We have a 1992 Vogue Prima Vista, 37'. We are the second owners, very low milage and usage of this coach. We have noticed that when hooked to shore water, our fresh water tank slowly fills, finally running out the fill valve on the side of the coach! It takes about 3 days to fill the 100 gallon tank. According to our books and manuals, the ONLY way to fill the fresh water tank is through the gravity fill in the side with the hose. I cannot fine a valve anywhere for converting to fill as is often the case in newer homes. Any thoughts or suggestions as to why this is slowly filling??

If you are sure you dont have a fill valve then your problem may be water is getting to tank thru your water pump.Is there a way you can block your pump off to check? suction line side.

Are you sure there is not a switch inside that allows you to fill the tank while hooked up to water? We have one on our coach. We flip the switch, and the tank fills in about 15 minutes. When the tank is full, it automatically shuts the tank fill valve. Obviously there is a relay valve somewhere close to the water tank, but since we have had no problems, I haven't bothered looking for it. My point is, if you have this type of set-up, the valve could be leaking. The motorized valve wouldn't necessarily be in a convenient/handy place. Most coaches have some way of filling the water tank while hooked up to water, and yours could very well have a motorized/relay type setup.

The "shore water", the outlet from the water pump (used when you use water from the tank) and the main water line to the RV are connected to a T fitting. It is often close to the water pump.

When you connect to "shore water", it puts pressure on the pump outlet. There is a check valve in the pump to prevent flow back to the tank. That check valve is most likely your problem.

Do you use a pressure regulator on the water hose that you connect to "shore water"? The check valves may be rated as low as 125 psi, and I've seen campground/city water pressures higher than that. You can get pressure regulators from almost any RV supply, including WalMart. It should be connected to the faucet, and your hose connected to it so your hose is protected, too. And don't forget and leave it on the faucet...

I also use a charcoal filter to filter water from sources I am not familiar with. There can be pieces of minerals in the water that could end up stuck in the check valve. (Think of the water that comes out after the fire department flushes hydrants... or the hard chunks that you find in the faucet aerator screens.) You can get a filter with hose fittings at most RV supply stores and WalMart. They don't rate high for water purification, but they do stop the big chunks.

If it is a "chunk" in the check valve, it might flush out if you open several faucets and turn on the water pump - the high flow rate might get it. Two chances - slim and none, but it's cheap.

You can probably get a "kit" to replace the check valve, or the pump part of the water pump - avoiding the cost of a whole new pump.

PS - looking at a couple of posts that came up while I was typing... You could add a manual shut off valve (gate valve) between the pump and the T. You'd have to remember to open it if you wanted to use the water from the tank, and close it when using shore water. Put in this location, it would keep the pressure from getting to the pump.

I may have miss-understood on how you are trying to fill your holding tank. If you are trying to fill through the gravity hose, you might have a blocked hose. If it is filling up through your shore water hookup and then overflowing, I think the other post have hit the nail on the head

You may have a venting (air) problem.
Try opening a couple of faucets when
filling. That would vent the air and
allow faster filling. Keep watch for
water coming out of the faucets.
