As of 12/27/01 we are not able to recieve our home base programs while traveling outside New England.

The new spot beam satallite activated by Direct TV directs the programing into the local area only so once again we have lost more services which we pay for from direct tv.

Hope this will help any one with the same problem

I will be looking into Dish network when we return home this spring

There was an article in the MV mag about the offering of a "go anywhere" fee for the motor home..Have you checked with Direct Tv...Mine seems to work all the places I go...Call them, they seemed to be good folks..(should be for the price we are paying) Good Luck] 99 Adventurer Cherokee Toad

I was told that Dish Network bought out Direct and will be upgrading the system to the same as Dish over the next few months. You may want to check this out to find out how much is really true. I was getting Dish Network installed when I was told that but not by the salesman.

The sale of Dish has not yet been approved. If the sale goes through, and probably will, it will probably take years to switch over to the same equipment. Most dealers think it will be Dish who will have to switch to Direct TV. Who knows!!

Regarding the local channels. I was told that once you get approximately 250 miles out of your local market, you will lose those stations. You can elect to receive up to two local markets so if you are a snowbird and what to get the Chicago market in the summer and Tampa market in the winter you can do so. Also, you can send in a form called a Mobile Vehicle Affidavit which will allow you to receive the east and west coast stations. The form requires you send a copy of your RV registration. Also, you can send in a form called Mobile Vehicle Declaration of Intent - Multiple Receivers and get multiple reception in your RV. My form has up to 5 receivers. You have to send in your receiver serial number and access card numbers with the form. You can get the forms off the Direct TV site.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I don't think it would take them years to combine. The fact is that they already share one satellite. That is the one in the 110 position. Some local channels are still on that sat AND on the second 101 sat.

The option for RV'ers is to receive the national feeds while travelling. I do believe there is an extra cost involved but I'm not sure. I have never called them to ask.

Good luck.

On Dish Network, one network package (either West Coast or East Coast) is $4.99 per month; both network packages are $7.99 per month. I imagine the pricing is similar with DirecTV. In order to get these feeds, you need to sign a Declaration that states that the satellite dish to be used is permanently attached to an RV and will not be used to receive satellite programming at any fixed dwelling. You must also send a copy of your current state registration for the RV.

Regarding losing your local channels.

We recently travelled 700 miles from home base with Dish 500. We DID NOT lose our locals for we watched the snow storm that we missed by being in Fla.

Have not encountered any problems with Dish while travelling. We are happy with our decision to with Dish.

If I'm reading my bill right, the distant network feed (east and West Coast) cost me $5.76 from Direct TV.

I have DirecTV and when they added this spot beam system they also added a bunch more local channels. I used to only get ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX. Now I have four other local channels.
I spoke with DirecTV just recently and inquired about getting the East and West coast feed. The operator told me I could add them and they would work on all my receivers. I have a total of three now. I keep them all in the house and move one to the RV when I'm going out in it.
I'd like to get the East coast feed just so I can watch shows three hours early. It may be worth the extra $5.

Currently have dish500 with kingdome and switch for both the satellites, works great. Have network out of New York for $4.99 and local (birmingham, al) for another $4.99. When traveling have no problems getting both. With Dish they have a package for Motor Homes, that for $20.00 per year, you do not have to hook reciever up to phone line for pay per view. Also do not nned declaration for network chanels since you are on the road.
Happy Viewing!!
