I recently experienced the failure of two Goodyear 235/85 R16 LR G trailer tires. These tires were original equipment with approximately 8,000 miles. One tire blew out and the other rolled the entire tread off without any air loss. Both were on the rear axle of a 36' fifth-wheel. Extensive damage resulted to both fenders and rear skins. I have filed a claim with Goodyear asking for replacement of all original tires. I have since learned of several other incidents involving Goodyear tires. Are others having similar problems and is anyone aware of a recall?

You have a problem that Goodyear is VERY familiar with. We had two tires blowout on a 32' Mallard w/slide, doing trailer damage both times. Goodyear paid for the repair of the trailer both times. The RV dealer enlightened us about the problem and the Goodyear tire dealers were aware of the problem.
I spoke with a representive from Goodyear and he did everything but accept responsibility--even after they paid the repair bill. I thought that was enough to admit guilt--but he still actually denied they had a problem--LOL. I asked about a recall--said one was not necasary. I mentioned that there were probably people who had been injured due to this known problem. He had nothing to say. They did replace all of the tires---eventually.
This situation left me with a VERY sour taste in my mouth. I would never buy another Goodyear tire again. BTW--this all occurred about the same time as the Firestone recall. Automobiles and travel tires are governed by different bodies according to the representive from Goodyear.
Now all we have to worry about are 6 Michelins on our 34' MH--(:-)

Goodyear will adjust the old type Marathon, Load Range "D", ST 225 R75/15. The old tire does not have a circled "S" after the word radial on the sidewall. The new tire does. In many cases they will replace the old tire at no cost, or maybe a small fee for mounting an balancing, it depends on tire wear. If you have the old type ST 225 R75/15, Load Range "D", call Goodyear @ 800-321-2136. They will direct you to your local dealer. They replaced one tire for me and five for a buddy of mine, no questions ask. It cost me nothing and my buddy paid $40.00. Goodyear advised me that the ST 225 R75/15 Load Range D was the only tire that was affected.

Tis true, tis true...it was for the Load Range D's, but I had 2 load range C's blow up on me. So I lied, called Firestone Customer Service, told them I had D's, he said that's odd, that trailer is listed as having C's OEM. He assigned me a claim number, sent me to my local dealer. Dealer said, those ain't D's, they're C's, and C's aren't covered under the replacement campaign. I said, well. . .they outta be, dam things blew up didn't they? He offered to replace my C's for $20 each. I said sure, cept gimme D's. Juries still out, only did two trips on them last season. Save your blown carcass, they want them back for a replacement. My problem tires had 8/32nd's on them.
Cheers, Steve J.
