Getting ready to start grilling so I made up some of my favorite BBQ Sauce and thought I‘d share it with ya‘ll. I got this recipe from a cook book called Chuck Wagon Cooking from Marlboro Country. It was published in 1981
Black Jack Barbeque Sauce
Ingredients
1 cup strong black coffee
1 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 cup catsup
½ cup cider vinegar
½ cup brown sugar
3 T chili power
2 t salt
2 cups chopped onions
¼ cup minced hot chili peppers ( Instead I use 3 Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce.)
6 cloves garlic minced
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer 25 minutes. Strain or puree in a blend or food processor. Refrigerate between uses. Makes 5 cups.
That sounds like a good one. I'll try it this summer.
This is a favorite of ours; a bit more complicated than your recipe. It makes a lot and keeps well in the fridge for weeks and weeks.
Bourbon Barbecue Sauce
1 TB oil
2 bunches green onions, chopped
2 cups chopped white onion
8 large cloves of garlic, minced fine
2 cups (packed) brown sugar
1 cup catsup
1 cup tomato paste
1 cup Dijon mustard
1 cup water
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup apple or orange juice
1 large dried ancho chile, stemmed, seeded, and cut up fine (I use scissors)
1 TB ground cumin
1 1/2 cups bourbon (but I have used beer and it was excellent)
In a heavy large pot over medium-low heat, saute the onions gently in the oil until translucent. Add the garlic and simmer 15 minutes (do not burn!). Add all the other ingredients and simmer til thick, stirring now and then; about 1 hour or more. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, if you think it needs it.
