranty RV in Oregon, and every receipt for every service ever done to the coach since it was new, including changing out light bulbs. It is paid for and I will have to finance the new coach. Now my question is this: NADA lists my coach for around $30-35,000. I am thinking 40-45,000. Do you think I can get this kind of money in today's market? I understand this price point for a extremely nice DP is pretty good. What do you guys think????.. thanks for your help...Dennis

RE: Diesel air intake hose torn.

IMHO you still need to get it fixed as you are now trusting to filter to protect you. I suggest the engine filter compartment area is more dirty than just getting outside air. This means it will clog the filter just that much faster. The tears are on the intake side of the filter.
