Hey all,
Can anyone tell me about campgrounds in Fla. We plan on heading down in July. We have a reservation for Racoon Lake in Kissimee. We also are looking to stay in Ft.Lauderdale, somewear between and Tampa, and Ocala. We will be starting in NY and hope to spend a night near South of the Border on the way down and in D.C. on the way back up. Thanks Jeff
Hi zip0,
South of the Border has a really nice CG right in their lot!! Nice pull though sites and decent sites. We stayed there for 3 nights a couple of years ago!
We are in Silver Springs..just outside of Ocala. We are at the Springs Resort.. on I-40. We like it here very much! The website for The Springs is: www.wildercorp.com
At this time of year.. with all the snowbirds heading home, you shouldn't have any problem getting a site anywhere!!
Hi Again!!
Another great CG is Recreation Plantation in Leesburg/Lady Lake. The website is: www.recreation plantation.com This is a first class park with about 800 sites. This would be a great area between Ocala & Tampa. We have visited the park, but have not stayed there. Reservations for winter occupancy are made a year in advance!!
Just returned from a trip through Fla. after finishing a 14-day cruise out of Tampa. Our last stop was in Kissimmee where we stayed at Sherwood Forest on 192. The park is less than 4 miles from the Disney complex, easy to locate as it is across the street from Camping World, priced very low for the area, clean grass lots. At $29.00 per day the lowest at this locale. The only problem I saw was that their sewer connections sat about 8 inches above ground (hard to get water to flow up hill) and that they did not offer cable TV. We were able to pull in 24 channels on the Winegard Ant. so did not miss the Academy Awards.

Hi rvten,
I think I should have said... State RT 40!! Not I-40. SORRY!!!
From I-95, you take State RT 40 in Ormond Beach ...go WEST.
From I-75, take EXIT 69 and GO EAST!!
If you enjoy the beach and can venture more west to the Gulf of Mexico coast of Florida, here are a couple of suggestions: Probably need reservations for July --
1. St. Andrews State Park at Panama City. Good camping areas, sugar white sand beaches, and CLEAR gulf water.
2. Port Joseph Peninsula State Park at Port St. Joe on the gulf coast. Good beach campground with miles and miles of white sand beach and clear water just across the sand dunes ( walkways provided).
