Tires and Rims Part II

I have ST225 75 R15 D. on the TT trailer now. Tires are cracking between the treads, so I plan on changing. Wanted to go to the same size but in a E load range. Checked the rim and no max. psi on inside or out (with tire removed) only marking on the rim -
XMJ 2006 Made in China 15 x 6 JJ Max load 2600. The rims are a 6 bolt pattern.
Would like to go to the E range, same size. Any thoughts on the PSI problem. Change rims or not? Trailer weighs in at 9300.

RE: Travel Trailer Tire opionions needed

Seem to have some trouble locating st225/75 r15 tires and rims. any ideas? not sure if I go to a 16 where there are more choices how much that would raise the TT height.

RE: Travel Trailer Tire opionions needed

Skip I know, that I can do a D but E would give me some overhead. The difference is not that bad. Still wonder about the rim psi ratings if any. They tried to sell me Marathons, but the ratings didn't look very good. But they were cheaper.

Travel Trailer Tire opionions needed

I'm planning on changing out the tires on my TT. (Forest River Sierra 321kfd). presently have Tow Master OEM which are sun crazing in between the treads. Trailer actual weight is 9300 lbs. (11000GVW)
Presently have ST225/75 R15 D Going to go to an E range tire.
Looking at either Maxxis or Denman. Any opinions? Also the tire pressure would go from 65 psi to 80. Does this make a difference on the rim, and if so how do I tell. Thanks
Andy

RE: How Level is Level

I like to level with the stove, like my eggs and cooking to stay in the center of the pan, makes for easier cooking. If that level, then everything else if fine.

RE: Connecticut to Ashtabula, Ohio

Hi,
Next week we are heading to Ashtabula. Planning a route to Ashtabula, OH from Hartford, CT.
It looks like I-84 west, to Rt.17 (middletown, NY) to Binghamton, NY
then I-86 west to I-90 is the most direct. But, I've heard that Rt. 17 is very hilly and not a great road for making time.
Another option is I-84 west, to I-81 south,(Scranton, PA) to I-80 west, to Ohio Rt. 11 north.
Please advise,
I-90 is a better route, free and not as twisty, 11 is a good road. depending on where in ashtabula you want to go. the only rv parks in the area are now closed, i believe.

RE: Tighting exterior screws??

The screw heads on my Cruiser 5th wheel are rusting and I have been thinking of putting stainless pan head screws in place of the counter sink style used by the factory. They did not drill the trim deep enough to allow the screw to "sink in" and it looks bad. Mine are tight for the most part and a few I have tried are stripped. I will put in the next size larger in those holes.
I hope you are not caulking with silicone. Use Proflex RV sealant around all trim and windows. Silicone will not adhere to fiberglass and metal for very long. Proflex RV is more expensive but lasts years!
I replaced all my out screws with stainless on my last camper with great results. Put my hat in the ring for the change.

RE: Difficulty locating source of leak

Dealers can positive pressure the RV by adding a certain pressure to the inside, then they can wash the outside with a bubble mixture to see the leak. There are ways to put positive pressure into your RV but you have to be careful not to overpressure as it can make more problems.

RE: Using cable hookup at campgrounds

A newer camper should have a cable or park connection on the back, it should be easy to see. If not you can get a flat cable piece that will fit though a window or door to the TV. Also look at the front and rear TV sites, there should be a connection. If there is there must be the connection on the outside, unless the camper has a real problem, then u need to see the dealer. So check in and out.

RE: Satellite vs. Cable

On the sat you will need a box for each TV. I do use sat when because I travel and can take the dish with me. But with a Sat. you will need a box, the remote I think can be programmed to work the tv. I have not, but think it is possible.

RE: Slides that wouldn't...

here is something i found on a search:
he power you have at the switch only controls a set of relays which then in turn start the hydraulic motor and control the direction of the fluid. The cylinder is a double acting one so that it can power the slide in and out. There is a seperate control box somewhere, probably near the pump, that has all the control things in it. The control box has a seperate fuse which may be blown. You should hear the hydraulic motor start when you try to move the slide. If you hear the motor then the directional valve is faulty. If you do not hear the motor then either it is bad or you are not getting power to it. Electrical trouble shooting can be frustrating but stay with it. Look for where the voltage should be and if it is not there find out why. You need to have a decent voltmeter or voltage probe. Good luck.
