Has anyone else seen the top of the verticle support pole come off?? This is the part that has a hole where the prseeure beam from the camper meets the front of the awning.

How do you repair this. Jayco could have made this a little stronger don't you think. Any ideas?

Thanks

Happened to me too. By the end of our second outing they were all off. I plan to do as Gonzo did.

After 4 years of that Jayco awning, I just got so sick of dealing with it and all of the the poles. So for Mother's day, I got a Carefree of Colorado Campout Awning and it is so much easier to deal with. I really love the ease of it. Good luck, been there, done that.

The same thing happened to my tips. Jayco offered to send new tips but then I got to thinking that the reason they broke was the stress the tip gets when putting up the awning and simply replacing the tips would lead to more breaking. Here is the fix I use. No more breaking. Setup is quick/easy,even for one person.

-Parts Needed:
3 PVC T connectors
3 PVC End Caps
3 1 inch or so bolts with multiple nuts
3 3 inch bolts with wing nuts
Pipe Dope

Step 1
To fit the end cap over the "T" I had to dremmel out some of the inside of the cap.

Next drill a hole in the center of the cap for the shorter bolts. Adjust how far the bolt sticks out by adding nuts to the inside. Leave enough of the bolt sticking out to catch the hole in the awning but not too much so not to make it difficult to compress the pole against the PU when setting up.

Step 2
Drill out the indents on top of the ground support poles that hold the black piece that the tips go through. The inserts will slide right out.

Step 3
Drill holes in the vertical portion of the "T" that line up with the holes on the ground support poles that you drilled in step two. Make sure that the holes are far enough down on the "T" so that the top of the ground support pole does not prevent the other pole from going through the horizontal portion of the "T".

Step 4
Dope the end cap onto onto the horizontal end of the "T".

Step 5

If any of your tips are still unbroken you will need to remove them.

Setup
Slide the "T" onto the pole that goes between the PU and the awning and setup as normal. This will be easier because you won't have to wrestle with the ground support pole.

Once the first pole is set slide the ground support pole into the "T" and secure with the bold and wing nut.

I hope this is clear enough. I probably ought to take a picture of it someday. Real easy to do and setup of the awning is a breeze.
