My wife and I will both be retiring next year and are just starting the process of looking for a travel trailer to use on trips which will hopefully last anywhere from two to four months. Does anybody have any recommendations as to good books/manuals which may help me to learn about common heating, cooling, gas and other systems? Have always enjoyed doing much of my own mechanics but this is a completely new area for us. .... Jim

Hi Jim
Welcome to the forum! You will find much of what you seek here. I will suggest several sources of information that you can use to learn about the various systems, appliences etc. First, here are a couple of sites that have links to just about everything relating to RV's.
Just click on them to go to the site.

Here is a good site for info on systems.

Here is our own FAQ site:

A good source for checklists:

Hope this helps you get started. Good luck in your retirement and travels. Keep asking questions.

Jim, Check with your local library. That helped us a lot. We have read and re-read the "The RVer's Bible" and "RVing Basics". Only two from dozens to select from

While reading this forum I came across a recommended web site: www.rv.org It's about the RV Consumer Group. I ordered a book called "How to Select, Inspect, and Buy and RV" by J.D. Gallant. I'm about 3/4 through the book, and while I've owned a travel trailer since 1994 I've found this book very informative. I am looking to buy either a new or used fifth wheel before next summer.

If you go to the above site you will find the book I am recommending in the site store. It costs about $20+. There are also other RV related guides you can purchase, some fairly expensive, but helpful when planning to purchase an rv. Good luck!
